However, in the event the object is inserted farther, the object will reach the second circumferential region 2414, where the object stands a greater chance it will be blocked by the less porous second circumferential region 2414. Blocking the object in this manner will mitigate the chances that the object will pass fully through the expandable structure 2400. This protects any tissue that may be adjacent the second circumferential region 2414 of the expandable structure 2400, such as a back (far) wall of the esophagus.

  • the greater population density of the filaments 2404 and/or the wider widths of the filaments 2404 in the second circumferential region 2414 are accommodated by allowing the collapsed filaments 2404 to stack on each other. This permits the expandable structure 2400 to collapse to a size that is small enough to fit into the working channel.
  • Various other shapes may be used for the expandable structure 2400 in order to provide greater access to an object in the first circumferential region 2412 and less in the second circumferential region 2414.

Abstract

L'invention concerne un appareil (100) comprenant : une structure expansible (140) pouvant être façonnée dans des formes tridimensionnelles, comprenant une plage de diamètres (D) et de longueurs correspondantes (L); un élément mobile (106) déplaçable entre une pluralité de positions (124, 126) produiant la pluralité de diamètres; et une liaison mécanique (110) disposée entre l'élément mobile et la structure expansible. La structure expansible est dimensionnée pour s'adapter à l'intérieur d'un canal de travail (204) d'un endoscope (202), lorsque la structure expansible est aplatie. La liaison mécanique est conçue pour déplacer la structure expansible aplatie à travers le canal de travail jusqu'à un emplacement sélectionné (400) au-delà d'une extrémité distale (404) de l'endoscope et pour augmenter et réduire un diamètre de la structure expansible en réponse à des changements de position de l'élément mobile lorsque la structure expansible se trouve au niveau de l'emplacement sélectionné.
