  • Fig.5 demonstrates another advantage of the restrictor members 22,24 overlying the lock body 36, namely that the restrictor 10 cannot be moved to its closed condition unless the key 34 is removed from the lock body 36.

In the fitted condition the fixing screws 48 are therefore located away from the window opening of the frame 14. This permits the fixing screws 48 to avoid any formations which are located immediately adjacent the window opening (such as the rounding 50 shown in Fig. 9 ), which rounding is typical of many frame profiles. Moving the fixing screws 48 as far from the window opening as possible reduces the likelihood that the fixing screws 48 will secure the first mounting part 12 at anything other than a flat region of the frame 14.
  • Figs. 5 and 6 also show some of the second fixing screws 52 for the second mounting part 20. It will be seen from Fig.1 that the second fixing screws 52 are totally obscured and inaccessible when the restrictor 10 is in its closed condition. It will be understood from Fig. 3 that the second fixing screws 52 are also almost fully obscured and almost fully inaccessible when the window is in its restricted position. Full access to the fixing screws 52 is only available when the locking element 30 has been released from the first mounting part 12, and the window 16 is opened, as seen in Fig.4 .

  • the lock member 56 engages catch 60 which is mounted to pivot between secured and released positions within the first mounting part 12.
  • the catch 60 in its secured position of Fig.7 engages the locking nose 62 of the locking element 30.
  • the catch 60 is biased by a compression spring 64 to rotate clockwise as drawn (towards its secured position), the spring 64 being compressed as the catch 60 is driven to pivot anti-clockwise by the body 56.
  • the key 34 can be rotated to an active position in which the eccentric boss 54 causes the catch 60 to move to its released position to release the locking nose 62, whereby the locking element 30 can be removed from the first mounting part 12, permitting full unrestricted opening of the window 16.
  • the key 34 cannot be removed from the lock body 36 when the lock body is in the active position of Fig.8 ; to remove the key 34 it is necessary to rotate the lock body 36 back to its inactive position of Figs. 7 and 9 .
  • the spring 64 extends and drives the catch 60 to pivot clockwise to the secured position of Fig.9 .
  • both of the catch 60 and the locking nose 62 have a tapered lead-in so that the restrictor 10 can be re-enabled without requiring the use of the key.
  • the locking nose 62 forces the catch 60 to pivot anti-clockwise as drawn to its released position, compressing the spring 64.
  • the spring 64 drives the catch 60 to rotate clockwise to secure the locking nose as shown in Fig.7 .
  • the key 34 is shown in Fig.9 , it will be understood that the key could be removed before the locking nose 62 is pressed into the recess 40.

  • the lock member 156 cooperates with the catch 60 to positively drive the catch to rotate both anti-clockwise and clockwise into its released and secured positions respectively.
  • the embodiment of Fig. 10 has no spring and the catch 60 is moved solely by rotation of the lock body 36 (by way of the eccentric boss 54 and the lock member 156).
  • the restrictor cannot be re-enabled without the key 34. Specifically, after the locking element 30 has been inserted into the recess 40 the key 34 is rotated to rotate the lock body 36 and the eccentric boss 54 (through approximately 180°), which moves the lock member 156 to the left as viewed and causes the catch 60 to pivot clockwise as drawn to its secured position (not shown, but similar to the secured position shown in Fig.7 ).
  • the eccentric boss 54 and the catch 60 are given the same reference numerals in Fig. 10 since they are identical to those components in the embodiment of Figs. 7-9 . It will be understood, however, that the form of the eccentric boss, and the form of the catch member, could differ between these two embodiments. In particular, there is no requirement for the catch 60 to have a tapered lead-in.
  • the structure and operation of the embodiment of Fig. 10 is otherwise similar to that of the embodiments of Figs. 7-9 and only the relevant differences have been discussed.
  • the window restrictor 10 is a relatively large component and is clearly visible upon the window. Whilst many restrictors made for the windows of domestic dwellings are substantially unobstrusive (and largely invisible), the highly-visible nature of the restrictor 10 is believed to be an advantage in healthcare facilities as it is expected to dissuade persons from seeking to disable or remove the restrictor.

Claims (14)

  1. Un restricteur de fenêtre (10) pour une fenêtre ouvrante (16), le restricteur de fenêtre ayant :
    une première partie de montage (12) conçue pour être montée sur un élément parmi la fenêtre et le cadre qui l'entoure (14) ;
    une deuxième partie de montage (20) conçue pour être montée sur l'autre élément parmi la fenêtre et le cadre qui l'entoure ;
    un premier organe de restricteur (22) raccordé de manière à pouvoir pivoter à la première partie de montage (12) ;
    un deuxième organe de restricteur (24) raccordé de manière à pouvoir pivoter à la deuxième partie de montage (20), les premier et deuxième organes de restricteur étant raccordés de manière à pouvoir pivoter l'un à l'autre, les premier et deuxième organes de restricteur étant mobiles entre une condition fermée et une condition ouverte, les première et deuxième parties de montage étant plus proches l'une de l'autre dans la condition fermée que dans la condition ouverte ;
    le premier organe de restricteur (22) étant raccordé à la première partie de montage (12) par le biais d'un élément de verrouillage (30) qui peut être libéré de la première partie de montage ;
    le restricteur de fenêtre (10) ayant un moyen de verrouillage actionné par clé (32) pour libérer l'élément de verrouillage (30) de la première partie de montage ;
    où le moyen de verrouillage actionné par clé (32) a un corps de verrou (36) avec un trou de serrure, caractérisé par le fait que le trou de serrure est inaccessible lorsque les premier et deuxième organes de restricteur (22, 24) sont dans la condition fermée.
  2. Un restricteur de fenêtre selon la revendication 1 dans lequel le trou de serrure est caché lorsque les premier et deuxième organes de restricteur (22, 24) sont dans la condition fermée.
  3. Un restricteur de fenêtre selon la revendication 2 dans lequel le trou de serrure est caché par les premier et/ou deuxième organes de restricteur (22, 24) lorsqu'ils sont dans leur condition fermée.
  4. Un restricteur de fenêtre selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 3 dans lequel les premier et deuxième organes de restricteur (22, 24) ne peuvent pas être déplacés vers la condition fermée quand une clé (34) est située dans le corps de verrou (36).
  5. Un restricteur de fenêtre selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 4 dans lequel le corps de verrou (36) est rotatif entre des positions active et inactive par le biais d'une clé, et dans lequel la clé n'est pas amovible du corps de verrou dans sa position active.
  6. Un restricteur de fenêtre selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 5 dans lequel les premier et deuxième organes de restricteur (22, 24) sont inextensibles.
  7. Un restricteur de fenêtre selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 6 dans lequel le moyen de verrouillage actionné par clé (32) est monté sur la première partie de montage (12).
  8. Un restricteur de fenêtre selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 7 dans lequel la première partie de montage (12) est assujettie à la fenêtre (16) ou au cadre (14) par des premiers dispositifs de fixation (48), et la deuxième partie de montage (20) est assujettie à l'autre élément parmi la fenêtre (16) et le cadre (14) par des deuxièmes dispositifs de fixation (52), les premiers dispositifs de fixation et/ou les deuxièmes dispositifs de fixation étant inaccessibles lorsque les premier et deuxième organes de restricteur (22, 24) sont dans la condition fermée.
  9. Un restricteur de fenêtre selon la revendication 8 dans lequel les premiers (48) et/ou deuxièmes dispositifs de fixation (52) ne sont pas visibles lorsque les premier et deuxième organes de restricteur (22, 24) sont dans la condition fermée.
  10. Un restricteur de fenêtre selon la revendication 8 ou la revendication 9 dans lequel les premiers (48) et/ou deuxièmes dispositifs de fixation (52) sont inaccessibles lorsque les premier et deuxième organes de restricteur (22, 24) sont dans la condition ouverte.
  11. Un restricteur de fenêtre selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 10 dans lequel l'élément de verrouillage (30) a un nez de verrouillage (62) et la première partie de montage (12) a un cliquet mobile (60) qui coopère avec le nez de verrouillage pour assujettir l'élément de verrouillage à la première partie de montage.
  12. Un restricteur de fenêtre selon la revendication 11 dans lequel le cliquet mobile (60) est sollicité par un organe élastique (64) vers une position assujettie, et dans lequel le nez de verrouillage (62) et/ou le cliquet (60) est effilé pour permettre un assujettissement du nez de verrouillage et du cliquet sans utiliser de clé.
  13. Un restricteur de fenêtre selon la revendication 11 dans lequel le corps de verrou (36) est raccordé au cliquet mobile (60) par le biais d'un organe de verrou (156), le cliquet mobile étant entraîné positivement à se déplacer entre une position assujettie et une position libérée par rotation du corps de verrou (36).
  14. Un restricteur de fenêtre selon l'une quelconque des revendications 1 à 13 dans lequel le premier organe de restricteur (22) est raccordé de façon à pouvoir pivoter à l'élément de verrouillage (30).
