Description

TITLE
A SLAT FOR ROLLER SHUTTERS AND ROLLER SHUTTER OBTAINED THEREWITH
DESCRIPTION
Field of the invention
The present invention relates to the field of closure members, and more in detail it relates to an improved slat structure for roller shutters obtained with bent metal sheet, of the type presenting longitudinal spiral-shaped edges .
Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for making such a slat for roller shutters.
Description of the prior art
Roller shutters are known designed to provide a protective barrier in case of bad weather and to protect from thefts or damages. Roller shutters are often used to protect windows of shops.
A common type of roller shutters is described for example in GB1144559A, which uses bars that are coupled to each other by connecting rods, in order to form a grille. Various different types of such grille shutters exist, for example with bars with sinusoidal shape, instead of straight, with the advantage of having connecting rods much shorter than with straight bars. The grille roller shutters have the advantage to provide protection and in the meantime to render visible what behind the shutter, for example the shop window visible in the closing time. In fact, the ratio between empty and full zones of the grille is very high, ensuring a limitation of visibility that is acceptable.
However, this type of grille roller shutters with rods and connecting rods requires a laborious and expensive production process, owing to the heavy sheet material and the difficulty of automatization of the assembling steps of the various components. In fact, the method for making such grille roller shutters several manual steps that are complex and expensive owing to the combination of many elements with each other, as well as operations of adjusting and testing.
In CH126742A an example is given of a shutter structurally very different from the above having slats in bent sheet with longitudinal edges having the shape of a spiral, with identical direction of rotation of the spiral. The longitudinal sheet portion between the spiral-shaped edges has a convex shape and the rotatable connection is obtained by the spiral-shaped edges allowing the slats to rotate and the shutter to be wound about a drum for lifting/ lowering operations. Such slats are mounted to each other in a sliding way with respect to each other combining the upper edge of a slat to the lower edge of a following slat, and their mutual matching is easily obtained owing to the longitudinal introduction of a spiral-shaped edge on another one.
However, this kind of shutters, when lowered, create a visual barrier to the shop windows.
In DE29616191U1 or in DE9006991U1 an example is given of slats with apertures, in order to allow a transparence to the view through the roller shutters.
However, making apertures on slats of the above described kind is complex since it has to be carried out by dedicated cutting machines after bending the slat spiral edges .
In WO2013089523A2 an example is given of shutter with slats having an even sheet with small holes and bent longitudinal edges folded with spiral-shaped edges rather open and capable of being coupled forming a hinge.
Since the edges with the spirals are rather the drawback arises that in case of wind or in case of angles winding the spiral very narrow winding angles the slats can detaching between each other.
Other types of roller shutters are disclosed in US1579839 or GB200187 with similar problems. Summary of the invention
It is therefore a feature of the present invention to provide an improved slat structure for roller shutters that can be obtained maintaining low the production cost.
It is another feature of the present invention to provide an improved structure of slat for roller shutters that assists remarkably the production with respect to the solutions currently known.
It is also a feature of the present invention to provide an improved slat structure for roller shutters that has the possibility to make lightening apertures capable of conferring transparency and allowing to see what is present behind the shutter.
It is then a feature of the present invention to provide an improved slat structure for roller shutters that has apertures extended both longitudinally and transversally, in order to have completely a ratio between empty and slid portions similar to the grid-like roller shutters having meshes made by means of hinged bars and bars .
It is still a feature of the present invention to provide an improved slat structure for roller shutters that can be made starting metal even sheets with easy manipulation and low cost, and easy bending after intermediate works, for example by making apertures. It is a further feature of the present invention to provide an improved slat structure, with longitudinal spiral-shaped edges, for roller shutters that does not cause risks of disengaging the slats.
It is a particular feature of the present invention to provide a roller shutter that is obtained by slats having the above described advantages.
These and other objects are achieved by a structure, according to the invention, of improved slat for roller shutters, comprising:
- an even elongated sheet having a longitudinal direction and a transversal direction;
- two spiral having a same rotation direction and associated with two longitudinal edges opposite to the sheet, the spiral having two respective longitudinal axes,
- characterized in that the plane elongated sheet and the longitudinal axes lay on a same plane.
This way, with respect to the prior art for example described in CH126742A, the shutter allows a higher lightness, being lower the necessary amount of metal material .
The above described structure of slat does not prevent the slats to be mounted to each other in a sliding way combining the longitudinal edge to the longitudinal edge of the other and their mutual sliding connection, obtained owing to the shape of the spirals of the slats, without jeopardizing the stability of the shutter. In fact, since the spirals of the slats have the respective longitudinal axes arranged on the same plane of an even sheet, there is the advantage of causing the spirals to start at a transversal end of the sheet, and to have both spirals external to the sheet, contrarily to what is disclosed in WO2013089523A2, thus obtaining, with the invention, at least one spiral that covers more than 360°. The mutual engagement obtainable with the structure of slat according to the invention, then, does not limit the winding angle or opening angle the spirals, and is not subject to risks of disengaging the slats.
In other words, by the invention a slat and a relative shutter can be obtained, with even slats that allow then an easy workability the even part can be arranged on cutting machines, and a good capacity of rotation of a slat with respect to each other is achieved.
In particular, it is possible, starting from an even sheet, to execute operations, such as for example cutting, through conventional machines, and then bending.
This way, with respect to DE29616191U1 or DE9006991U1, the absence of convex profile owing to the presence of an even sheet allows, in an exemplary embodiment of the invention, to provide apertures, such as for example triangular, rectangular or made with multiple holes, simplifying remarkably the production process.
Advantageously, the plurality of apertures of the sheet are defined by boundary portions obtained by the remainder of the sheet after having cut the apertures.
Preferably, the spiral have an end portion bent at an angle, arranged as end stop for the rotation between two adjacent slats.
Preferably, the apertures are selected from the group consisting of: apertures completely open and apertures obtained by a plurality of holes made within the boundary portions. This way, roller shutters are obtained that can have in various different exemplary embodiments, rectangular shape, with a longer side edge parallel to the longitudinal direction or with a longer side edge parallel to the transversal direction; triangular shape, defined by oblique alternated boundary portions; sinusoidal shape, defined by sinusoidal boundary portions, etc.
Preferably, the apertures have a predetermined position along the longitudinal direction, and slats are provided having each respective apertures at a predetermined longitudinal position, so that a roller shutter formed with a plurality of the slats can form a set of apertures that define a script, a drawing, a trademark, etc. It is possible, alternatively, that a same script, drawing, trademark are made on a same slat.
According to another aspect of the invention, a method is provided for making an even elongated sheet having a longitudinal direction and a transversal direction, the sheet having a first longitudinal edge and a second longitudinal edge, wherein the first longitudinal edge forms a first spiral and the second longitudinal edge forms a second spiral, wherein the first and second spirals have a same rotation direction, wherein the first and second spirals have a first and a second longitudinal axis, and the sheet and the longitudinal axes lay on a same plane, the following steps being provided of prearranging an even plate, making apertures on the plate, forming spiral bends at the longitudinal edges of the sheet according to a same direction of rotation, in order to form the spirals.

Detailed description of some exemplary embodiments
With reference to Fig. 1, according to the present invention, an improved slat for roller shutters 100 comprises an even sheet 10 with a longitudinal direction 90 and a transversal direction 40. Each sheet 10 has two spiral-shaped edges 50, 60 having a same rotation direction 70, 80 and a respective longitudinal axis 20, 30. Even sheet 10 substantially passes through axes 20 and 30 of spiral-shaped edges 50, 60. In particular, spiral 50, can be rotated second as 70 by an angle greater than 360°.
The slat according to the invention represents a substantial improvement with respect to the slats for roller shutters 101 shown in Fig. 2, obtained according to the prior art similarly to WO2013089523A2, and comprising an even sheet 11. Each slat 101 can be connected to adjacent slats by two spirals 51 and 61 obtained on both the longitudinal edges of the sheet 11. The two spirals 51 and 61 of the prior art are obtained by bending the sheet in a same rotation direction 71 and 81 parallel to longitudinal axis 91 and orthogonal to transversal axis 41. The two spirals 51 and 61 have respective longitudinal axes 21 and 31. The plane that contains the longitudinal axes 21 and 31 of the spirals 51 and 61 is not coplanar nor it is parallel to sheet 11. The solution of Fig. 2 forces then to obtain spirals 51 and 61 protruding all from one side with respect to the sheet 11. In particular, the spiral 51 cannot be rotated according to arrow 71 by an angle greater than 270°. In fact, the spiral 51, even if it extends starting from the transversal end of the sheet 11 returns towards sheet 11 in a direction parallel to transversal axis 41. Then, the two spirals 51 and 61 cannot form a very stable coupling, since spiral 51 cannot wind on itself any further .
Then the two spirals 50, 60 of the slat 100 according to the invention, can form a mutual matching with each other much steadier than the prior art.
In particular, the fact that the slats 100 have all the respective axes 20, 30, 40, 90 arranged on a same plane, coincident with that of even sheet 10, makes it possible to both spirals to extend starting from the transversal end of an even sheet 10, but not to fall within such transversal ends, as instead it occurs in the prior art of Fig . 2.
This allows also complete the spirals 50, 60 with a bent end at an angle 55, 65, arranged as end stop, and maximum stability of mounting and maintenance of the engagement in mounting step of the shutter.
A mounting step is shown in Fig. 3, where reference 200 is a portion of shutter consisting of two slats 100 connected to each other in a connection zone 210, by the two respective spirals 50, 60 that allow mutual engagement.
In Fig. 4 such a slat is shown on whose even sheet 11 a plurality of apertures 130 has been made, which confer transparence to the slat and at the same time lighten it substantially with respect to the slats with fully solid sheet. In particular, the apertures 130 are defined by boundary portions 135 that are wide enough to give mechanical strength to the slats, and in any case not too broad, in order to allow at the apertures 130 of being wide enough to provide maximum transparence and lightening.
With reference to Figs. 5, 6, 7 an example is described of a production step which assists the production process of the slats of the prior art. It provides starting from an even sheet 300 having a longitudinal direction 40 and a transversal direction 90. On said sheet 300 (Fig. 6), by a special cutting machine 110, for example by shears or by a press that produce a cutting force 120 on the sheet 300, or by means of other machines, such as a milling cutter or a laser or water cutting machine, the apertures 130 are made, for example of rectangular shape, spaced from each other by the boundary portions 135. After making each aperture, it is possible to displace stepwise the sheet 300 and the cutting machine 110, relatively each other in longitudinal direction. As finally shown in Fig. 7, the slat 100 according to the invention is obtained bending two spiral-shaped longitudinal edges 160, 170 on the sheet 300, according to a same rotation direction 140, 150, maintaining both spirals 50, 60 external to the central sheet portion 10. With reference to Figs. 8 to 13, examples are shown of roller shutters 400, 401, 402, 403, 404, 405 on which apertures are made, as defined in Figs. 5, 6, 7, with different geometry 131, 132, 133, 134, 135, 136. All the slats have the edges with the respective spirals 50, 60 coupled to each other as shown in Fig. 3.
The apertures can be arranged to be completely open or consisting of a plurality of holes made within the boundary portions.
In Figs. 8 and 9 the apertures have sinusoidal open shape, indicated as 131, or consist of a plurality of holes, indicated as 132, both defined by sinusoidal boundary portions 136.
In Figs. 12 and 13 the apertures have a triangular outline, with open shape, indicated as 134, or consisting of a plurality of holes, indicated as 132, both defined by triangular boundary portions 138, consisting of oblique alternated boundary portions.
With reference to Fig. 14, with the process according to the invention it is possible to provide customized slats and roller shutters.
