Definitions

  • a heat pump laundry dryer i.e. a drier having a condensing unit, typically has a closed cycle drying process.
  • the heat pump used for drying the laundry is composed of the compressor that moves the refrigerant fluid and heat sinks named as evaporator and condenser.
  • the evaporator is composed of a refrigerant tube in serpentine form and fins arranged on the refrigerant tube.
  • the refrigerant that is delivered from the compressor to the condenser with increased pressure and temperature enters the evaporator by passing through the capillary tube, i.e. the expansion valve with decreased pressure.
  • Laundry treatment appliances with air-cooled condensers carry out the condensation process by using the ambient air in the drying process such that the thermal interaction between the cooling air and the closed cycle air having separate cycles is in question.
  • the cooling air is passed onto the condenser by means of a fan and thus, the moisture in the cycle air is condensed by the condenser that is being cooled.
  • air laden with moisture that comes from over the laundry passes through a processing air channel and is hereby condensed while the latter is being cooled by means of the outer environment air.
  • the closed cycle air is dehumidified on the condenser, it is heated by a heater and applied to the drum by being put again into the drying cycle with low relative humidity rate and at high temperature.
  • fluff particles that travel through the air between the components require particular attention.
  • lint particles come off the laundry as a result of mechanical interaction of cloth items with each other and with the drum surfaces and these particles should therefore be filtered to maintain sound operation of the laundry treatment appliance.
  • Fluff particles generally tend to accumulate around the heat exchange units' inlet and/or outlet tubes and on the inner surfaces of the main housings thereof. Depending on the severity of the case, these particles may build up to the extent of forming a surface layer and hence lower thermal performance of the heat exchanger, which in turn prolong drying period and cause energy losses. In the most extreme situation, fluff layers may even block air flow in a heat exchanger.
  • EP2478969 A prior art publication in the technical field of the present invention may be referred to as EP2478969 among others, the document disclosing a collector device wherein the condensed water generated in the heat exchange unit is collected.
  • Primary object of the present invention is hence to provide a laundry treatment appliance effectively discharging fluff particles by breaking the same into small parts to be cleared off and removed out of a condensate water discharge reservoir by pumping into a discharge tank.
  • the present invention proposes a laundry treatment appliance with a condensate water accumulation reservoir having an inner receptacle into which the condensate water is transferred through a discharge line in communication with a heat exchange unit.
  • a lint disintegration unit comprising a water jet device is disposed to deliver water jets to break lint pieces into smaller parts before they pass from the inner receptacle to an outer division of the inner receptacle in the condensate water accumulation reservoir in which a pump is placed.
  • the water jet device is installed in a water jet device holder separating the inner receptacle's outlet in the direction of the pump from the division where the pump is located.
  • the water jet device holder provides a liquid passage opening from said inner receptacle to the pump division while said water jet device delivers water jets in the direction of the liquid passage opening covered by a solid filter such that lint pieces are broken into smaller pieces by water jets directly targeting such pieces accumulated before the solid filter.
  • said water jet device is disposed in an inclined manner with respect to surface plane of the solid filter.
  • the present invention relates to a laundry treatment appliance (1) comprising a front door allowing access into a drum (2) installed in a tub of said laundry treatment appliance (1).
  • the laundry treatment appliance (1) generally comprises a six-sided cabinet with a front side door by which one can put in a laundry to be treated.
  • the laundry treatment appliance (1) of the invention may comprise an air circulation duct by means of which circulation of the processing air is effected for drying of the laundry in the drum (2).
  • a closed cycle fan may provide the circulation of the processing air such that the processing air is condensed by an air-cooled condenser.
  • the cooling air is taken from an outer air duct by means of an open cycle fan. The cooling air is passed onto the condenser to cool the same while a heater placed in the air circulation duct provides the dehumidified processing air coming from the condenser to be heated and sent onto the laundry.
  • the laundry treatment appliance (1) may comprise a compressor providing the refrigerant cycle in an air duct in a conventional manner meanwhile the processed air is circulated by means of a fan.
  • the compressor may typically move the refrigerant fluid such that heat sinks named as evaporator and condenser disposed in the heat pump respectively function as a condenser and heater.
  • an expansion valve is conventionally provided between the evaporator and the condenser, being disposed in fluid communication with the latter two in the refrigerant line.
  • a discharge line (4) leads to an inner receptacle (15) of the condensate water accumulation reservoir (5), the discharge line (4) being in fluid communication with a heat exchange unit as explicated above.
  • a plurality of water jet devices with a plurality of nozzles may be provided within the heat exchange units for effectively removing fluff particles and individual fibers that tend to build up within the components.
  • a filter (3) is optionally disposed in between the heat exchange unit and the inlet of the discharge line (4) such that lint (10) particles coming off the laundry as a result of mechanical interaction of cloth items with each other and with the drum's (2) inner surfaces and that travel through the air are filtered out.
  • the present invention provides a lint disintegration unit (9) as will be delineated hereinafter.
  • the lint disintegration unit (9) of the invention is in fluid communication with said discharge line (4). While Fig. 1 schematically demonstrates the condensate water accumulation reservoir (5), Fig. 2 makes it clear that the discharge line (4) opens to the condensate water accumulation reservoir (5), the latter comprising the lint disintegration unit (9) according to the invention.
  • the condensate water accumulation reservoir (5) shown in Fig. 3 to 7 therefore communicates (not shown) with the discharge line (4).
  • the heat exchange unit is directly in communication with the condensate water accumulation reservoir (5). Therefore, the discharge line (4) may only consist of a short extension forming an end part of the heat exchange unit.
  • the condensate water accumulation reservoir (5) forms a receptacle for collecting the condensate water flowing through the discharge line (4).
  • the condensate water accumulation reservoir (5) comprises a pump (6) and the inner receptacle (15) which is disposed inside the condensate water accumulation reservoir (5) so as to be separated from the pump (6) by a water jet device holder (14), the latter enclosing a water jet device (11) delivering water jets targeting a certain location in the inner receptacle (15). Water is supplied to at least one spray nozzle of the water jet device (11) through a supply conduit (13).
  • the water jet device holder (14) defines an assembly with a liquid passage opening from the inner receptacle (15) to the outside of the same such that lint (10) pieces in the condensate water are broken into smaller parts by means of the water jet device (11) while leaving the inner receptacle (15).
  • water jets produced by the water jet device (11) breaks greater lint (10) pieces down into smaller pieces resulting in that such pieces can pass a solid filter (12) being disposed inside the water jet device holder (14) so as to cover the liquid passage opening. Smaller pieces can therefore pass through the solid filter (12) and reach a division of the condensate water accumulation reservoir (5) where the pump (6) is located.
  • the pump (6) draws the condensate water and pushes the same out through a pump line (7) into a discharge tank (8).
  • the water in the discharge tank (8) may then be used for various purposes such as feeding water to a plurality of water jet devices (11).
  • the lint disintegration unit (9) of the invention therefore has a water jet device (11) in fluid communication with the inner receptacle (15) producing water jets to break lint (10) pieces into smaller parts.
  • the water jet device (11) can be disposed in an inclined direction with respect to the surface plane of the solid filter (12) such that lint (10) pieces accumulated immediately in front of the solid filter (12) can be targeted by water jets.
  • the condensate water may be supplied into the inner receptacle (15) by way of gravitational forces through the discharge line (4) from the heat exchange unit, lint (10) pieces flowing with the condensate water tend to accumulate in front of the solid filter (12) and the oblique disposition of the water jet device (11) advantageously provides an enhanced effect in breaking the accumulated lint (10) into smaller pieces and protecting the pump (6) against lint (10) clogging.
  • the size of the liquid passage opening and therefore the solid filter (12) is selected such that water jet device's (11) effect area coincides with the size of the liquid passage opening, meaning that the liquid passage opening forms a narrowed passageway in the direction of the pump (6) from the inner receptacle (15), which can be sprayed over by the water jet device (11).
  • a plurality of water jet devices (11) may be provided on the discharge line (4) so as to guide and facilitate continuous flow of the lint (10) through the discharge line (4) as well as to separate accumulated lint and fabric leftovers and to break the same into smaller pieces. This provides that damage to the pump (6) is less likely to occur.
  • the water jet devices (11) may preferably located in an equally-spaced manner throughout the discharge line (4).
  • this receptacle in accordance with the invention further comprises overflow openings (16) which serves to the purpose of discharging excess water in a prior manner so as to maintain any lint pieces therein. Further, it is established that a nozzle having a vertical position higher than the lower overflow openings (16) is more efficient in scattering accumulated lint (10) pieces. Therefore, the water jet device's (11) nozzle has a greater distance to the base of the inner receptacle (15) compared to the shortest distance of the overflow openings (16) thereto.
  • the present invention proposes a laundry treatment appliance (1) effecting drying of the laundry placed in a drum (2), the laundry treatment appliance (1) comprising a front door allowing access into the drum (2) installed in a tub, a heat exchange unit effecting condensation of moisture contained in the processing air being circulated, a discharge line (4) in fluid communication with the heat exchange unit and leading to a condensate water accumulation reservoir (5) provided to collect the condensate water.
  • Said condensate water accumulation reservoir (5) comprises an inner receptacle (15) fluidly communicating with the discharge line (4) and collecting the condensate water flowing through the discharge line (4) such that a lint disintegration unit (9) comprising a water jet device (11) produces water jets to break lint (10) pieces into smaller parts before leaving the inner receptacle (15).
  • the condensate water accumulation reservoir (5) comprises a pump (6) effective in pushing the condensate water out located outside the inner receptacle (15).
  • the inner receptacle (15) is separated from the pump (6) by a water jet device holder (14) enclosing the water jet device (11).
  • the water jet device holder (14) defines an assembly with a liquid passage opening from the inner receptacle (15) to the outside of the same, the water jet device (11) delivering water jets such that lint (10) pieces are broken into smaller parts inside the inner receptacle (15).
  • a solid filter (12) is disposed inside the water jet device holder (14) so as to cover the liquid passage opening.
  • the water jet device (11) is disposed in an inclined direction with respect to surface plane of the solid filter (12) such that lint (10) pieces accumulated immediately in front of the solid filter (12) are targeted.
  • the inner receptacle (15) comprises overflow openings (16) effective in discharging excess water and maintain lint (10) pieces.
  • the water jet device's (11) nozzle has a greater distance to the base of the inner receptacle (15) compared to the shortest distance of the overflow openings (16) thereto.
  • the size of the liquid passage opening and the solid filter (12) is selected such that water jet device's (11) effect area coincides with and corresponds to the size of the liquid passage opening.
  • Said inner receptacle (15) therefore has a narrowed outlet in the direction of the pump (6) as the liquid passage opening, the outlet lying within the effect area of the water jet device (11).
  • the water jet devices (11) are located in an equally-spaced manner throughout the discharge line (4).
  • the present invention therefore ensures that fluff particles removed from the heat exchange units are appropriately discharged out of the system in an efficient manner and malfunction of the pump (6) is prevented when pumping the condensate water filled with fluff particles.
  • Smaller lint pieces also provide that a smaller size and accordingly cheaper pump (6) can be employed.
