Operating the pressurised fluid system (not illustrated) will enable displacement of piston 6 from its first rest position to its second ejection position, where the end of piston 6 will enter into contact with the back of pick 2 and ejects the latter from cutting element holder 1.

- Piston 6 then moves to the second ejection position and is introduced into passage 7, present on the second face 1 b of cutting element holder 1, in order to reach the back of pick 2. In that way, pick 2 can be ejected from cutting element holder 1.
- piston 6 After ejection of pick 2, piston 6 resets to its first rest position, and a new pick 2 can be placed on the first face 1 a of cutting element holder 1. The pick itself can reset the piston.
- the pressurised fluid system may be either one of a hydraulic system type or a pneumatic system type.
- Passage 7 located on the second face 1 b of cutting element holder 1, can be an opening, such as a simple hole.
