Description

DEVICE FOR ROTATING THE SHAFT OF A ROLLER BLIND
The invention relates to a device for rotating a shaft of a roller blind either of a such like product, said device comprising at least one roller which directly either indirectly might be coupled to said shaft, over which roller an operating chain either a cord can be guided by which said roller can be rotated.
In case of known roller blinds said operating chain either said cord is having the shape of a loop hanging downwardly from said roller being connected to said roller blind. In what follows there will be shortly spoken of a chain, the invention not being limited to this.
Now it has appeared that such a downwardly hanging loop might be dangerous for a child who at play is putting its head through said loop, either accidentally said loop will land over its head. In praxis such accidents have appeared.
Now the object of the invention is to raise this objection and to that end said roller, over which said operating chain is guided, is rotatable supported in a housing in such a way that when on said chain a force is exerted higher than a given value, said roller will be drawn out of said housing.
So, as long as the force exerted on said chain is not higher than a given value said device can be used in the normal way for rotating the roller and by this for operating said roller blind.
If now by a child, either in another way, a force higher than e.g. 6 kg, is exerted on said chain, said roller will leave said housing such that no longer a force will be exerted on said chain . According to an embodiment of the invention, the side walls of said roller are provided with substantially conical cavities in which from both sided suitable shaped support members are received being taken up in said housing and from which at least one is resilient pressed against said roller.
In particular the side walls of said roller might be provided with a substantial conical cavity in which in one side wall a complementary part of a sliding member can be received, being limited movable in said housing and is resilient pressed toward said roller, with in the other side wall of said roller a complementary part of a coupling member can be received, said coupling member being supported in said housing, said cooperating planes of said roller and said coupling member being provided with means by which said coupling member will rotate with said roller and in which said coupling member is direct either indirect coupled to said shaft of said roller blind.
Preferably both side walls of said roller will be provided with corresponding cavities such that said roller can be received in said housing in each of both positions. Obviously said complementary part of said sliding member will be executed such that said roller can freely rotate on it. For coupling said roller to said coupling member the surfaces of said conical cavities in the side walls of said roller and those of said conical surface of said coupling member might be provided with ribs extending according to describing lines of said conical surfaces.
According to an embodiment of the invention said housing can be executed such that this can be connected to a wall, a plane, a frame either such like being suitable for supporting the shaft of a roller blind either of such like object. For new roller blinds, which have to be mounted, this will give no difficulties. For an already present roller blind the mounting of the device described above will bring labour with it so that this will not be done soon.
In view of this according to the invention it is provided that said housing is executed as a longly extending free part in which said roller is rotatable supported in the way described above and can be drawn out of said housing and said roller, by means of at least one tooth wheel, can drive a secondary roller being rotatable supported in said housing and over which secondary roller a chain can be guided which further is guided over a roller serving for rotating the shaft of a roller blind either a such like object.
In case of an already present roller blind said primary operating chain can be made shorter and can be guided over said secondary roller in said housing. Then said housing will hang at a relatively short distance below said roller blind and the operating chain hanging out of said housing will be protected, in the way indicated above, because the roller can be drafted out of said housing when a too great force is executed on said chain .
The invention is further elucidated on hand of embodiments, shown in the drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 shows a side view of a first embodiment of a device according to the invention in the active position of this ;
Fig. 2 shows a cross section of the device of fig. 1 according to the line II-II in this;
Fig. 3 shows a side view of the device of fig. 1 but after the roller is drawn out of the device; Fig. 4 shows a cross section of the device of fig. 3 according to the line IV-IV in this;
Fig. 5 shows a side view of a second embodiment of a device according to the invention in which this is executed as a separate part and is in the active position;
Fig. 6 shows a cross section of the device of fig. 5 according to the line VI-VI in this;
Fig. 7 shows a side view of the device of fig. 5 after the roller is drawn out of the device; and
Fig. 8 shows a cross section over the device of fig. 7 according to the line VIII-VIII in this.
The figures 1-4 show a device comprising a housing 1, being provided with means, such as screw holes, for connecting a part 2 of a not further shown tooth wheel transmission.
In said housing 1 a sliding member 3 is present being influenced by a spring 4 such that it is pressed against the roller 5 with the surrounding surface 6, over which a chain 7 might run which in the known way might drive the roller. Both side surfaces 8 of the roller 5 are provided with substantial conical cavities 9. In one of said cavities a corresponding part of said sliding member 3 can be freely rotatable received, while in the other cavity a corresponding part 10 of a coupling member 11 can be received. The part 10 and the cooperating part of the conical cavity 9 in the roller 5 are executed such that the roller 5 will take said coupling member with it when said roller is rotated. To said coupling member 11 the shaft 12 of a further not shown roller blind, either a such like object, is fixedly connected. When the chain 7 will be loaded in the normal way said roller 5 will be rotated and by this the shaft 12 for operating said roller blind. If, however, a too high force is executed on said chain 7 the roller will press away said sliding member 3, against the force of the spring 4, and will snap over the part 10 of said coupling member 11 and will fall downwards as shown in the figures 3 and 4.
The figures 5-8 show a device in which parts corresponding with parts used in this case of the device described above, are indicated with the same numbers. In case of this embodiment of the device, use is made of a housing 21 consisting of two parts as indicated in fig. 5 either of more parts as indicated in fig. 7. Said parts are connected to each other by means of screws 22.
In this case the roller 5 is supported at both sides by a sliding member 3, being influenced by a spring 4. Again a chain 7 is guided over the periphery 6 of the roller 5. When a too high force is exerted on the chain 7 said roller will be drawn out of the housing 21 in the same way as shown in the figures 7 and 8.
Now the roller 5 is in its active position via one or more tooth wheels 23, being coupled to a secondary roller 24 being rotatable receiving in the housing 21. The primary operating chain 25 runs over said secondary roller 24 and serves for directly rotating of the shaft of a roller blind or a such like object. In respect of the normal executed operating of said roller blind with a primary operating chain extending over a reasonable height, now said primary chain 25 is made shorter such that said housing 21 is positioned near the shaft of said roller blind. It will be obvious that only two possible embodiments of a device according to the invention are shown in the drawing and are described above and that many modifications can be applied without leaving the inventive idea as this is indicated in the accompanying claims.
