If the temperature of the cooling medium rises above 100 °C, there is a risk of boiling of the cooling medium in the low pressure parts of the HT circuit.

  • the heat exchanger 4 is thus a liquid-liquid heat exchanger.
  • the heat exchanger 4 is arranged in the low temperature cooling circuit 3, and the cooling medium of the high temperature cooling circuit 2 can be selectively conducted through the heat exchanger 4.
  • the heat exchanger 4 is located in the low temperature cooling circuit 3 downstream from the lube oil cooler 14 and upstream from the low temperature heat exchanger 15.
  • the high temperature cooling circuit 2 comprises means 5, 6 for selectively conducting cooling medium through the heat exchanger 4.
  • the means 5, 6 comprise a selector valve 5 and a cooling duct 6 for conducting the cooling medium through the heat exchanger 4.
  • the cooling duct 6 is connected to the selector valve 5 and to a point of the high temperature cooling circuit 2 downstream from the selector valve 5. Because of the selector valve 5, the heat exchanger 4 can be bypassed when there is no risk of excessive heating of the cooling medium of the high temperature cooling circuit 2.
  • the selector valve 5 can be an automatic temperature controlled valve, which conducts the cooling medium to the heat exchanger 4 when the temperature of the cooling medium in the high temperature cooling circuit 2 exceeds a predetermined limit value.
  • the temperature of the cooling medium in the high temperature cooling circuit 2 can be kept within the desired limits.
  • the system is particularly beneficial when an existing engine 1 is upgraded with more effective turbochargers 7. Only minor changes are needed for upgrading the existing cooling system.
  • the flow rates and duct sizes in the cooling circuits 2, 3, 13 do not have to be changed.
  • the cooling circuits can be arranged to cool also other objects than those shown in the embodiments.

Claims (3)

  1. Système de refroidissement pour moteur à combustion interne (1), ce système de refroidissement comprenant un circuit de refroidissement à haute température (2), un circuit de refroidissement à basse température (3) et un échangeur de chaleur (4) pour transférer de la chaleur du circuit de refroidissement à haute température (2) au circuit de refroidissement à basse température (3), l'échangeur de chaleur (4) étant disposé dans le circuit de refroidissement à basse température (3) et le circuit de refroidissement à haute température (2) étant équipé d'une vanne de sélection (5) qui peut être utilisée pour conduire sélectivement le fluide de refroidissement dans l'échangeur de chaleur (4) ou pour contourner l'échangeur de chaleur (4), caractérisé en ce que la vanne de sélection (5) est disposée en aval d'un refroidisseur d'air de charge (7) à travers lequel le fluide de refroidissement du circuit de refroidissement à haute température (2) est conçu pour s'écouler.
  2. Système de refroidissement selon la revendication 1, caractérisé en ce qu'à la fois le fluide de refroidissement du circuit de refroidissement à haute température (2) et le fluide de refroidissement du circuit de refroidissement à basse température (3) peuvent être conçus pour s'écouler à travers l'échangeur de chaleur (4).
  3. Système de refroidissement selon la revendication 1 ou 2, caractérisé en ce que l'échangeur de chaleur (4) est disposé dans le circuit de refroidissement à basse température (3) en aval d'un refroidisseur d'huile lubrifiante (14).
