Description

  • The invention relates to a refrigerated sales cabinet.
  • In conventional refrigerated sales cabinets the refrigerated goods to be presented to the customers are supported by a plurality of shelves. Relocating the shelves, for example changing the vertical position of one or more of the shelves, is often difficult and cumbersome with conventional solutions. Furthermore, the depth of the available refrigerated sales space is sometimes compromised by shelf configurations designed for an easier adjustment of the vertical shelf position.
  • From the WO 2006/120097 A1 a container for forming within a refrigerating device an interior space as known that can be accessed via a door opening of the refrigerating device. The container comprises a plurality of blanks forming a plurality of walls, the walls delimiting an interior space and including a first side wall formed of at least one blank and a rear wall formed of at least one blank; a cooled goods support base on which cooled goods received within the interior space are supported; at least one support rail, the support rail having locations thereon at which the cooled goods support base can be adjustably secured to the support rail such that the height of the cooled goods support within the interior space is adjustably settable; and a joint between a blank forming the first side wall and a blank forming the rear wall, the joint being at least partly concealed behind the support rail relative to a view into the refrigerating device through the door opening.
  • EP 2 859 815 A2 shows a refrigerated merchandising case, comprising a refrigerated product area; a rear panel; the rear panel comprising a roller channel and a plurality of support apertures; and a plurality of shelves. The plurality of shelves comprise a roller and a plurality of attachment prongs such that the plurality of shelves may maneuver along the rear panel via the roller within roller channel and attach via the plurality of attachment prongs and the plurality of support apertures.
  • US 2016 290 712 A1 shows also a shelving system for refrigerated cabinet which comprises shelf support rails integrated in the rear wall of the cabinet.
  • Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide an improved refrigerated sales cabinet wherein the vertical position of the shelves can be easily adjusted to the desired goods presentation, and wherein the available depth of the refrigerated sales space is increased in comparison to configurations where the upright shelf support rails lie in front of the surface of the rear wall. In addition, an improved method for adjusting the vertical position of at least one shelf in a refrigerated sales cabinet and a method for facilitated addition of at least one shelf is provided.
  • The invention is defined by independent claims 1 and 11.
  • A refrigerated sales cabinet according to the invention comprises a cabinet body comprising a bottom portion and a rear wall defining a goods presentation space; and at least two vertical shelf support rails integrated into the rear wall such that a front face of the vertical shelf support rails lies within or behind the plane of the front surface of the rear wall. The at least two vertical shelf support rails comprise an interior receiving space for receiving a respective guiding element of a shelf support element, and the interior receiving space is located behind the plane of the front surface of the rear wall. The vertical shelf support rails have guiding trenches which allow moving respective shelf support elements in the vertical direction. A number of recesses are provided in the front face of the shelf support rail beside the vertical guiding trench, and they are configured to receive respective projections of a shelf support element in order to latch such shelf support element at different vertical positions.
  • The refrigerated sales cabinet according to exemplary embodiments of the invention is of the front access type and may be equipped with doors.
  • Provided that the at least two vertical shelf support rails are integrated into the rear wall such that a front face of the vertical rack support rail lies within or behind the plane of the front surface of the rear wall, the depth of the refrigerated sales space and therefore the available goods presentation space for storing and presenting refrigerated goods on the shelves is increased in comparison to configurations where the upright shelf support rails lie in front of the surface of the rear wall.
  • Configuring the vertical shelf support rails with vertical guiding trenches and a number of recesses in the front face of the shelf support rail, allows for a quick and easy adjustment of the vertical position of each of the shelves. When changing the vertical position of a shelf, the front end of the shelf is lifted such that the projections of the shelf support elements are removed from the respective recesses and the entire shelf is tilted. Then, while in the tilted position, the entire shelf may be moved vertically to a desired new position guided by the guiding elements of the shelf support elements. Finally, the front end of the shelf is lowered again and the projections engage with the respective recesses such that the shelf is reliably latched in its new vertical position.
  • The rear end of a shelf is spaced apart from the plane of the rear wall by a small gap of particularly only a few millimetres in order to allow the shelf to be lifted and, consequently, to adjust its vertical position. The gap is kept as small as possible in order not to lose space for storing and displaying products on the shelf.
  • While relocating the shelf including the shelf supporting elements, the guiding elements of the shelf support elements remain in the respective interior receiving spaces of the vertical shelf support rails, and thus it is avoided that the shelf support elements drop out of the vertical shelf support rails. In this way, the shelves may be relocated without the need of removing the shelf or the shelf support elements. This makes it much easier, for example for supermarket staff or rack jobbers, to relocate the shelves on their own without additional help and without additional working steps.
  • Furthermore, it is avoided that several parts have to be handled at the same time and suspending brackets have to be adjusted individually and symmetrically at the same height, which also reduces the time needed for relocating the shelves distinctly.
  • Semi-vertical cabinets have either no roof portion or a roof portion which is shorter than the bottom portion.
  • The cabinet body can also have a roof portion. In this case, the goods presentation space is defined by the bottom portion, the rear wall, and the roof portion.
  • According to the invention, the at least two vertical shelf support rails extend from a lower end position at or adjacent to the bottom portion to an upper end position at or adjacent to the roof portion of the refrigerated sales cabinet allowing movement of the respective shelf support element over a substantial part of the height of the goods presentation space.
  • With these features, the shelf support elements, and thus the shelves, may be moved over a substantial part of the height of the goods presentation space.
  • There are no difficulties which might result from a separation of the shelf support rails into different vertical segments. Particularly, it is not necessary to take out the shelf support elements and the shelf when relocating them over a greater distance, for example from a high to a low position within the refrigerated sales space or vice versa.
  • According to a further embodiment, the cabinet body further comprises left and right side walls, limiting the goods presentation space in lateral directions.
  • According to further embodiments, the leftmost vertical shelf support rail is adjacent to the left side wall; and the rightmost vertical shelf support rail is adjacent to the right side wall. Thus, the full width of the cabinet can be used to display products.
  • According to a further embodiment, at least one pair of vertical shelf support rails is provided. Particularly, the number of pairs of vertical shelf support rails corresponds to the number of shelves to be provided side by side in the refrigerated sales cabinet.
  • According to a further embodiment, the rear wall comprises at least one vertical cover plate extending between respective adjacent vertical shelf support rails, such that a front face of the vertical shelf support rails lies in or behind the plane of the front surface of the vertical cover plate.
  • The front surfaces of such vertical cover plates together with the front faces of the vertical shelf support rails form a continuous rear plane limiting the refrigerated sales space to the rear.
  • According to a further embodiment, the vertical shelf support rails comprise a left rail wall, a right rail wall, a rear rail wall and a front rail wall, the rails defining an interior receiving space configured to receive one or more guiding elements of a shelf support element therein which allows for reliable movement of such guiding elements, and reliably prevents them from dropping out of the shelf support rails.
  • According to a further embodiment, the front rail wall joins with the front end of one of the left and right rail walls, and/or the vertical guiding trench is formed between one of the left and right rail walls and the vertical front rail wall. Such vertical shelf support rails are reliable and easy to manufacture.
  • According to a further embodiment, the vertical shelf support rails are formed by two angled profiles connected to each other, the first angled profile forming the rear rail wall and one of the side rail walls and the second angled profile forming the other one of the side rail walls and the front rail wall.
  • According to the invention, the vertical guiding trench is provided with at least one of an upper and/or a lower insertion portion at an upper and/or lower end portion of the vertical shelf support rail, for inserting a shelf support guiding element. At least one of the upper and/or the lower insertion portions at the upper and/or lower end portion of the vertical guiding trench can be formed by a recess of the front rail wall.
  • Such upper and/or lower insertion portions facilitate the insertion of one or more shelf support elements of respective shelves into the vertical shelf support rails. Likewise, shelf support elements and respective shelves can easily be taken out of the vertical shelf support rails, if so desired. The width and the length of the respective recesses in the front wall of the upper and/or lower insertion portions have to correspond to the respective dimensions of the guiding element, particularly the roller or castor of the shelf support element.
  • According to a further embodiment the recesses to receive latching projections are provided in the front rail wall and arranged equidistantly over the length of the shelf support rail, particularly between the upper and lower insertion portions. This embodiment allows for an individual positioning of the shelves over the entire length of the shelf support rail according to the desired goods presentation. The vertical position of the shelves can be adjusted individually over almost the entire length of the refrigerated sales space between the upper and lower insertion portions, and particularly in steps which are defined by the distances between adjacent recesses.
  • According to a further embodiment, the refrigerated sales cabinet further comprises at least one shelf with a left shelf support element and with a right shelf support element. The left and right shelf support elements can be rigidly fixed, for example screwed or bolted, to the left and right shelf support elements. Such shelves with left and right shelf support elements allow, together with the respective vertical shelf support rails, for an easy insertion and removal, and for an easy adjustment to the desired individual vertical position. Once the latching projections are engaged with the respective recesses of the vertical shelf support rail, the shelf support elements and hence the shelves are reliably fastened.
  • According to a further embodiment, the left and right shelf support elements have the same shape or can be symmetrical. This allows for a cheaper manufacture of the shelf support elements.
  • According to a further embodiment, the left and right shelf support elements respectively include a rear anchoring portion comprising a guiding element, particularly a roller or castor, for insertion into the interior receiving space of a respective vertical shelf support rail, and a lower rear support bracket comprising at least one projection projecting to the rear and configured to engage with a respective recess of a vertical shelf support rail. This embodiment allows for a compact shape of the shelf support elements and ensures a reliable fastening of the shelf support elements together with the shelf at the desired vertical position. It also allows for a quick and easy relocation of the shelf support elements together with the shelf to different vertical positions.
  • According to a further embodiment, the left and right shelf support elements of at least one shelf are fastened to a respective pair of vertical shelf support rails such that their respective guiding elements are inserted into the respective interior receiving spaces of the vertical shelf support rails and such that the rear projections engage with respective recesses of the vertical shelf support rail. In this configuration, the guiding element forms the support of a lever with which the weight of the shelf and of the products displayed on the shelf press the lower rear support bracket on the front rail wall of the vertical shelf support rail and, consequently, the rear projections remain fastened into the recesses of the vertical shelf support rail.
  • A method for fastening a shelf within a goods presentation space of a refrigerated sales cabinet, according to exemplary embodiments of the invention, comprises the steps of: providing a pair of vertical shelf support rails integrated into a rear wall of the refrigerated sales cabinet such that a front face of the vertical shelf support rails lies in or behind the plane of the front surface of the rear wall; inserting left and right shelf support elements of a shelf into the pair of vertical shelf support rails by placing the guiding elements, particularly the rollers or castors, into the interior receiving spaces of the left and right shelf support elements through insertion portions formed by a respective recess of the front rail wall of the respective vertical guiding trench at an upper and/or a lower end portion of the vertical shelf support rail, respectively; lifting the front end of the shelf, such that the plane of the shelf is inclined with respect to a horizontal plane and such that projections of the lower rear support brackets of the left and right shelf support elements are positioned in front of the front face of the vertical shelf support rails; moving the shelf into the desired vertical position; and lowering the front end of the shelf, such that the plane of the shelf lies within a horizontal plane and such that the projections of the lower rear support brackets of the left and right shelf support elements engage with respective recesses provided in the front face of the vertical shelf support rails.
  • With this method, a new shelf can be added to a refrigerated sales cabinet quickly and easily, and it can be positioned at the desired vertical position within the goods presentation space.
  • A method for adjusting the vertical position of a shelf within a goods presentation space of a refrigerated sales cabinet, according to exemplary embodiments of the invention, comprises the steps of providing a pair of vertical shelf support rails integrated into a rear wall of the refrigerated sales cabinet such that a front face of the vertical shelf support rails lies in or behind the plane of the front surface of the rear wall; providing a shelf with left and right shelf support elements, the left and right shelf support elements comprising lower rear support brackets with projections configured to engage with respective recesses of the vertical shelf support rails; lifting the front end of the shelf, such that the plane of the shelf is inclined with respect to a horizontal plane and such that the projections of the lower rear support brackets of the left and right shelf support elements are positioned in front of the front face of the vertical shelf support rails; moving the shelf into the desired vertical position; and lowering the front end of the shelf, such that the plane of the shelf lies within a horizontal plane and such that the projections of the lower rear support brackets of the left and right shelf support elements engage with respective recesses provided in the front face of the vertical shelf support rails.
  • With this method, a shelf within the goods presentation space of a refrigerated sales cabinet can be relocated to a new desired vertical position quickly and easily.
  • The advantages and embodiments as described with respect to the refrigerated sales cabinet also apply for the methods for fastening a shelf within a goods presentation space of a refrigerated sales cabinet and for a method for adjusting the vertical position of a shelf within a goods presentation space of a refrigerated sales cabinet.

    • Fig. 1 shows a perspective front view of a refrigerated sales cabinet according to an exemplary embodiment of the invention;
    • Fig. 2 shows a perspective enlarged view of a left part of a shelf, a left shelf support element, the corresponding part of the rear wall and the left vertical shelf support rail of a respective pair of vertical shelf support rails;
    • Fig. 3 shows a perspective view of a left rear portion of the leftmost shelf with its left shelf support element and a sectional view of the corresponding portion of the rear wall and the corresponding left shelf support rail, taken along a horizontal plane in Fig. 1 directly above the plane of the upper surface of the leftmost shelf; and
    • Fig. 4 shows a plan view of a left rear portion of the leftmost shelf with its left shelf support element and a sectional view of the corresponding portion of the rear wall and the corresponding left shelf support rail, taken along a horizontal plane in Fig. 1 directly above the plane of the upper surface of the leftmost shelf.
  • Fig. 1 shows a perspective front view of a refrigerated sales cabinet 2 according to an exemplary embodiment of the invention.
  • The sales cabinet 2 comprises a cabinet body comprising left and right side walls (optional and not shown), a rear wall 8, a bottom portion 4 and a roof portion 6 defining a goods presentation space 10 therein. While the refrigerated sales cabinet 2 of Fig. 1 is shown as a vertical multi-deck refrigerated sales cabinet with a roof portion 6 having approximately the same dimensions viewed from top as the bottom portion 4, it is well understood that other embodiments include for instance a semi-vertical refrigerated sales cabinet (not shown) comprising a roof portion 6 smaller than the bottom portion 4 or even without any roof portion. While the refrigerated sales cabinet can comprise left and right side walls, long refrigerated sales aisles can comprise in the middle one or more refrigerated sales cabinets next to each other without side walls. The leftmost and rightmost refrigerated sales cabinets of such long refrigerated sales aisle can only have leftmost and rightmost side walls, respectively. While the refrigerated sales cabinet 2 is shown as a door-less refrigerated sales cabinet 2 allowing for unobstructed access to the refrigerated sales space from the front, it is well understood that other embodiments include a refrigerated sales cabinet comprising a door frame and sliding or pivotable doors arranged within a door frame at the front portion of the refrigerated sales cabinet such that the goods within the goods presentation space 10 are accessible via opening one or more doors.
  • Within the goods presentation space 10 there are arranged a number of shelves 16 with respective shelf support elements 14 arranged at their left and right edge portions. The shelves 16 are fastened with respect to vertical shelf support rails 12 which are integrated into the rear wall 8 of the refrigerated sales cabinet 2 at individual vertical positions. In the exemplary, non-limiting embodiment of Fig. 1 a total of 12 shelves are provided within the goods presentation space 10. The four uppermost shelves 16 are positioned side by side in one upper row, four middle shelves are positioned side by side in a middle row, and the four lowermost shelves are positioned side by side in a lower row. It is to be understood that refrigerated goods to be presented within the refrigerated sales cabinet are supported on each of the shelves 16 and on the bottom deck of the bottom portion 4 of the refrigerated sales cabinet 2.
  • The refrigerated sales cabinet 2 further comprises at least one heat exchanger (not shown), particularly an evaporator (not shown), and can comprise further components of a vapor compression cycle (not shown), like an expansion device connected upstream of the at least one evaporator and appropriate refrigerant conduits. In a so-called plug-in refrigerated sales cabinet the refrigerated sales cabinet 2 comprises all relevant components of a vapor compression cycle, including a compressor, a condenser, an expansion device and an evaporator.
  • The vertical shelf support rails 12 are arranged in pairs of respective left and right vertical shelf support rails. The shelves 16 are fastened to the vertical shelf support rails 12 by rear projections of the shelf support elements 14 engaging with respective recesses provided in the front face of the shelf support rails 12, as will be explained in further detail below.
  • As can be seen in Figures 3 and 4, each of the vertical shelf support rails 12 comprises an interior receiving space 36 for receiving a respective guiding element, particularly a roller or a castor 42 of a respective shelf support element 14, and a vertical guiding trench 18 extending along the front face 26 of the vertical shelf support rail 12. Such vertical guiding trench 18 can extend over the entire length of the respective vertical shelf support rail 12, particularly from a lower position adjacent the bottom portion 4 to an upper end position adjacent the roof portion 6. With such vertical guiding trenches 18, it is possible to move the respective shelf support element 14, and thus the entire shelf 16, over a substantial part of the height of the goods presentation space 10. At or close to the upper and lower end portions of the vertical shelf support rails 12, upper and lower insertion portions 13 for inserting a respective shelf support guiding element are provided. These upper and lower insertion portions 13 are formed by broadened recesses or cut-outs of the front rail wall.
  • Furthermore, the vertical shelf support rails 12 are integrated into the rear wall 8 of the refrigerated sales cabinet 2 such that the front faces of the vertical shelf support rails 12 lie in or behind the plane of the front face of the rear wall 8. Therefore, the depth of the refrigerated sales space extends from the front portion to a common plane including the rear wall 8 and eventually the front faces of the vertical shelf support rail 12, which increases the volume of the available refrigerated sales space in comparison to configurations where the upright shelf support rails lie in front of the surface of the rear wall, and keeps gaps between the rear ends of the shelves 16 and the rear wall 8 at a minimum.
  • Fig. 2 shows a perspective enlarged view of a left part of a shelf 16, a left shelf support element 14, the corresponding part of the rear wall 8 and the left vertical shelf support rail 12 of a respective pair of vertical shelf support rails.
  • It can well be seen that the front face of the vertical shelf support rail 12 comprises a continuous vertical guiding trench 18, a front rear wall 34 and a number of recesses 20 of identical shape arranged equidistantly over the length of the vertical shelf support rail 12.
  • It can further be seen that the shelf support element 14 comprises a lower rear support bracket 22 extending down from a lower rear portion of the shelf support element 14. Two rear projections 24 are formed at the rear face of the lower rear support bracket 22. These projections are configured to engage with respective recesses 20 to securely latch the shelf support element 14 to the vertical shelf support rail 12.
  • It can further well be seen that the vertical shelf support rail 12 is integrated into the rear wall 8 and that the front rear wall 34 lies in the plane of the front surface of the rear wall 8.
  • Fig. 3 shows a perspective view of a left rear portion of the leftmost shelf 16 with its left shelf support element 14 and a sectional view of the corresponding portion of the rear wall 8 and the corresponding left shelf support rail 12, taken along a horizontal plane in Fig. 1 directly above the plane of the upper surface of the leftmost shelf 16.
  • A vertical cover plate extends between the leftmost vertical shelf support rail 12 and the right vertical shelf support rail (not shown) of the left pair of support rails 12. The vertical cover plates are affixed to the pair of support rails 12 or to the cabinet body portion in an appropriate manner. The front faces of the vertical cover plates lie in or in front of the plane of the front face of the vertical shelf support rail 12.
  • Furthermore, it can be seen that the vertical shelf support rail 12 comprises a left rail wall 28, a right rail wall 30, a rear rail wall 32 and a front rail wall 34. The rail walls define the interior receiving space 36 of the vertical shelf support rail 12. The front rail wall 34 is connected with the right rail wall 30. The vertical guiding trench 18 is formed between the left end of the front rail wall 34 and the left rail wall 28. The recesses 20 are arranged in a vertical row within the front rail wall 34 parallel to the vertical guiding trench 18.
  • In the exemplary, non-limiting embodiment, the vertical shelf support rail 12 is formed by two angled profiles which are connected to each other. The first angled profile forms the rear rail wall 32 and the left rail wall 28. The second angled profile forms the right rail wall 30 and the front rail wall 34. The second angled profile has an attachment portion which is bent to the right from the rear end of the right rail wall 30. With this attachment portion, the second angled profile is attached to an attachment portion of the first angled profile, which extends to the right from the rear rail wall 32.
  • Fig. 4 shows a plan view of a left rear portion of the leftmost shelf 16 with its left shelf support element 14 and a sectional view of the corresponding portion of the rear wall 8 and the corresponding left shelf support rail 12, taken along a horizontal plane in Fig. 1 directly above the plane of the upper surface of the left outermost shelf 16.
  • As shown in Fig. 4, the shelf support element 14 comprises a rear anchoring portion 40 above the lower rear support bracket 22 which extends through the vertical guiding trench 18 and into the interior receiving space 36.
  • Extending to the right from the rear anchoring portion 40, and also situated within the interior receiving space 36, a guiding element, which may be a roller or castor 42, is attached rotatably to the rear anchoring portion 40. The size of the roller 42 corresponds to the size of the interior receiving space 36 such that the roller 42 can roll on the rear surface of the front rail wall 34 and/or on the front surface of the rear rail wall 32. The roller 42 together with the interior receiving space 36 allows for a vertical movement of the shelf support element 14, and thus the entire shelf 16, once the front end of the shelf 16 is lifted, as will be explained in further detail below.
  • In Figs. 3 and 4, it can well be seen that a small gap is formed between the front face of the vertical cover plate located between the left vertical shelf support rail 12 and the right vertical shelf support rail (not shown) of the outermost left pair of vertical shelf support rails 12 and the rear edge of the shelf 16. With such small gap, the shelf can be inclined. In Fig. 4, also the uppermost rear projection 24 can be seen.
  • A method for fastening a shelf 16 within the goods presentation space 10 of the refrigerated sales cabinet 2 is described below.
  • As an example, a shelf 16 with left and right shelf support elements 14 is to be added to the leftmost pair of vertical shelf support rails 12. First, the left and right shelf support elements 14 of the shelf 16 are moved with their rear anchoring portions 40 and their rollers 42 through the upper insertion portions 13 at the upper end portions of the vertical shelf support rails 12. Then, the front end of the shelf is lifted such that the rear projections of the shelf support elements 24 are removed from the respective recesses 20 and the entire shelf 16 is tilted. Then, while in the tilted position, the entire shelf 16 may be moved vertically to a desired new position. Finally, the front end of the shelf 16 is lowered again and the rear projections 24 engage with the respective recesses 20 such that the shelf 16 is reliably latched in its new vertical position.
  • While the invention has been described with reference to exemplary embodiments, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes may be made and equivalents may be substituted for elements thereof without departing from the scope of the invention. In addition many modifications may be made to adopt a particular situation or material to the teachings of the invention without departing from the essential scope thereof.
