Dans les pièces d'horlogerie comportant une soupape, notamment les montres mécaniques de plongée, la soupape est généralement agencée de manière à pouvoir être vissée, sur ou dans un tube fileté respectivement extérieurement ou intérieurement et coaxial à la soupape, entre une première position, dans laquelle la soupape est fermée, et une deuxième position dans laquelle la soupape est ouverte. Cet agencement classique présente certains inconvénients. Premièrement, il est difficile de savoir pour un utilisateur si la soupape est dans sa position fermée ou dans sa position ouverte, ce qui peut engendrer une erreur d'appréciation et s'avérer dangereux. Ensuite, il est difficile de sécuriser la position fermée. De plus, le tube fileté présente un certain encombrement qui conduit en particulier à une carrure relativement haute.
