Definitions
- the present invention relates to a luminaire of the type comprising a frame for wall or ceiling support or for flush mounting or for tabletop or freestanding use.
- Lamps which are constituted substantially by a metallic frame with which a support for an incandescent lamp, connected electrically to the mains with the interposition of a switch, is associated.
- So-called emergency lamps which usually comprise a light source, constituted by a neon tube, which is supplied by the mains and is provided with a sensor which, in the absence of mains power, gives clearance for an auxiliary power supply provided by an adapted battery.
- these emergency lamps are usually shaped like a parallelepiped, which is aesthetically scarcely appreciated, and are usually placed over the lintel of doors, worsening the overall aesthetic appearance of the room in which they are arranged.
- Lamps which use, as a light source, LEDs, which must be powered at a preset voltage obtained by using a transformer.
- the aim of the present invention is, therefore, to solve the described technical and aesthetic problems, eliminating the drawbacks of the cited background art and thus providing a luminaire that has multifunctional characteristics, allowing at the same time to contain operating costs and installation times.
- an object of the invention is to provide a luminaire that can be used to light a room both in the presence of mains power and if mains power is not available.
- Another object is to provide a luminaire that can be activated even without necessarily using a switch.
- Another object is to provide a luminaire that is aesthetically pleasant and has modest dimensions in relation to the functions that it performs.
- Another object is to obtain an invention that is structurally simple, has low manufacturing costs and can be provided by means of ordinary known equipment.
- a luminaire comprising a frame for wall or ceiling support or for flush mounting or for tabletop or freestanding use, characterized in that it is constituted by a power supply for one or more first LEDs with time-controlled lighting or for ordinary lighting and for charging a battery for supplying power to one or more second emergency LEDs, said one or more first and second LEDs being activatable by means of an electronic circuit controlled by at least one presence sensor, such as an infrared and/or microwave sensor, and one sensor for detecting the mains power supply.
- a presence sensor such as an infrared and/or microwave sensor
- the numeral 1 designates a luminaire of the type comprising a frame for wall or ceiling support or for flush mounting or for tabletop or freestanding use, made of metal or plastic material and defining a container 2 for a diffuser 3 that can be associated therewith detachably by way of known means.
- First holes 5 for fixing, by means of adapted screws, to a wall or ceiling and second holes 6 for the passage of the necessary wires (not shown) are provided on the bottom 4 of the container 2.
- a power supply 9 for one or more first LEDs 10 with time-controlled lighting or for ordinary lighting and for charging a battery 12 for supplying power to one or more second emergency LEDs 13 is associated with the bottom 4 of the container 2.
- Said power supply 9 advantageously is arranged within a ventilated enclosure 14, which is preferably cylindrical and made of plastic material and is associated axially with the bottom 4.
- the first LEDs 10 with time-controlled lighting are arranged advantageously at the perimetric edge 15 of a disk 16, which is rendered integral with the bottom 4 of the container 2 and has a larger diameter than said enclosure 14.
- said first LEDs 10 Once said first LEDs 10 have been switched on, they generate a light that is reflected partially on the lateral surface 17 of said adjacent enclosure 14.
- the second emergency light LEDs 13 also are arranged at the disk 16 along a circumference that is concentric with respect to the circumference on which said first LEDs 10 are arranged and are therefore closer to the lateral surface 17 of said enclosure 14.
- the second LEDs 13 are therefore fewer than said first LEDs 10 and, once lit, their light also is reflected partially on the lateral surface 17 of said adjacent enclosure 14.
- Said one or more first and second LEDs with time-controlled lighting 10 and for emergency lighting 13 can be activated by means of an electronic circuit 18 controlled by at least one first presence sensor 19a, such as an infrared and/or microwave sensor, that is thus adapted to detect motion, and by a second sensor 19b for detecting the mains power supply.
- first presence sensor 19a such as an infrared and/or microwave sensor
- said electronic circuit is composed of a transformer 20 that has a series of outputs at preset voltage values for supplying power to a microprocessor 21, for charging a battery 12, for the first LEDs 10 and the second LEDs 13.
- the transformer 20 transforms the voltage from low to very low to supply power to said first LEDs 10, switches on and off (like a switch) said first LEDs 10 by means of a motion detector constituted by said first presence sensor 19a, determines and regulates the lighting time of said first LEDs 10, charges the battery 12 to supply power to said second LEDs 13, diverts the switch-on from said first LEDs 10 to said second LEDs 13 in case of lack of electric power supply, activating, by means of the battery 12, the switch-on of said second LEDs 13, ensuring their emergency lighting for several hours as required by international safety standards, diverts the switch-on from said second LEDs 13 to said first LEDs 10 if the electric power supply returns.
- first actuator 23 and a second actuator 24 which are adapted respectively to control said first LEDs 10 with said microprocessor 21 and said second LEDs 13 with said microprocessor 21 and said battery 12.
- the microprocessor 21 is connected to the sensor 19a by means of adapted level regulators 25.
- the microprocessor therefore has the function of switching on the first and second LEDs 10, 13, of checking the status of the charge of the battery 12, of switching on the first LEDs 10 if a motion is detected in the room in which the luminaire 1 is inserted.
- a third brightness or ambient light sensor can be present which has the function of controlling the lighting of the luminaire if a drop in the intensity of the light is detected and at the same time a person is present in the room.
- the invention has achieved the intended aim and objects, a luminaire having been obtained which combines in itself multiple functions, such as the direct lighting of an enclosed space, which can be activated also due to the presence and/or motion of the user, and the emergency function, all by using LEDs with low power consumption.
- the luminaire can thus be used to light an enclosed space both in the presence of mains power and if mains power is not available.
- the luminaire is compact and has a small size in relation to the functions that it performs and therefore does not encumber esthetically the enclosed space in which it is placed.
- the luminaire is structurally simple.
- Figures 7 to 11 illustrate a second embodiment of a luminaire 101, which comprises a container 102 proximate to the bottom 104 of which there is, substantially along a diametrical axis, a first seat 126 for a power supply 109, which can be inserted therein so as to be concealed.
- a second seat 129 for a battery 112 that can be inserted therein.
- Said second seat 129 accommodates said battery 112 completely and has an opening 130 provided at the lateral surface 128 of the container 102; this opening can be closed by means of a detachable cover 131.
- Said cover 131 can be associated by snap action or screwed to said container 102; in this last case, the cover 131 can be constituted by a plug, which is transparent and optionally has a lenticular upper surface and can be screwed onto the lateral surface 128 of the container 102 to cover and protect the disk 116.
- the first and second seats 126, 129 are closed in an upward region by arranging a disk 116, which is fixed, proximate to the perimetric edge 115, to a perimetric ridge 132 that protrudes from the bottom 104 of the container 102.
- the cover 131 has, in a further embodiment, a substantially L-shaped cross-section so as to define a curved main wing 133, from the free end of which there protrude two protrusions 134a, 134b that are inserted detachably in adapted third seats 135a, 135b provided on a ring 136 that protrudes at the base of the container 102.
- a sponge 138 or other elastically compressible material can be inserted advantageously between said battery 112 and the inner lateral surface of said main wing 133.
- One or more first LEDs 110 with time-controlled lighting and for charging said battery 112 that supplies power to one or more second emergency LEDs 113 are associated with the disk 116.
- the first LEDs 110 with time-controlled lighting are arranged advantageously proximate to the perimetric edge 115 of the disk 116.
- the second emergency light LEDs 113 are also arranged at the disk 116 along a circumference that is concentric with respect to the one along which said first LEDs 110 are arranged and has a smaller diameter.
- Said one or more first and second LEDs with time-controlled lighting 110 and emergency LEDs 113 can be activated by means of an electronic circuit that is controlled by at least one first presence sensor 119a, such as an infrared and/or microwave sensor, which is arranged above the disk 116, and a second sensor for detecting mains power supply, which is arranged within the board on which the electronic circuit is mounted.
- first presence sensor 119a such as an infrared and/or microwave sensor
- first actuator 123 and a second actuator 124 which are adapted respectively to affect said first LEDs 110 with said microprocessor and said second LEDs with said microprocessor and said battery 112.
- the shape of the disk 16, 116 may also be different, for example with a rectangular plan shape.
- a third brightness or ambient light sensor 119c the function of which is to switch on the luminaire if a drop in the intensity of the light that is present in the room is detected and at the same time a person is present in the room.
