Definitions

  • Bonded abrasive wheels according to the present disclosure can be made by a molding process. During molding, first and second organic binder precursors, which may be liquid or powdered, or a combination of liquid and powder, is mixed with abrasive particles. In some embodiments, a liquid medium (either curable organic resin or a solvent) is first applied to the abrasive particles to wet their outer surface, and then the wetted abrasive particles are mixed with a powdered organic binder precursor. Bonded abrasive wheels according to the present disclosure may be made, for example, by compression molding, injection molding, and/or transfer molding.
  • the abrasive particles can be graded to a nominal screened grade using U.S.A. Standard Test Sieves conforming to ASTM E-11 "Standard Specification for Wire Cloth and Sieves for Testing Purposes".
  • ASTM E-11 prescribes the requirements for the design and construction of testing sieves using a medium of woven wire cloth mounted in a frame for the classification of materials according to a designated particle size.
  • a typical designation may be represented as -18+20 meaning that the shaped ceramic abrasive particles pass through a test sieve meeting ASTM E-11 specifications for the number 18 sieve and are retained on a test sieve meeting ASTM E-11 specifications for the number 20 sieve.
  • Bonded abrasive wheels can be made according to any suitable method.
  • a first reinforcing material is placed into a wheel-shaped mold centered over a circular magnet placed just below the mold. In this configuration the magnetic field lines within the disc shaped mold cavity are perpendicular to the plane of the disc cavity. Crushed abrasive particles are mixed with a liquid binder precursor and then a powdered binder precursor, and placed in the mold onto the scrim thereby forming a substantially uniform layer onto which a second reinforcing material is placed.
  • Vitreous bond abrasive wheels are made in a similar manner, but the firing temperature is typically from 500 to 1100°C instead of the lower temperatures used for organic binder precursors.

Claims (15)

  1. Eine gebondete Schleifscheibe, die magnetisierbare Schleifteilchen umfasst, die in einem ersten organischen Bindemittel gehalten werden, wobei die gebondete Schleifscheibe ein Mittelteil benachbart zu einer zentralen Nabe aufweist, wobei die gebondete Schleifscheibe einen Außenumfang und eine Drehachse aufweist, die sich durch die zentrale Nabe erstreckt, wobei ein Großteil der magnetisierbaren Schleifteilchen im Wesentlichen parallel zur Drehachse ist.
  2. Die gebondete Schleifscheibe nach Anspruch 1, wobei die gebondete Schleifscheibe umfasst:
    eine primäre Schleifschicht, die die magnetisierbaren Schleifteilchen umfasst, die im ersten organischen Bindemittel gehalten werden;
    eine sekundäre Schleifschicht, die nichtmagnetisierbare Schleifteilchen umfasst, die in einem zweiten organischen Bindemittel gehalten werden; und
    ein erstes Verstärkungsmaterial, das zwischen der primären Schleifschicht und der sekundären Schleifschicht angeordnet ist und diese berührt.
  3. Die gebondete Schleifscheibe nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, wobei die magnetisierbaren Schleifteilchen Keramikkörper umfassen, die jeweils eine darauf angeordnete entsprechende magnetisierbare Schicht aufweisen.
  4. Die gebondete Schleifscheibe nach Anspruch 3, wobei die Keramikkörper Alpha-Aluminiumoxid umfassen.
  5. Die gebondete Schleifscheibe nach Anspruch 3, wobei die Keramikkörper Keramikstäbe umfassen.
  6. Die gebondete Schleifscheibe nach Anspruch 3, wobei die Keramikkörper Keramikplättchen umfassen.
  7. Die gebondete Schleifscheibe nach Anspruch 6, wobei die Keramikplättchen keramische dreieckige Pyramidenstümpfe umfassen.
  8. Die gebondete Schleifscheibe nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 7, wobei die magnetisierbare Schicht im Wesentlichen aus einem Metall oder einer Metalllegierung besteht.
  9. Die gebondete Schleifscheibe nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 7, wobei die magnetisierbare Schicht magnetisierbare Teilchen umfasst, die in einem Bindemittel gehalten werden.
  10. Ein Verfahren zum Herstellen einer gebondeten Schleifscheibe, wobei das Verfahren die folgenden Schritte umfasst:
    a) Anordnen einer Schicht einer ersten härtbaren Zusammensetzung in einer Form, die einen kreisförmigen Formhohlraum mit einem vertieften Mittelteil angrenzend an eine zentrale Nabe aufweist, wobei der kreisförmige Formhohlraum einen Außenumfang und eine Drehachse aufweist, die sich durch die zentrale Nabe erstreckt, und wobei die erste härtbare Zusammensetzung Füllstoffschleifteilchen umfasst, die in einem ersten organischen Bindemittelvorläufer dispergiert sind;
    b) Anordnen eines ersten porösen Verstärkungsmaterials auf der Schicht der ersten härtbaren Zusammensetzung;
    c) Anordnen einer Schicht einer zweiten härtbaren Zusammensetzung auf dem ersten porösen Verstärkungsmaterial und der ersten härtbaren Zusammensetzung, wobei die zweite härtbare Zusammensetzung magnetisierbare Schleifteilchen umfasst, die in einem zweiten organischen Bindemittelvorläufer dispergiert sind; und
    d) Anlegen eines Magnetfelds an die zweite härtbare Zusammensetzung, sodass ein Großteil der magnetisierbaren Schleifteilchen im Wesentlichen parallel zur Drehachse ist; und
    e) mindestens partielles Härten der zweiten härtbaren Zusammensetzung, um die gebondete Schleifscheibe bereitzustellen.
  11. Das Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 10, wobei Schritt b) ferner mechanisches Rühren mindestens der Schicht der zweiten härtbaren Zusammensetzung umfasst.
  12. Das Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 10, wobei die magnetisierbaren Schleifteilchen Keramikkörper umfassen, die jeweils eine darauf angeordnete entsprechende magnetisierbare Schicht aufweisen.
  13. Das Verfahren nach Anspruch 12, wobei die magnetisierbare Schicht im Wesentlichen aus einem Metall oder einer Metalllegierung besteht.
  14. Das Verfahren nach Anspruch 12, wobei die magnetisierbare Schicht magnetisierbare Teilchen umfasst, die in einem Bindemittel gehalten werden.
  15. Das Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 12 bis 14, wobei die Keramikkörper Alpha-Aluminiumoxid umfassen.
