Abstract
Described is a cap consisting of a first capsule (1) and a second capsule (2) external to the first capsule, wherein said first capsule is connected to a container (3) intended to house the substance to be kept separate and wherein said first capsule is closed by a membrane (4) or an insert applied therein.
Description
SAFETY CAP WITH CHAMBER FOR SUBSTANCES TO BE KEPT SEPARATE UNTIL THEIR USE
Field of the invention
The present invention relates to the field of containers with childproof safety caps, in particular those equipped with a chamber for components to be kept separate from the rest until the moment of use.
State of the art
As is known, containers for medicines are often equipped with safety caps to prevent the accidental opening thereof for example by children.
Such caps are normally equipped with devices which allow the opening thereof only through a suitable coordination of pressure and twisting and which are formed by a cap and an outer counter-cap arranged coaxially to contain the first.
On their surfaces, said caps have interfacing protrusions arranged so that they may be engaged with one another only to close the receptacle, while they slide against one another when they need to be opened. Therefore, to open the receptacle, there is a need to press the counter-cap axially downward against the cap and simultaneously rotate it so as to allow its protrusions to be engaged with other protrusions arranged on the counter-cap and conveniently oriented so as to allow the unscrewing of the cap following the movement given thereby.
On the other hand, it is known that there are formulations consisting of at least two components, one of which is to be kept separate from the other(s) until the moment of use; it is apparent that it would also be useful in this case to have a cap available which prevents the accidental opening of the receptacle.
Brief description of the figures
Figures 1 and 2 diagrammatically show in section a cap according to the invention. Figures 3-8 show certain details of the cap according to figures 1 and 2.
Figures 9 and 10 show the step of loading the container.
Figures 11 and 13 illustrate the operation of the cap according to the invention. Summary of the invention
Described is a cap consisting of a first capsule and a second capsule external to the first capsule, in which said first capsule is connected to a container intended to
house the substance to be kept separate and in which said first capsule is closed by a membrane or an insert applied therein.
Detailed description of the invention
The present invention allows the aforesaid problems to be overcome due to a cap consisting of a first inner capsule and a second capsule overlapping it coaxially (hereinafter called over-capsule), in which said first capsule is connected to a container intended to house the substance to be kept separate and in which said capsule is closed by a membrane or an insert applied therein.
As shown in figures 1 and 2, the cap according to the invention consists of a threaded capsule 1 capable of screwing onto the mouth of a bottle 6 and equipped with protrusions 13 arranged on the external wall of said capsule 1 and with an over-capsule 2.
Said threaded capsule 1 has a middle hole A in which a container 3 is inserted which is capable of sliding into said hole A when subjected to pressure, and is housed in the external over-capsule 2 which ensures the childproof operation. Container 3 is intended to contain the substance to be kept separate from the contents in the bottle until the moment of use and rests, at least partly, on a membrane 4 or an insert 5 applied inside the threaded capsule 1 at hole A thereof. If desired, the threaded capsule 1 may be equipped with seal ring 7 (see figure 3) connected to the wall of the capsule by means of connectors and equipped with an undercut 8 intended to engage with ring 9 of bottle 6 to cause the breaking of the connectors at the moment of opening when the capsule is unscrewed.
Over-capsule 2 (see fig. 2) is held on capsule 1 by means of an inner undercut 10 which engages with an outer circular edge 11 which protrudes at the base of capsule 1.
A series of side tabs 2 arranged on the inner wall of over-capsule 2 (see figure 4) is intended to engage the side protrusions 13 arranged on the external wall of capsule 1 during the screwing step.
Such tabs 12 and protrusions 13 are made in such a manner so as to jam against one another in closing step (see fig. 8) with the rotation in clockwise direction of over-capsule 2, and to slide against one another in the opening step (fig. 7), thus
not allowing the opening of capsule 1 with a simple rotation in counter-clockwise direction of over-capsule 2.
Container 3 (see fig. 5) intended to contain a powder or liquid substance has a base 16 which is housed inside a specific seat in over-capsule 2 and a cylindrical wall 17 which is housed, at least partly, in the middle hole on the head of capsule 1 so that the lower edge thereof coincides with the lower edge of hole A; an insert 5 (fig. 6) or a membrane 4 which closes the container on the bottom thus keeping separate the substance contained in container 3.
Insert 4 has a weakened area 18 at the cylindrical wall of container 3.
The teeth 14 on the over-capsule 2 and the teeth 15 on capsule 1 are made so as to overlap in closed position (fig. 8) when the tabs 12 and the protrusions 3 jam against one another, thus preventing the breaking of membrane 4 or of the weakened area 18 of insert 5 when membrane 4 or insert 5 is inserted inside capsule 1 (fig. 10).
In the same way, the teeth 14 on over-capsule 2 and the teeth 15 on capsule 1 overlap in closing step of the system on bottle 6 (fig. 8 and fig. 11 ), thus preventing the vertical force applied on the system by the closing head from causing the breaking of membrane 4 of the weakened area 18 of insert 5, thus causing the medical principle contained in container 3 to come out.
The cylindrical wall 17 of container 3 is preferably inclined in the front area so as to break the underlying membrane 4 or weakened area 18 of insert 5 when container 3 is pushed downward.
The teeth 14 on over-capsule 2 and the teeth 5 on capsule 1 are made so that in open position (fig. 8), when the tabs 12 and the protrusions 13 do not jam against one another, they do not overlap but fit together with one another if the over- capsule is pushed downward.
In the opening step, the rotation of over-capsule 2 combined with the downward pressure thereof determines the insertion of the teeth 14 of over-capsule 2 between the teeth 15 of capsule 1 thus generating a simultaneous downward movement of container 3, which cylindrical wall 17 inclined in the front area determines the breaking of membrane 4 or of the weakened area 18 of insert 5
and the falling of the substance contained in the chamber of container 3 into bottle 6 (fig. 12).
The continuation of the counter-clockwise rotation of over-capsule 2 drags capsule 1 thus causing the thread to be freed from the thread of bottle 6. The subsequent upward movement of the whole closing system causes the jamming of undercut 8 of the seal ring 7 of capsule 1 under ring 9 of bottle 6, thus causing the breaking of the connectors which join ring 7 to capsule 1 and the separation of ring 7 from capsule 1 (fig. 13).
Therefore, the movement required to open the childproof closing system inevitably determines the breaking of membrane 4 or of the weakened area 18 of insert 5 and the mixing between the substance contained in the chamber of container 3 and the substance contained in bottle 6.
The cap according to the invention may be manufactured according to techniques and using procedures normally used for this type of manufactured article (e.g. moulded); after the substance is dosed (fig. 9) in the chamber of container 3, insert 5 or membrane 4 is applied inside capsule 1 (fig. 10); membrane 4 may be glued or applied by magnetic induction to the inner surface of capsule 1.
