Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to a laundry washer-dryer having a tub produced from plastic material.
- In laundry washer-dryers, washing and drying processes are realized by placing the laundry into a drum moving in the tub. The tub is produced from thermoplastic material such as polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP) due its high chemical resistance values and low costs. In the tub, especially the region around the hub wherein the shaft rotating the drum is borne is subjected to mechanical stress and risks of abrasion and cracking arise, therefore, the tub should be produced from materials with high mechanical strength such as fiber-reinforced plastic. All the regions of the tub are not subjected to the same amount of stress; however, due to the practice of plastic injection process, the whole or at least half of the tub should be produced from high strength, hence expensive, material, thus the material costs are increased.
- In the United States Patent Application No. US2011283746, a washing machine having a tub with a structurally strengthened rear wall is disclosed.
- In the European Patent Application No. EP2460924, a method for manufacturing a tub section for a washing machine is disclosed.
- The aim of the present invention is the realization of a laundry washer-dryer which comprises a tub with increased mechanical strength and decreased material costs.
- The laundry washer-dryer realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is explicated in the claims.
- The region around the hub bearing the drum shaft of the tub is the region of the tub which requires the highest mechanical strength, hence produced from a plastic material having higher mechanical strength than the plastic material used for producing the tub. The remaining regions (the edge portion of the rear wall, the front wall and the side wall) of the tub except for the said region surrounding the hub are produced from low cost plastic material. Thus, the need for producing the hole tub or the half thereof containing the rear wall from the high mechanical strength, hence expensive, plastic material is eliminated, thus providing cost advantage.
- In an embodiment of the present invention, the region of the tub rear wall around the hub is produced by adding agents which increase mechanical strength such as fiberglass, ceramic fiber, etc. to polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP) used for producing other regions of the tub.
- In an embodiment of the present invention, the region of the tub rear wall around the hub is produced from polyamide (PA) or polyimide (PI) with increased mechanical strength without requiring an additives different from polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP) used for producing other regions of the tub.
- The laundry washer-dryer realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
- Figure 1 – is the schematic view of a laundry washer-dryer.
- The elements illustrated in the figures are numbered as follows:
- 1 - Laundry washer-dryer
- 2 - Drum
- 3 - Shaft
- 4 - Front wall
- 5 - Side Wall
- 6 - Rear wall
- 7 - Hub
- 8 - Tub
- M: Motor
- B: Circular region
- The laundry washer-dryer (1) comprises a drum (2) that is rotated around the horizontal axis by a motor (M) and wherein the laundry is placed, a shaft (3) that transmits the movement received from the motor (M) to the drum (2), and a tub (8) wherein the drum (2) moves, that is produced from plastic (rigid thermoplastic) and that has a circular front wall (4) with the laundry loading opening arranged at the center thereof, a cylindrical side wall (5), a circular rear wall (6) and a hub (7) that is arranged at the rear wall (6) and where the shaft (3) is borne.
- The laundry washer-dryer (1) of the present invention comprises a tub (8) having the rear wall (6)
- that is at least partially produced from a plastic material with high mechanical strength and different chemical structure than the plastic material used for producing the front wall (4) or the side wall (5) or
- that is at least partially produced by adding agents increasing mechanical strength to the plastic material used for producing the front wall (4) or the side wall (5). - In the laundry washer-dryer (1), the front wall (4) and the side wall (5) of the tub (8) are produced from plastic material such as polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP). Additives decreasing costs such as calcium carbonate, talc, kaolin are added into the plastic raw material of the front wall (4) and the side wall (5). In the embodiment of the present invention, the rear wall (6) of the tub (8) where the hub (7) bearing the shaft (3) is arranged is at least partially produced from a plastic material with high mechanical strength, thus the mechanical strength of the rear wall (6) is increased, providing dimensional stability and rigidness of the region around the hub (7). Moreover, only a part of the rear wall (6) is produced from a material with high mechanical strength instead of the whole tub (8), thus the material costs are decreased.
- In an embodiment of the present invention, the circular region (B) of the rear wall (6) of the tub (8) surrounding the hub (7) and having a diameter smaller than the outer diameter of the rear wall (6) is produced from a plastic material with high mechanical strength.
- In this embodiment, the diameter of the circular region (B) of the tub (8) surrounding the hub (7) and produced from a plastic material with high mechanical strength is half the outer diameter of the rear wall (6).
- In another embodiment of the present invention, the circular region (B) of the tub (8) rear wall (6) surrounding the hub (7) is produced by adding fiberglass to polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP).
- In another embodiment of the present invention, the circular region (B) of the tub (8) rear wall (6) surrounding the hub (7) is produced by adding ceramic fiber to polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP).
- In another embodiment of the present invention, the circular region (B) of the tub (8) rear wall (6) surrounding the hub (7) is produced by adding asbestos fiber to polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP).
- In another embodiment of the present invention, the circular region (B) of the tub (8) rear wall (6) surrounding the hub (7) is produced by adding mica fragments to polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP).
- In another embodiment of the present invention, the circular region (B) of the tub (8) rear wall (6) surrounding the hub (7) is produced from polyamide (PA).
- In another embodiment of the present invention, the circular region (B) of the tub (8) rear wall (6) surrounding the hub (7) is produced from polyimide (PI).
- In another embodiment of the present invention, the circular region (B) of the tub (8) rear wall (6) surrounding the hub (7) is produced from polyacetal (also known as polyoxymethylene).
- The rear wall (6) of the tub (8) of the laundry washer-dryer (1) of the present invention, in particular the region of the rear wall (6) around the hub (7) bearing the shaft (3) is strengthened against mechanical stress. High mechanical strength, hence expensive, plastic materials is used only regionally at the rear wall (6) of the tub (8) while other regions of the tub (8) are produced from low-cost plastic material, thus providing cost advantage.
