Definitions
- the invention relates to a packaging tray, made from a deep-drawn plastic film, with a base, side walls and a sealing edge formed around the upper side of the side walls, onto which a sealing film can be placed and welded to the sealing edge, according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
- Such packaging trays are widely known, for example on the WO 2011/120715 A1 is referenced. They are used in particular to package perishable foods such as meat or ready-to-eat meals so that they can be offered to consumers in supermarkets, among other places.
- the material or raw material of the plastic film is matched to the material or raw material of the sealing film, ideally both are based on the same raw material or raw materials that can be easily sealed with one another, so that Application of pressure and / or heat a good connection and seal is achieved.
- the sealing edge becomes contaminated during the filling process. for example through escaping meat juice or components of the filled ready meal. Such contamination on the sealing edge subsequently prevents the reliable welding of the sealing edge to the sealing film placed on it in this area, so that the sealing of the packaged foodstuff is not guaranteed.
- the sealing edge is a contact surface provided for supporting the sealing film with a profile in the form of projections each forming part of the contact surface and depressions running between adjacent projections and interrupting the contact surface, with the depressions each defining a receiving volume.
- the depressions are spatially limited and are delimited by transverse ridges, as a result of which they only provide a limited capacity for liquids.
- the object of the invention is therefore to propose a packaging tray of the type mentioned at the outset which, while still having a simple structure, is less sensitive to the inevitable contamination of the sealing edge and nevertheless ensures reliable welding to the sealing film.
- the sealing edge of the packaging tray according to the invention has a width of about 4 to 6 mm, with about 10 to 30 depressions, preferably about 18 to 20, in particular 19 such depressions being arranged over the width of the sealing edge, which run linearly continuously over the entire extent of the sealing edge (13).
- the holding volume defined by the indentations absorb any contaminants adhering to the sealing edge and away from the contact surface, while the adjacently arranged projections, which each form part of the contact surface, protrude beyond the impurities contained in the depressions and ensure reliable welding of the sealing film placed on the ribs in the area of the contact surface.
- a heated sealing or welding bar usually presses on the sealing foil in the area of the contact surface and displaces the impurities underneath, standing on the projections and pressing them into the depressions.
- the design of the sealing edge with the profiling provided according to the invention can be done by appropriate shaping in the deep-drawing tool for producing the packaging tray from the plastic film provided for this purpose without an additional work step during the deep-drawing process in the context of the formation of the packaging tray according to the invention.
- the packaging tray according to the invention can be produced with a comparable outlay to a packaging tray according to the prior art.
- the projections can be designed, for example, as ribs, nubs, triangles and other geometric shapes.
- the indentations are formed in the form of parallel, circumferential grooves on the sealing edge, between which a rib runs.
- Such grooves are characterized in a manner known per se by being designed as a fine groove in the contact surface of the sealing edge; they represent a linear indentation with a rounded or flat base in a regular shape. Accordingly, the adjacent ribs also have a regular shape.
- the indentations are expanded towards the contact surface when viewed in cross section, for example at an angle of approximately 60°.
- the depressions viewed in cross section, have a depth of about 0.1 to 0.4 mm and a maximum width of 0.25 up to about 0.5 mm, in particular with a depth of 0.2 mm and a width of about 0.29 mm in the region of the largest opening in the contact surface.
- the plastic film and the sealing film are formed on the basis of polyethylene terephthalate, for example on the basis of clear, single-layer (mono) films.
- Such packaging trays are made, for example, from a plastic film with a thickness of 300 to 800 ⁇ m, the sealing film having a thickness of approximately 20 to 80 ⁇ m.
- a packaging tray 1 which, in a manner known per se, has a base 10 and continuous side walls 11, 12 which are arranged circumferentially around the base 10 and together define an upwardly open receiving space in which, for example, food can be received and packaged .
- these run into a peripheral sealing edge 13, which extends essentially horizontally and parallel to the bottom 10 figure 2 indicated sealing film 2 placed to close the receiving space and can be connected along the sealing edge 13 with this by welding.
- the receiving space within the packaging tray 1, together with the food or other packaged goods contained therein, is thus hermetically sealed from the environment.
- Such a packaging tray 1 can be produced, for example, from a single-layer (mono) plastic film based on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) with a thickness of 300 to 800 ⁇ m by deep-drawing in a suitable deep-drawing tool.
- PET polyethylene terephthalate
- the plastic film used can be clear and therefore transparent or colored.
- the sealing film 2 is also made from a compatible raw material, preferably the same raw material, for example PET, with typical thicknesses of the sealing film used being in the range between 20 and 80 ⁇ m.
- the sealing edge 13 becomes contaminated when the foodstuff to be packaged is introduced into the receiving space and before it is welded to the sealing film 2, since liquid drips on the sealing edge 13 in some areas, for example again and again problems when welding the sealing film 2, since in those areas where the sealing edge 13 is contaminated with liquid, it does not sufficiently weld to the sealing edge 13 and thus the hermetic seal of the packaged goods in the receiving space is not guaranteed.
- the sealing edge 13 of the packaging tray 1 shown is provided with a profiling in more detail from the figure 2 is evident.
- the profiling of the sealing edge 13 is formed by a sequence of adjacent projections 133 designed as ribs, between which a depression 134 runs. Such an arrangement can easily be produced by appropriate modification of the deep-drawing tool used in the area in which the sealing edge 13 is formed.
- the sealing edge 13 has a plurality of such parallel depressions and ribs 134 and ribs 133 in an alternating sequence that run parallel to one another and are arranged at increasing distances from one another in relation to the side wall 12 shown here.
- the sealing edge 13 has a contact surface in the area of its upper side intended for supporting the sealing foil, which is interrupted by the indentations 134, while the highest points of the surface between the Ribs 133 running in depressions 134 each form part of the contact surface and are in contact with the sealing film 2 and are also welded to it.
- the depressions 134 form a receiving volume for any impurities on the sealing edge 13.
- the ribs 133 and depressions 134 can in principle have any cross-sectional shape, but with a view to making production as easy as possible in the deep-drawing process figure 2 apparent acute-angled configuration is preferred, in which the individual depressions 134 viewed in cross-section widen towards the contact surface, for example with an opening angle of about 60 °.
- the indentations 134 are formed in the manner of parallel, circumferential grooves on the sealing edge 13, between which a rib 133 runs.
- about 10-30 depressions 134 are preferably provided, each of which has a depth of 0.1 to 0.4 mm and a maximum width of about 0.25 to 0.5 mm when viewed in cross section.
- a rounding radius can be provided, which is 0.05 mm, for example.
- the maximum width of the ribs running between the indentations 134 can be approximately 0.3 mm, for example.
Description
The invention relates to a packaging tray, made from a deep-drawn plastic film, with a base, side walls and a sealing edge formed around the upper side of the side walls, onto which a sealing film can be placed and welded to the sealing edge, according to the preamble of patent claim 1.
When used as food packaging, it is customary to provide such packaging trays with a peripheral sealing edge on the upper side, on which, after the packaging tray has been filled with the food to be packaged, a sealing film is placed and welded or sealed to the sealing edge, so that the food in the packaging tray is hermetically sealed is enclosed and protected from environmental influences.
In order to ensure reliable and easy-to-manufacture welding of the sealing film to the sealing edge, the material or raw material of the plastic film is matched to the material or raw material of the sealing film, ideally both are based on the same raw material or raw materials that can be easily sealed with one another, so that Application of pressure and / or heat a good connection and seal is achieved.
In practice, however, when the packaging tray is filled with the food to be packaged, particularly at high packaging speeds, it is unavoidable that the sealing edge becomes contaminated during the filling process. for example through escaping meat juice or components of the filled ready meal. Such contamination on the sealing edge subsequently prevents the reliable welding of the sealing edge to the sealing film placed on it in this area, so that the sealing of the packaged foodstuff is not guaranteed.
The object of the invention is therefore to propose a packaging tray of the type mentioned at the outset which, while still having a simple structure, is less sensitive to the inevitable contamination of the sealing edge and nevertheless ensures reliable welding to the sealing film.
To solve the problem, the design of a packaging tray according to the features of patent claim 1 is proposed according to the invention.
Advantageous refinements and developments of the invention are the subject matter of the dependent claims.
The proposal according to the invention provides that the sealing edge of the packaging tray according to the invention has a width of about 4 to 6 mm, with about 10 to 30 depressions, preferably about 18 to 20, in particular 19 such depressions being arranged over the width of the sealing edge, which run linearly continuously over the entire extent of the sealing edge (13).
It has been shown in practice that the holding volume defined by the indentations absorb any contaminants adhering to the sealing edge and away from the contact surface, while the adjacently arranged projections, which each form part of the contact surface, protrude beyond the impurities contained in the depressions and ensure reliable welding of the sealing film placed on the ribs in the area of the contact surface. This process is supported by the fact that after the sealing foil has been placed on it, a heated sealing or welding bar usually presses on the sealing foil in the area of the contact surface and displaces the impurities underneath, standing on the projections and pressing them into the depressions.
The design of the sealing edge with the profiling provided according to the invention can be done by appropriate shaping in the deep-drawing tool for producing the packaging tray from the plastic film provided for this purpose without an additional work step during the deep-drawing process in the context of the formation of the packaging tray according to the invention. In this respect, the packaging tray according to the invention can be produced with a comparable outlay to a packaging tray according to the prior art.
The projections can be designed, for example, as ribs, nubs, triangles and other geometric shapes.
According to a proposal of the invention, the indentations are formed in the form of parallel, circumferential grooves on the sealing edge, between which a rib runs. Such grooves are characterized in a manner known per se by being designed as a fine groove in the contact surface of the sealing edge; they represent a linear indentation with a rounded or flat base in a regular shape. Accordingly, the adjacent ribs also have a regular shape.
According to a further proposal of the invention, the indentations are expanded towards the contact surface when viewed in cross section, for example at an angle of approximately 60°.
According to a further proposal of the invention, the depressions, viewed in cross section, have a depth of about 0.1 to 0.4 mm and a maximum width of 0.25 up to about 0.5 mm, in particular with a depth of 0.2 mm and a width of about 0.29 mm in the region of the largest opening in the contact surface.
Furthermore, it can be provided that the plastic film and the sealing film are formed on the basis of polyethylene terephthalate, for example on the basis of clear, single-layer (mono) films. Such packaging trays are made, for example, from a plastic film with a thickness of 300 to 800 μm, the sealing film having a thickness of approximately 20 to 80 μm.
However, those skilled in the art will recognize that the invention is not limited to this raw material selection. Other plastic films and sealing films not based on PET can also be used.

Such a packaging tray 1 can be produced, for example, from a single-layer (mono) plastic film based on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) with a thickness of 300 to 800 μm by deep-drawing in a suitable deep-drawing tool. The plastic film used can be clear and therefore transparent or colored. In the interest of good weldability, the sealing film 2 is also made from a compatible raw material, preferably the same raw material, for example PET, with typical thicknesses of the sealing film used being in the range between 20 and 80 μm.
Although it is undesirable in practice, it often happens that the sealing
The profiling of the sealing

Furthermore, based on the sealing foil 2, which is also shown and lies flat on the sealing
It has been shown that any contaminants on the sealing

In this case, the
