Definitions
- the present application relates to a clay ball filter, especially for ventilation hoods intended for professional kitchens.
- hoods intended for professional use, arrangements must be made to prevent rapid clogging of the chimney through which the air laden with more or less fatty vapors is evacuated.
- the filter is an essential element in a ventilation hood because it helps retain fat.
- the other elements constituting the hood are intended to promote the operation of the filter.
- self-cleaning hoods are used to clean the hood filter (s) in the service position and / or during operation of the hood.
- filters for ventilation hoods consisting of a grid having means for adjusting the width of the interstices between its bars.
- clay ball filters used in self-cleaning hoods which have the advantage of greatly increasing the contact surface between the fatty air and the cleaning product of the self-cleaning hood and to interrupt the passage of a possible flame thus avoiding chimney fires.
- the cleaning product is generally a product with a relatively high pH of between 9 and 9.5.
- the clay balls of a ball filter are naturally porous and will therefore retain the cleaning product during each cleaning cycle. From a neutral or even basic pH initially, the beads retain a basic pH cleaning force and end of life of the filter, will have a pH close to that of the cleaning product. This can be a problem for the reprocessing and disposal of the beads.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a clay ball filter for a self-cleaning ventilation hood for professional kitchens that is efficient and whose beads can be recycled once the filter at the end of life.
- the present invention relates to an expanded clay ball filter for equipping a kitchen ventilation hood comprising a frame, an upper grate, a lower grate and expanded clay balls retained in the frame between the lower and lower grids. higher, characterized in that the expanded clay beads have an acid pH so that said pH is neutralized in contact with a product of basic pH.
- the applicant has surprisingly found that the use of clay beads at the initial acid pH had no influence on the efficiency of the filter and moreover allowed to obtain beads which, at the end of The life of the filter, after multiple cleanings with a basic product, had a near-neutral pH of between 6 and 6.5.
- the filter according to the invention and in particular the clay balls that it contains can be recycled relatively easily without great risk to the environment.
- such a filter according to the invention has all the advantages of a clay ball filter: it offers a greater contact area between the air laden with grease and the cleaning product of the self-cleaning hood; it allows to interrupt a possible flame thus avoiding the chimney fires; it offers great efficiency by taking advantage of the principle of centrifugal force: at each turn of the air laden with grease between the balls, part of the grease, constituting the heavy part of the air, is deposited on the balls .
- the air can make an average of a dozen turns through the filter.
- the speed at which the air passes through the filter can be relatively high, for example between 1.5 and 2.2. m / s, without an annoying whistling, which could be the case with the filters of the prior art arranged so that the air makes only two turns crossing them.
- the ball filter according to the invention and illustrated in Figures 1 to 3 is intended for use in a ventilation hood and in particular in a self-cleaning ventilation hood as used in a professional kitchen.
- the ball filter 1 is composed of a frame 2, an upper grid 3 and a lower grid 4. Expanded clay balls 5 are placed in the frame between the upper and lower grids 3 4.
- the upper grill 3 is essentially flat, while according to the invention the lower grill 4 is grooved thus increasing its surface
- the contact surface between the filter 1 and the vapors and fumes of the cooker is thus increased conferring on the filter 1 high efficiency.
- the clay balls 5 have a diameter large enough to reduce the pressure drop when the fat-laden air passes through the filter.
- the diameter of the balls 5 is between 15 and 20 mm.
- the thickness of the ball bed 5 also makes it possible to control the pressure drop and the efficiency of the filter. Indeed, the greater the thickness, the greater the degreasing will be important.
- the particularity of the filter according to the invention lies in the fact that the clay balls 5 have an initial acidic pH, preferably between 5 and 5.5.
- This pH can be obtained by any appropriate treatment of the beads 5 and in particular by buffering (soaking the beads in an acidic solution to lower their pH).
- the acidic clay beads are further treated to reduce their porosity.
- the basic pH, between 9 and 9.5, of the cleaning product delivered by the self-cleaning hood equipped with the filter according to the invention is neutralized.
- the balls 5 of a filter according to the used invention will have a near-neutral pH of between 6 and 6.5.
- the used beads can therefore be recycled more easily than the balls of a prior art ball filter which complete their life cycle with a basic pH close to that of the cleaning product and which are therefore more difficult to eliminate.
- the filter according to the invention has all the advantages of a known ball filter with regard to the degreasing efficiency.
- the filter according to the invention offers an increased ease of recycling.

Abstract
