Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to a holder for securing a fan assembly which cools the condenser of a refrigeration appliance, in particular a domestic refrigerator.
- Fig. 1 shows the rear side of a conventional refrigeration appliance (3´), in particular a domestic refrigerator (3´). This conventional domestic refrigerator (3´) comprises a refrigeration compartment and a refrigeration circuit for refrigerating the refrigeration compartment. The refrigeration circuit includes an expansion valve or a capillary, an evaporator, a compressor, and a condenser (4´) which are serially connected to circulate a refrigerant. The conventional domestic refrigerator (3´) has a machine compartment (3a´) which accommodates an evaporator tray (8´) for collecting defrost water. As shown in Fig. 2 and 3, the evaporator tray (8´) supports the condenser (4´) and a fan assembly (2) for cooling the condenser (4´). The condenser (4´) has a refrigerant tube (5´) for conveying the refrigerant. The refrigerant tube (5´) is bent into a meander shape. The fan assembly (2´) includes a fan (6´) and a motor (7´) for rotating the fan (6´). In this conventional domestic refrigerator (3´), the evaporator tray (8´) has a holder (1´) for securing the fan assembly (2´). The holder (1´) is integrally provided with the evaporator tray (8´).
- A drawback of this conventional domestic refrigerator (3´) is that the space between the condenser (4´) and the fan assembly (2´) requires a large machine compartment (3a´), thus the utilizable volume of the conventional domestic refrigerator (3´) is correspondingly reduced.
- A further drawback of this conventional domestic refrigerator (3´) is that the fan assembly (2´) must be rotated at a relatively high speed to compensate for the loss in the cooling performance (2´) due to the large distance between the condenser (4´) and the fan assembly (2´), thus a noise level of the fan assembly (2´), is correspondingly increased.
- An objective of the present invention is to provide a holder for securing the fan assembly, and a refrigeration appliance having the same which overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks of the prior art in a cost effective way and which enables an improved assemblage and which has an improved usability.
- This objective has been achieved by the plug-type holder as defined in claim 1 and the refrigeration appliance as defined in claim 13. Further achievements have been attained by the subject-matters respectively defined in the dependent claims.
- The holder of the present invention is provided in form of a plug-type holder. The plug-type holder of the present invention comprises a body which is separately provided from the evaporator tray. The body includes a support base for mounting the fan assembly. The body further includes a plug for attaching the body directly to the refrigerant tube of the condenser. The plug has one or more than one projection. Each projection is formed on the support base and has two mutually averted lateral sides which respectively abut against one or more than one pair of mutually facing segments of the refrigerant tube of the condenser. The body further includes a retainer for fixing the plug to the refrigerant tube of the condenser.
- In an embodiment, each projection has a snap-fit portion, in particular a claw, a recess, or the like which resiliently snaps onto the refrigerant tube of the condenser. Thereby, the plug is detachably attached to the condenser. Hence, the body is safely retained on the condenser.
- In an alternative embodiment of the present invention, the refrigerant tube has a mounting bracket which has at least one screw hole. In this embodiment, the projections have no snap-fit portions but instead have counterpart screw holes respectively. The body is safely retained on the condenser by a common screw which is screwed both into the screw hole and the counterpart screw hole.
- In a version of this embodiment, the mounting bracket is welded to the refrigeration tube of the condenser.
- In another embodiment of the present invention, the body has an electrical cable retainer for retaining an electrical cable which supplies electric power to the fan assembly.
- In another embodiment of the present invention, the support base has a plane surface onto which the fan assembly, in particular the motor is mountable.
- In another embodiment of the present invention, each projection comprises at least one shoulder which abuts against the refrigeration tube. Thereby, a forward movement of the body is inhibited. Thus, the body can be safely installed to its designated position on the condenser.
- With the plug-type holder of present invention, the fan assembly can be directly secured to the condenser, in particular to the refrigerant tube of the condenser. Thus, the need for a relatively large-sized evaporator tray has been obviated, the size of the machine compartment has been reduced, and the utilizable volume of the refrigeration appliance has been increased. In addition, a proper cooling performance of the fan assembly has been attained at a comparatively lower rotational speed. Thus an overall energy efficiency of the refrigeration appliance has also been improved. In addition, due to the lower rotation speed of the fan assembly, a noise level has also been reduced. With the plug-type holder of present invention, the manufacturing costs both in material and labor have been reduced. The plug-type holder of present invention can be utilized in condensers having different outer dimensions. Thus, the plug-type holder has an improved usability and assemblage. With the present invention, a consumer satisfaction can be increased.
