Description

HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCE WITH AN IMPROVED TOP COVER ASSEMBLING
  • The present invention relates to a household appliance, in particular to a laundry dryer, a laundry washer or a dishwasher. The present invention more particularly relates to the top cover of such a household appliance.
  • Household appliances such as laundry dryers, laundry washers and dishwashers are commonly known. Such household appliances generally have releasable top covers which cover at least part of their upper surfaces. The top cover is usually released, for instance, when the appliance must be serviced.
  • Figure 1 to 4 shows a laundry washer/dryer which is known from the prior art. This prior art household appliance (1’) comprises a top cover (2’) which covers the upper surface of the household appliance (1’), a front fixing means (3’) which immediately fixes the front section (4’) of the top cover (2’) to the upper front section (5’) of the household appliance (1’) and a rear fixing means (6’) which immediately fixes the rear section (7’) of the top cover (2’) to the upper rear section (8’). In this household appliance (1’), the rear fixing means (6’) comprises a screw connection whereas the front fixing means (3’) comprises an interlocking connection which becomes locked when the top cover (2’) is forwardly slid in the direction of the arrow B to its designated fixing position on the upper surface of the household appliance (1’). During the assembling, the top cover (2’) must be placed on the upper surface and forwardly slid to its designated fixing position until the interlocking connection becomes locked and then the screw connection must be tightened. For disassembling the top cover (2’), the steps must be performed in the reversed order.
  • A drawback of the prior art household appliance (1’) is that in case of production-related minor discrepancies, for instance, when the top cover (2’) is slightly larger than the main body, then the top cover (2’) is subjected to tensile and compressive forces as it is fixed to the household appliance (1’). In particular, the compressive forces emerge in the regions C and D which are respectively located at the front sections (4’, 5’) and the rear sections (7’, 8’). The compressive forces cause the top cover (2’) to bend upwards which results in the formation of a gap between the top cover (2’) and the side panels as shown through the letter E in Figure 4 and thus the quality of the household appliance (1’) degrades. In such occurrences, the consumer satisfaction easily decreases because of the inferior quality and the customer complaints increase.
  • An objective of the present invention is to provide a household appliance in particular a laundry dryer, a laundry washer or a dishwasher which overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks of the prior art in a cost effective way and which enables an improved assembling and disassembling of the top cover.
  • This objective has been achieved by the household appliance as defined in claim 1. Further achievements have been attained by the subject-matters respectively defined in the dependent claims.
  • The household appliance of the present invention comprises a left lateral fixing means and a right lateral fixing means. The left lateral fixing means is adapted for immediately fixing the left lateral section of the top cover to the upper left lateral section of the household appliance whereas the right lateral fixing means is adapted for immediately fixing the right lateral section of the top cover to the upper right lateral section of the household appliance. Each lateral fixing means is adapted for securing the corresponding lateral section of top cover at least against vertical upwards displacements when the top cover is fixed at its designated fixing position on the upper surface of the household appliance.
  • With the present invention, particularly by virtue of the left and right lateral fixing means, the top cover can be properly fixed even in case of minor production discrepancies. Thus, the risk of the occurrence of any gaps between the top cover and the upper lateral sections can be eliminated or reduced as much as possible. Thereby, the appearance and the robustness of the household appliance have been both improved. With the present invention the customer satisfaction can be increased.
  • In an embodiment, each lateral fixing means comprises two interlocking members which mutually engage when the top cover is forwardly slid to its designated fixing position.
  • In another embodiment, the interlocking members of the lateral fixing means are laterally centered with respect to the household appliance.
  • In another embodiment, the household appliance comprises a left lateral panel and a right lateral panel. In this embodiment, the interlocking members are respectively disposed onto the top cover and the lateral panels. In alternative versions of this embodiment, the interlocking members are either integrally formed with or separately attached to the top cover and the lateral panels.
  • In another embodiment, the household appliance comprises lateral reinforcement brackets for reinforcing the lateral panels. In a version of this embodiment, the interlocking members are alternatively disposed onto the top cover and the lateral reinforcement brackets respectively. In other alternative versions of this embodiment, the interlocking member are either integrally formed with or separately attached to the top cover and the lateral reinforcement brackets.
  • In other alternative embodiments, one of the interlocking members comprises either a slot or a claw. And the counterpart interlocking member respectively comprises either a claw or a slot.
  • In another embodiment, the rear fixing means comprises one or more than one screw connection.
  • In another embodiment, the front fixing means comprises one or more than one interlocking connection each including a slot and a claw.
  • Additional advantages of the household appliance according to the present invention will become more apparent with the detailed description of the embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
