Description

  • The invention relates to a rehabilitation exercising mechanism or seated walker for training legs and/or hands of a user or patient.
  • Typical rehabilitation exercising mechanisms are complicated and may include a greatly increased manufacturing cost.
  • The invention provides a rehabilitation mechanism as defined in the claims.
  • In the drawings:
    • Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a rehabilitation mechanism;
    • Figs. 2, 3 are partial exploded views of the mechanism;
    • Figs. 4, 5, 6 are partial cross sectional views; and
    • Figs. 7, 8 are side plan views of the rehabilitation mechanism.
  • Referring to Figs. 1-4, a rehabilitation exercising mechanism comprises a base 10 including a seat 11 and a seat back 12 for supporting a user or patient, a frame 13 attached to the front of the base 10 (Figs. 7-8) and including two arms 14, a shaft 15 extended from each arm 14, an ear 16 extended from the shaft 15 or the arm 14, and a stop 17 disposed on the shaft 15 or the arm 14, and the ear 16 includes an orifice 18 (Fig. 5).
  • Two handles 20 each has a tube 21 at bottom 22 and attached onto the shaft 15, the tubes 21 are engageable with the stops 17 which may limit the handles 20 to move relative to the shaft 15, the handles 20 each include a barrel 23 attached on one end 22 or on the tube 21, and the barrel 23 includes a bore 24 (Figs. 2, 5) aligned with the orifice 18 of the ear 16 of the shaft 15 and/or of the arm 14, and includes two openings 25, 26 communicating with the bore 24 (Fig. 5), and includes a groove 27 located between the openings 25, 26 and communicating with the bore 24 and the openings 25, 26.
  • The handles 20 each include a latch device 3 having a catch 30 engaged in the bore 24 of the barrel 23, and the catch 30 includes one or first end 31 extendible out of the barrel 23 (Figs. 4, 5) for engaging with the orifice 18 of the ear 16, and for locking the handle 20 to the arm 14 and for preventing the handle 20 from being pivoted relative to the frame 13. A fastener 33 is engaged with the catch 30 (Fig. 5) and engaged in the groove 27 of the barrel 23 and engageable into either of the openings 25, 26 of the barrel 23, a knob 34 having a compartment 35 for engaging with the fastener 33 and for moving the fastener 33 and the catch 30 relative to the barrel 23 and the handle 20, in which the knob 34 includes a narrowed neck 36 having a reduced outer diameter for engaging with either of the openings 25, 26 of the barrel 23 (Fig. 5).
  • The knob 34 includes an outer diameter greater than the inner diameter of the openings 25, 26 and may not be engaged into the openings 25, 26 of the barrel 23, but the neck 36 of the knob 34 includes an outer diameter no greater than the inner diameter of the openings 25, 26 for allowing the neck 36 to be engaged into either of the openings 25, 26 of the barrel 23. When the neck 36 is engaged into either of the openings 25, 26, the knob 34 may be anchored to the barrel 23. A spring 37 is engaged into the compartment 35 of each knob 34 and engaged between the knob 34 and the fastener 33 for biasing the neck 36 to engage into either of the openings 25, 26 of the barrel 23. On the contrary, when the neck 36 is removed away from the openings 25, 26, the knob 34 may slide relative to the barrel 23 to move the fastener 33 and the catch 30 relative to the barrel 23, for allowing the neck 36 to engage with the other opening 26, 25 of the barrel 23. When the knob 34 is engaged with the first opening 25 (Fig. 4), the first end 31 of the catch 30 is extended out of the barrel 23 to engage with the orifice 18 of the ear 16, and to lock the handle 20 to the arm 14 of the frame 13.
  • On the contrary, when the knob 34 is engaged with the second opening 26 (Figs. 5-6), the second end 32 of the catch 30 is extended out of the barrel 23 for engaging with a foot support 40 which includes a sleeve 41 at one end and attached to the shaft 15 and rotatable relative to the shaft 15 (Figs. 7-8), and includes a flap 42 extended from the top of the foot support 40 and having one or more (such as two) apertures 43 formed in the flap 42 for engaging with the second end 32 of the catch 30 (Figs. 5-6) which may latch the handle 20 to the foot support 40 (Fig. 8). The foot support 40 includes an extension 45 engaged into the bottom 44 of the foot support 40 and having a foot pedal 46 formed at the bottom of the extension 45 for allowing the user to move the foot support 40 relative to the frame 13 (Fig. 8).
  • The foot supports 40 each include one or more pulleys 47 for engaging with cables 50 which are engaged between the foot supports 40 and the extension 45 and the foot pedal 46 and the frame 13 and/or the base 10 for resisting the movement of the extension 45 and the foot pedal 46 relative to the foot support 40 and/or the movement between the foot supports 40 and the base 10. The foot supports 40 each include a pulley 47 located close to the sleeve 41, one or more hooks 48 attached to the foot support 40, and one or more retainers 49 attached to the extension 45. The cables 50 may be engaged between the foot supports 40 and the extension 45 and the foot pedal 46 and may be coupled to the frame 13 and/or the base 10 for biasing the extension 45 and the foot pedal 46. The cables 50 are coupled to the base 10 and engaged with the hooks 48 and the pulleys 47, and coupled to the retainers 49.
  • In operation, the user may be seated on the seat 11 and may step on the foot pedal 46 and may rotate the foot support 40 relative to the frame 13 (Fig. 7), and may step and move the extension 45 and the foot pedal 46 toward or away from the foot support 40. The cables 50 may resist the movement of the foot supports 40 relative to the base 10 and may resist the sliding movement of the extensions 45 and the foot pedals 46 relative to the foot supports 40. Alternatively, as shown in Figs. 6 and 8, when the handle 20 is latched to the foot support 40, the user may grasp the handles 20 to rotate the foot support 40 relative to the frame 13. At this moment, the user may also rotate the foot support 40 relative to the base 10 and may also step and move the extension 45 and the foot pedal 46 toward or away from the foot support 40.
