Description
- The solution relates to a roof window arranged to be mounted in a roof with a sloping pitch of 0-15°, wherein the window comprises: a main supporting frame and a sash frame with a glazing unit, and an external screen enabling at least to drain rain water from the window onto the roofing fixed to the sash through its fitting part.
- There is known solution from patent
EP2242889B1 , disclosing a skylight comprising a main supporting frame and a sash frame with a glazing unit. The skylight is protected against rain water by means of a cupola made of plastic. The cupola is attached to the sash frame by means of special attaching elements. - Another solution is known from the
DE6920816U , disclosing an external screen of a skylight window mounted in a sloping roof. The window consists of a main supporting frame and a sash with a glazing unit. The screen comprises ventilation openings and is fixed in a movable manner with its one edge on a hinge to the main supporting frame, whereas the other edges of the screen rest freely on the roof around the skylight. - There is also know
US2120060 patent which disclose skylight with external, incline screen frame with pane, wherein said screen frame is placed on the skylight frame through its vertical metal walls. Said screen frame comprises ventilation openings and screening element as an protection against insects. - There is known roof window from
DE29916885U1 which comprises additional screen frame as a protection against weather conditions. Said screen frame is attached to the roof window frame by a screw through a sections which forms a socket for side walls of the screen frame. - The invention provides a roof window according to
claim 1 arranged to be mounted in a flat roof, with a sloping pitch of 0-15°. The roof window according to the solution can be built in two versions: as fixed window or as an openable window. - A fixed window comprises a main supporting frame and a sash frame with a glazing unit, which are permanently connected to each other. The fixed window can be also built as a single-frame construction, then, said frame is arranged to be a main supporting frame with a glazing unit.
- In another version, said flat - roof window is an openable window, which comprises a main supporting frame and a sash frame with a glazing unit. Said glazing unit comprises at least two integrated panes which are pressed against the sash frame using a glazing slat located on the perimeter of the sash frame. The glazing slat is attached to the sash frame by means of a socket-spline lock connection. The socket and the spline may be interchangeably located in the sash frame or in the glazing slat. The sash frame together with the glazing slat is mounted in the main supporting frame notch, such that each sash frame profiles comprises an overlapping arm, which in mounted state is located on the external surface of the respective supporting frame profile. In this embodiment, connection between the main supporting frame and the sash frame is movable and is executed by means of hinges enabling tilting of the sash frame in relation to the main supporting frame.
- Both the sash frame and the main supporting frame are made of chamber profiles.
- The external screen according to the solution is arranged to be mounted above said window and comprises profiles connected to each other to form a frame, in the perimeter of which at least one pane is mounted. Said pane, in installed state is in a position which is non-parallel to the glazing unit of the sash frame. The connection of the external screen frame profiles is performed using generally known methods enabling creation of a joint between two members, i.e. welding, if the profiles are made of e.g. aluminium, or thermoforming, or injection moulding if the profiles are made of plastic.
- External screen profiles comprises an embedding part and a fitting part which allow for mounting said external screen frame on the window. The pane of the external screen is mounted in its embedding part which is preferably in the form of a shelf, constituting a lowered dip of at least one arm of the screen. Between the outer pane and the embedding part is a linear weather seal and/or a connecting joint. Particularly, around the edge of the outer pane, a compound sealing the connection of the pane with the screen frame profiles is located. Additionally, a layer of a masking material is applied onto the fragment of the external screen pane which is in contact with the sealing.
- The non-parallel position of the external screen pane is performed by different dimensions of the fitting part of the external screen frame, which is higher at one window edge and lower at the opposite edge, forming an inclination over the window. Preferably the incline is at least 2° in relation to the horizontal plane, forming at the same time an angle against the sash frame glazing unit.
- The external screen is attached to the overlapping arm of the sash frame through the fitting part of the external screen frame profiles. Said attachement is realised by connection the overlapping arm of the sash frame directly with the the fitting part of the external screen with use of a fasteners or indirectly with use of an mounting bracket and riveting.
- The mounting bracket is with one of its arms fixed to the overlapping arm of the sash frame, while its other arm is preferably parallel to the external screen fitting part. The fitting part being coupled with the said arm of the mounting bracket by means of fasteners, such as screws or rivets.
- Additionally, the fitting part comprises a protrusion by means of which the screen frame is mounted on the overlapping arm of the sash frame. Preferably, the protrusion is inserted into the socket in the overlapping arm, introducing an extra fixing lock for the fitting part of the external screen.
- The space between the external screen and the glazing unit is sufficient to mount accessories in the form of e.g. a roller with blinding material, or the glazing with thickness greater than that of the basic unit.
- The blinding accessories can be fixed indirectly on the sash frame, at at least one side of the window by means of elements holding the blinding material roller. The blinding accessories are preferably mounted on the sash frame overlapping arm.
- The thicker glazing unit is fixed using a coupler. The coupler described in detail in application
is basically made of the same material as the main supporting frame and the window sash frame. The coupler is used to fix the glazing unit with thickness greater than that of the basic glazing unit which the standard version of the window is equipped with. The coupler is fixed to the overlapping arm of the sash frame and comprises a snap lock socket for mounting the glazing slat on it, in such a manner that the slat is located higher in relation to the glazing slat of the window with the basic glazing unit. It effects in creation of space for a new glazing unit with the said thickness greater than the "basic" unit. The protrusion of the glazing slat is inserted to the coupler socket for fixing it to the coupler. The position of the socket and the protrusion can be reversed, i.e. the socket may be located in the coupler and the protrusion in the sash frame.PL401875A1 - The presented solution preferably facilitates drainage of water from the window with the sloping pitch obstructing its natural runoff. It is performed owing to the screen, the pane of which is in a non-parallel position against the glazing unit thus forming a natural incline for rain water. Moreover, owing to the inclined structure of the external screen, a broader free space is formed between the window's glazing unit and the external screen, particularly at one side of the window, facilitating fixing of a roller shutter on the sash frame.

Fig. 3 shows a fragment of a cross-section of the window with the external screen having the fitting part with the protrusion and a direct coupling of the screen to the overlapping arm of the sash frame, having a socket for the protrusion of the external screen. - In the first embodiment, the window comprises the main supporting
frame 1 and thesash frame 2 with thebasic glazing unit 7a. Thesash frame 2 being embedded in the notch of the main supportingframe 1. Both, the sash frame and the main supporting frame are made of chamber profiles, and the sash frame comprises anarm 2a overlapping the external surface of the main supporting frame. The window according to this embodiment is mounted in a flat roof, which is why the window is additionally equipped with the external screen 3, increasing the incline above the window. The external screen is formed of profiles connected to each other to form a closed frame. Each profile of the external screen 3 comprises thefitting part 3a and the embeddingpart 3b, in which thepane 3c is mounted. Preferably, thescreen pane 3c is mounted on a gasket andsilicone 4a and around its edges there is aweather gasket 4b preventing water penetration under thepane 3c. Thefitting part 3a comprises different dimensions at the two opposite sides of the window, causing the variable size of this part at the other sides of the window. In the first embodiment, thefitting part 3a of the screen is fitted to the overlappingarm 2a by means of themounting bracket 5, one arm of which is inserted to the recess of the overlappingarm 2a while the other arm is parallel to thefitting part 3a of the external screen. The other arm of themounting bracket 5 as well as the fitting part are connected to each other by means of fasteners.Fig. 2 shows the window also equipped with theglazing slat 6a, which presses the glazing unit into the notch in the sash frame and has a roller withblinding material 8 fixed on thesash frame 2. - In the second embodiment shown in
Fig. 3 , the window differs from the window according to the first embodiment in that the external screen comprises aprotrusion 3d which is inserted to the socket 2b in the overlappingarm 2a of the sash frame, allowing to support the screen and protect it against being removed from the window. Thefitting part 3a is fixed directly to the sash frame by means of a fastener, e.g. a screw. The second embodiment of the window is presented with theglazing unit 7b of thesash 2 with increased thickness. The assembly of theglazing unit 7b with increased thickness is possible thanks to thecoupler 6b, which is fixed to the sash frame by means of a socket-spline coupling set. Theglazing slat 6a is connected to thecoupler 6b and theglazing unit 7b is fixed under the glazing slat.
Claims (10)
- A roof window comprising- a main supporting frame (1)- a sash frame (2) with a glazing unit (7a, 7b), wherein the sash frame (2) is mounted in a notch of the main supporting frame (1) and each profiles of the sash frame (2) comprises an arm (2a) overlapping the outer surface of the main supporting frame (1), and the window is intended to be installed in a flat roof with a sloping pitch of 0-15°, wherein said roof window further comprises an external screen (3) in a form of a screen frame which is built from profiles and in which at least one pane (3c) is embedded, wherein said pane (3c) is in position which is non-parallel in relation to the glazing unit (7a, 7b) of the sash frame (2), wherein the profiles of the external screen frame comprises an embedding part (3b) and a fitting part (3a), wherein said fitting part (3a) is higher at one edge of the window, whereas it is lower at its opposite edge thus forming an incline over the window, characterised in that the external screen (3) is fixed to the overlapping arm (2a) of the sash frame through the fitting part (3a) of the external screen frame profile..
- The roof window according to claim 1, characterised in that the pane (3c) of the external screen (3) is located in the embedding part (3b) of the external screen frame profile.
- The roof window according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that between the outer pane (3c) and the embedding part (3b), a linear sealing (4a) and/or a weather sealing (4b) is located.
- The roof window according to claim 1, characterised in that the fitting part (3a) of the external screen is directly fixed to sash frame (2) by means of rivets or fasteners.
- The roof window according to claim 1, characterised in that the fitting part (3a) of the external screen is indirectly fixed to the sash frame (2) by means of a mounting bracket (5), whereas one arm of the mounting bracket (5) is fixed to the overlapping arm (2a) of the sash frame (2), and a second arm of the mounting bracket (5), preferably parallel to the fitting part (3a) of the external screen, is connected with the fitting part (3a) by means of fasteners or rivets.
- The roof window according to claim 1, or 4, characterised in that the fitting part comprises a protrusion (3d) by means of which the external screen frame is mounted in a socket (2b) of the overlapping arm (2a) of the sash frame.
- The roof window according to one of the above claims, characterised in that between the external screen (3) and the glazing unit (7a, 7b) of the sash frame a roller with blinding material (8) is fixed to the overlapping arm (2a) of the sash frame.
- The roof window according to one of the above claims, characterised in that it comprises an coupler (6b) fixed to the sash frame (2), enabling to change position of the glazing slat of the window and to install the glazing unit (7b) with thickness greater than that of the window's basic glazing unit.
- The roof window according to claim 1 or 8, characterised in that the coupler (6b) is fixed to the overlapping arm of the sash frame and comprises a snap lock socket for the snap lock connection with the protrusion of the glazing slat (6a), whereas the position of the socket and the protrusion can be located interchangeably, and the socket can be located in the coupler and the protrusion in the sash frame.
- The roof window according to one of the above claims, characterised in that the external screen profiles are connected to each other to form a closed frame using known methods enabling to form a joint between two members.
