Description

  • The invention relates to an ironing board, comprising an ironing board stand and an ironing surface, which is fixed on the ironing board stand, and an iron tray, which is associated with the ironing surface, wherein the iron tray is movably supported relative to the ironing surface.
  • Such an ironing board is known from WO 2012/126043 A1 , for example, wherein the iron tray can be pushed under the ironing surface when the ironing board is folded up. In this case, it is advantageous that the ironing board has a lesser space requirement.
  • The known ironing boards as well as ironing boards with an iron tray fastened rigidly to the ironing surface suffer from the problem that the ironing surface cannot be fully utilised in the region of the iron tray. In this region it is impossible to wrap items of laundry around the ironing surface for ironing.
  • The object of the invention is to provide an ironing board wherein the ironing surface is fully utilisable for ironing.
  • This object is achieved with the features of claim 1. The dependent claims refer to advantageous embodiments.
  • To achieve the object of the invention, the iron tray is movably supported relative to the ironing surface, whereas it is possible to separate the iron tray from the ironing surface so as to result in a space between the iron tray and the ironing surface.
  • The space can be used to wrap items of laundry around the ironing surface also in the region of the iron tray, so that the entire area of the ironing surface including the edge in the region of the iron tray is available for ironing.
  • The iron tray can be displaceable relative to the ironing surface. By this means the iron tray can be placed variably relative to the ironing board. Its displaceability results in easy operation.
  • The iron tray is preferably connected to the ironing surface by means of at least one holding element. The holding element is preferably connected rigidly to the ironing board and the iron tray can be moved on the holding element in order to provide a space between the ironing board and the iron tray. Such a connection comprises a simple and inexpensive link between the iron tray and the ironing surface.
  • The holding element can be provided as a bracket. In a simple development the holding element is provided as a U-shaped metal bracket. Here, the iron tray is guided along the two mutually opposing legs of the bracket and is displaceably supported along the two legs. The portion of the bracket connecting the two legs provides a loss-proof storage of the iron tray. Additionally, the portion can serve as a supporting surface wherein the folded ironing board can be stood on the bracket and stored, so saving space. Thus, the holding element can form a stand element during the storage of the folded ironing board.
  • The holding element is preferably fixed to the underside of the ironing surface. Ease of manufacture is provided by fixing the holding element to the ironing board, the entire upper face of the ironing surface being available for ironing.
  • In an alternative embodiment the iron tray can be connected to the holding element so as to be displaceable as well as inclinable. By this means the space available for ironing is further enlarged.
  • Latching means can be assigned to the iron tray for fixing the iron tray relative to the holding element. The iron tray may therefore be provided with sleeves or the like, for example, a material with high friction being disposed in the holes of the sleeves, so preventing the iron tray from moving independently. In addition it is conceivable that the holding element is provided with indentations, for example in the form of a plurality of notches, into which portions of the iron tray can latch.
  • The ironing surface preferably has two longitudinal faces and at least one narrow face wherein the iron tray is assigned to the narrow face. This also results in a space-saving arrangement of the iron tray.
  • Some embodiments of the inventive ironing board are explained in more detail below by reference to the figures. These show, in each case schematically:
    • Fig. 1 an ironing board in the side view;
    • Fig. 2 an ironing board in the top view;
    • Fig. 3 in detail the ironing board in the region of the iron tray;
    • Fig. 4 in detail the ironing board with the iron tray inserted;
    • Fig. 5 in detail the ironing board with the iron tray extended.
  • The figures show an ironing board 1, comprising an ironing board stand 2 and an ironing surface 3 fixed to the ironing board stand 2. The ironing board stand 2 is provided as a scissors-type folding frame and enables the height of the ironing surface 3 to be varied. In addition, the ironing board stand 2 can be folded to save space so that the ironing board 1 can be stored on end.
  • The ironing surface 3 consists of a frame, which is covered with a flat material, in this case with an expanded metal. The upper face of the ironing surface 3 forms a cover which is stretched over the frame of the ironing surface 3. The ironing surface 3 has two longitudinal faces 8, 9 and a narrow face 10. The face opposing the narrow face 10 is trapezoidal in design. The iron tray 4 is assigned to the narrow face 10.
  • Both the ironing surface 3 and the ironing board stand 2 comprise a metallic material. The iron tray 4 consists of a heat-resistant plastic.
  • A cable holder 11 is assigned to the iron tray 4. The cable holder 11 is mounted on the iron tray 4 and foldable. The iron tray 4 is further assigned a socket 12. The socket 12 may be chosen specific to the country.
  • The iron tray 4 is connected to the ironing surface 3 via a holding element 6. The holding element 6 is provided here as a U-shaped bracket and consists of metallic material. The holding element 6 is fastened at the underside of the ironing surface 3.
  • The iron tray 4 is displaceably connected to the holding element 6, so that the iron tray 4 can be remote from the ironing surface 3 such that a space 5 is provided between the iron tray 4 and the ironing surface 3. The area of the ironing surface 3 utilisable for ironing is enlarged by means of the space 5.
  • The holding element 6 is provided so that the iron tray 4 is angled relative to the ironing surface 3. By this means the angle between the plane of the ironing surface 3 and the plane of the surface of the iron tray 4 is less than 180°.
  • Figure 1 shows the above-described ironing board 1 in the side view. In addition to the previously described elements, Figure 1 shows an additional latching means 13, making it possible to adjust the height of the ironing board stand 2 relative to the ironing surface 3.
  • Figure 2 shows the previously described ironing board 1 in the top view. Figure 2 additionally shows that the ironing board stand 2 has feet 14 by which means the ironing board 1 can be stood stably on a floor.
  • Figure 3 shows the region of the iron tray 4 of the ironing board 1 in detail. In this figure it is particularly clear to see that the holding element 6 is bent away relative to the ironing surface 3, so that the iron tray 4 is oriented at an angle to the ironing surface 3. Furthermore, latching means 7 arranged on the holding element 6 are visible which enable the iron tray 4 to be fixed at various locations on the holding element 6. The latching means 7 are provided in the form of indentations. As an alternative, the latching means 7 can also be provided in the form of elevations.
  • The holding element 6 is offset at the end facing away from the ironing surface 3. By means of the offset 15 the iron tray 4 is retained secure from loss on the holding element 6 on the one hand. Furthermore, the offset 15 enables the ironing board 1 to stand stably when folded.
  • Figure 4 shows the ironing board 1 in the region of the iron tray 4, once in the top view and once in the bottom view. In the embodiment according to Figure 4, the iron tray 4 is displaced towards the ironing surface 3 so that the ironing board 1 can be stored space-savingly and stood upright.
  • Figure 5 shows in detail the ironing board 1 in the region of the iron tray 4, once in the top view and once in the bottom view. In the embodiment according to Figure 5, the iron tray 4 is remote from the ironing surface 3, creating a space 5 between the ironing surface 3 and the iron tray 4, such that also the edge of the ironing surface 3 facing the space 5 is available for ironing. The iron tray 4 may be latched in the position on the holding element 6 as shown in Figure 5 and in that shown in Figure 4.
