Description
- The present invention relates to a laundry dryer comprising an evaporator and a filter.
- In the closed cycle laundry dryers widely used nowadays, the process air (PA) is heated by a heat exchanger and directed into the drum, dehumidifies the laundry by contacting the damp laundry and is transferred to an evaporator to be dehumidified. The process air (PA) passed through the evaporator is heated at the condenser once more and then delivered to the drum. Under the evaporator a chamber is provided wherein the water droplets generated due to the condensation of the process air (PA) accumulate. Moreover, particles accumulating on the filter disposed in front of the evaporator are enabled to be accumulated in the chamber. However, the said particles pass through the chamber and accumulate on the evaporator, thus decreasing the effectiveness of the evaporator.

Patent Application DE 10 2010 039 603 A1 discloses a laundry treating apparatus comprising a first filter that is disposed in front of an evaporator in a process air cycle. A second lint filter that represents a lifetime lint-depot is disposed in a chamber located beneath the evaporator and the first filter. - European
Patent Application EP 2 458 072 A1 discloses a laundry dryer in which a lint filter is disposed in front of an evaporator in a drying air cycle and a condensate draining path extends below both sides of the filter. The lower end of the filter is immersed into the condensate, thus providing a fluid barrier that prevents the accidental passage of drying air from the drying air cycle to a reservoir where condensed water is collected. - The aim of the present invention is the realization of a laundry dryer, the drying effectiveness of which is increased.
- In the laundry dryer realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, the process air (PA) at least partially contacts the water in the chamber while passing through the air circulation duct. During all the steps of the drying process, the said water is kept in the chamber at a level that prevents particles such as lint, fiber, etc. falling from the filter into the chamber from reaching the evaporator. The water is kept at a level that prevents air passage between the filter and the evaporator in the chamber. The laundry dryer of the present invention comprises a discharge pump that enables the water in the chamber to be partially discharged from the chamber at periods predetermined by the manufacturer and at an amount predetermined by the manufacturer.
- The laundry dryer of an embodiment of the present invention comprises a separator that extends from the air circulation duct into the chamber and a chamber wherein air flow between the filter and the evaporator is prevented in the chamber by means of the water kept continuously in the chamber at a level that contacts the separator and particles falling from the filter are prevented from reaching the evaporator.
- The separator extends between the evaporator and the filter on the air circulation duct. The separator almost completely covers the upper side of the chamber between the evaporator and the filter.
- In an embodiment of the present invention, the air circulation duct comprises an opening that is arranged in front of the filter so as to be close to the filter base and that enables the particles such as lint, fiber, etc. accumulating on the filter to be transferred to the chamber.
- In the laundry dryer of the present invention, hygienic utilization conditions and energy efficiency are improved by using the evaporator efficiently.
- The laundry dryer realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
-
Figure 1 - is the schematic view of a laundry dryer. -

- 10. Opening
- The laundry dryer (1) comprises a body (2), a drum (3) wherein laundry to be dried is placed, an air circulation duct (4) enabling the process air (PA) to be sent onto the laundry in the drum (3), one filter (5) situated in the air circulation duct (4) and that holds the particles like fiber, lint etc. in the process air (PA) blown onto the laundry, an evaporator (6) disposed in the air circulation duct (4) and enabling the process air (PA) passing thereover to be condensed, and a chamber (7) that is disposed under the evaporator (6) and wherein the water droplets forming on the evaporator (6) surface accumulate (
Figure 1 ). - The laundry dryer (1) of the present invention comprises the filter (5) that is disposed in front of the evaporator (6) so that a distance remains between the evaporator (6) and the filter (5) and that enables particles such as lint, fiber, etc. in the process air (PA) to be retained before the process air (PA) reaches the evaporator (6), and the chamber (7) that extends from under the evaporator (6) to under the filter (5), wherein particles such as lint, fiber, etc. falling off from the filter (5) accumulate and wherein water is kept at a level that prevents particles such as lint, fiber, etc. falling off from the filter (5) from reaching the evaporator (6) (
Figure 2 ). - During the operation of the laundry dryer (1), fiber, lint and hair coming off the laundry and carried in the process air (PA) that circulates in the air circulation duct (4) disposed in the body (2) accumulate on the filter (5) disposed in front of the evaporator (6). The process air (PA) reaches the filter (5) before the evaporator (6). The water condensing in the process air (PA) condensed by the evaporator (6) accumulates in the chamber (7) disposed under the evaporator (6). The said chamber (7) is situated under the filter (5) and the evaporator (6). Particles such as lint, fiber, etc. falling off from the filter (5) fall into the chamber (7). In order to prevent the said particles from reaching the evaporator (6) through the chamber (7) and from decreasing the effectiveness of the evaporator (6), water is continuously kept in the chamber (7) at a level that prevents the particles from reaching the evaporator (6). The particles falling off from the filter (5) float on the water. Thus, the particles are prevented from reaching the evaporator (6) through the chamber (7).
- The laundry dryer (1) of the present invention comprises a discharge pump (8) that discharges the water in the chamber (7) up to a level predetermined by the manufacturer. The discharge pump (8) is operated at periods predetermined by the manufacturer and enables some of the water in the chamber (7) to be discharged from the chamber (7). By operating the said discharge pump (8) at intervals, water is continuously kept in the chamber (7) during all drying cycles at a level that enables the particles falling off from the filter (5) into the chamber (7) to be retained by the water before reaching the evaporator (6).
- The laundry dryer (1) according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises a separator (9) that is disposed on the air circulation duct (4) and that at least partially extends from the air circulation duct (4) into the chamber (7) so that a distance remains between the chamber (7) base and the separator (9). By means of the separator (9) that separates the chamber (7) into two so as to allow water transfer between the said two partitions, the water level in the chamber (7) is not required to be kept full up to top of the chamber (7). Keeping the water at levels to contact the separator (9) surface is sufficient to prevent the particles falling off from the filter (5) from reaching the evaporator (6). Thus, the water is prevented from overflowing from the chamber (7) into the air circulation duct (4) (
Figure 3 ). - The separator (9) extends between the evaporator (6) and the filter (5) on the air circulation duct (4). The separator (9) almost completely covers the upper side of the chamber (7) between the evaporator (6) and the filter (5). Thus, the water in the chamber (7) does not go into the air circulation duct (4) through between the evaporator (6) and the filter (5). Thus, drying effectiveness is improved.
- In an embodiment of the present invention, the air circulation duct (4) comprises an opening (10) that is arranged in front of the filter (5) so as to be close to the filter (5) base and that enables the particles such as lint, fiber, etc. accumulating on the front side of the filter (5) to be transferred to the chamber (7). The said opening (10) enables the particles such as lint, fiber, etc. accumulating on the front side of the filter (5) to be transferred into the chamber (7) that is partially filled with water.
- In the laundry dryer (1) of the present invention, a hygienic laundry dryer (1) with improved evaporator (6) effectiveness and energy efficiency is realized wherein the particles falling off from the filter (5) are prevented from reaching the evaporator (6) through the chamber (7) by means of the water kept in the chamber (7).
