Claims (11)

  1. Katalysatorelement (12), das in einer Katalysatorgruppe als Emissionskontrollvorrichtung für Gas verwendet werden soll, das einen Körper (18) umfasst, in dem ein Katalysatorkern (16) montiert ist, und wobei dieses Element gasdichte Seitenwände (14) und zwei entgegengesetzte Enden (23) umfasst, die an Kanten der Seitenwand grenzen, über welche Enden Gas zum Ein- und Ausströmen aus dem Katalysatorkern veranlasst werden kann, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass am Ende (23) des Katalysatorelementes der Körper eine Erweiterung (22) seiner Seitenwand(14)-Kante umfasst, die so gefaltet ist, dass sie sich nach außen von der Ebene der Seitenwand aus erstreckt.
  2. Katalysatorelement nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Körper (18) eine Erweiterung (22, 24) an jeder Seitenwandkante umfasst, die im Wesentlichen senkrecht zur Seitenwand (14) angeordnet ist.
  3. Katalysatorelement nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass eine Anzahl von aufeinanderfolgenden Erweiterungen sich nach innen (24) erstreckt und eine Anzahl von aufeinanderfolgenden Erweiterungen sich nach außen (22) erstreckt.
  4. Katalysatorelement nach Anspruch 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Anzahl gleich der halben Anzahl der Seiten des Elementes (12) ist.
  5. Katalysatorelement nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Körper (18) aus einem gasundurchlässigen Blattmaterial gebildet wird.
  6. Katalysatorelement nach Anspruch 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die nach innen gerichteten Erweiterungen (24) und die nach außen gerichteten Erweiterungen (22) so geformt sind, dass angrenzende Elemente miteinander durch die Erweiterungen verriegelt werden können, wenn sie Seite an Seite montiert werden.
  7. Katalysatorelement nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Erweiterungen eine Lücke zwischen zwei benachbarten Elementen in mindestens zwei Richtungen abdecken, wenn sie nebeneinander montiert werden.
  8. Katalysatorgruppe (30) zum Behandeln von Abgas eines Verbrennungsmotors, die eine Anzahl von Katalysatorelementen (12) nach einem der vorherigen Ansprüche umfasst, die mit ihren Seitenwänden gegeneinander so angeordnet sind, dass die sich nach außen erstreckenden Erweiterungen (22) eines ersten Elementes auf der nach innen sich erstreckenden Erweiterung (24) anderer Elemente angeordnet sind.
  9. Katalysatorgruppe (30) nach Anspruch 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der Körper einen quadratischen Querschnitt hat und die nach außen gehenden Erweiterungen (22) eines ersten Elementes (12.1) auf der nach innen gehenden Erweiterung (24) von zwei anderen zweiten Elementen (12.2, 12.3) angeordnet sind.
  10. Katalysatorgruppe (30) nach Anspruch 8, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die zwei benachbarten Katalysatorelemente (12.1, 12.2) miteinander durch die nach außen gehende Erweiterung (22) und die nach innen gehende Erweiterung (24) der Seitenwand (14) verriegelt sind.
  11. Verfahren zum Herstellen eines Katalysatorelementes, das Schritte zum Anordnen eines Blattes aus undurchlässigem Material von länglicher Rechteckform, Definieren von Kreuzfaltpositionen (52), die einer Breite einer Seite eines Katalysatorkerns entsprechen, der im Element verwendet werden soll, Definieren von Längsfaltpositionen (54), die einer Länge des Katalysatorkerns entsprechen, der im Element verwendet werden soll, Anordnen eines Schnitts (56) bis zur Position jeder Kreuzfaltposition, der sich von der Kante des Blattes bis zur Längsfaltposition erstreckt, Falten des Blattes an den Kreuzfaltpositionen und Anordnen des Blattes, um den Katalysatorkern (16) zu umschließen, und Falten des Blattes an den Längsfaltpositionen, sodass Erweiterungen (22, 24) gebildet werden, von denen eine Anzahl von aufeinanderfolgenden Erweiterungen nach innen (24) geht und eine Anzahl von aufeinanderfolgenden Erweiterungen nach außen (22) geht.
