Description
- The present invention relates to a household appliance, and more particularly a refrigeration appliance height of the shelves in the inner compartment of which can be adjusted in a practical manner.
- In household appliances such as refrigerators, the vertical level of a shelf may need to be adjusted if the food containers placed on the shelves need an increased vertical space. A variety of food containers such as pans of different sizes may require only a very short additional vertical space to be fitted on a shelf meaning that height adjustment of a shelf is a desired feature the users would benefit. In the opposite case, the user will be obliged to use a shelf with a larger vertical distance, which requires an unnecessary effort on the part of the user to relocate the container. Further, it might happen that a shelf appropriate for placing a container may be occupied in full so that no more space may be available for another high volume container.
- Therefore a practically quick and effective manner of height adjustment is desirable for avoiding such inconveniences. It is to be noted that a practically quick height arrangement method involves a relatively easily-operable mechanism, by which a user can quickly readjust the height of a shelf without applying a substantial amount of force or performing complex hand movements.
- Therefore, the present invention ensures that height adjustment of a refrigeration appliance shelf can be performed quickly and with ease such that a mechanically reliable, non-powered and space-saving height adjustment mechanism is operated to change the vertical level of a shelf in a user-friendly manner.
- A prior art publication in the technical field of the present invention may be referred to as
DE102010039625 A1 among others, the document disclosing a shelf in an interior space of a refrigerator, in particular a domestic refrigerator. The shelf is supported against side walls of the interior space in a vertically adjustable manner. A slide which can be moved in the depth direction of the interior space has at least one contact area which interacts with a contact area of the shelf or a contact area of one of the side walls in order to support the shelf. One of the interacting contact areas has a main section which slopes obliquely in the depth direction of the interior space. -
US 2013/081421 A1 discloses a refrigerator with a height adjustable shelf that includes, on two opposite sides of the shelf, a lead screw, a female screw unit screw-coupled with the lead screw, and a lead screw driving unit for rotating the lead screw. Two protrusions that extend sideward from the screw unit engage with parallel slanted guide channels in the side wall in order to lift or lower the shelf in accordance with the rotation direction of the lead screw. -
US 2008/203041 discloses a refrigerator with a height adjustable shelf that is carried by two pivotable links at its rear side. The links are connected at their lower ends in a pivotable manner to the rear wall of the refrigerator and connected at their upper ends in a pivotable and linearly movable manner to two oppositely extending threaded portions of a rotatable screw shaft. When said screw shaft is rotated by a user, the upper ends of the links symmetrically move away from each other or approach each other, depending on the direction of rotation, thus changing their inclination and hence the height of the shelf. - The present invention, on the other hand, provides a refrigeration appliance height of the shelves in the inner compartment of which can be instantly adjusted in a practical manner as defined by the characterizing features as defined in
Claim 1. - Primary object of the present invention is hence to provide a practical and instantly effective height adjustment mechanism for the shelves of a refrigeration appliance.
- The present invention proposes a refrigeration appliance having a shelf, the height of which can be altered by a lateral height adjustment mechanism, the latter comprising two main shafts at both sides, each of the main shafts in connection with a first and second worm gear portions. Rotation of the main shaft along with the first and second worm gear portions also drives a pair of reducer mechanisms being mechanically coupled with the first and second worm gear portions.
- Rotational movement is imparted to the main shaft and the first and second worm gear portions by means of a slider operable to displace linearly on a driving strap engaging with radial teeth of the first worm gear portion. The peripherally radial teeth of the first worm gear portion are in continuous engagement with the driving strap such that the engagement relationship is maintained along the movement of the slider between the two extremities of the linear trajectory thereof.
- To this end, rotational movement of said first and second worm gear portions is transformed into linear movement of guided rollers being connected with the first and second reducer mechanisms in opposite directions as the rotationally meshed relationship between each pair of a respective worm gear portion and associated reducer mechanism involves oppositely inclined teeth.
- The linear movement of the guided rollers is guided in inclined guiding channels such that the shelf is gradually moved up or down depending on the direction of displacement of the slider. Therefore, the height level of the shelf is symmetrically modified at both sides with regard to the two lateral walls of the refrigeration cabin.
