Definitions
- the present invention relates to the general field of the needling of an annular fiber preform for the production of needle-punched textile structures.
- a circular needling table comprises a horizontal plate on which is placed an annular fiber preform, drive means (usually friction) in rotation of the fibrous preform around a vertical axis of rotation, and a needling device having a needling head extending over an angular sector of the plate and driven in vertical reciprocating movement with respect to the plate.
- the annular fiber preform is deposited on the bed of the needling table in layers which are superimposed on each other.
- the fibrous preform is rotated about the vertical axis and is struck by the needling head at each passage under the latter so as to bind the different layers together.
- a stepwise descent movement is generally imposed on the table as the layers of the fibrous preform are superimposed and needled.
- the mechanical characteristics of the final product thus obtained depend strongly on the actual needling density used for the fibrous reinforcement.
- This actual needling density depends in particular on the needling density per unit area, the penetration rate of the needles, the pitch of movement down the table and the functional characteristics of the needles.
- WO 92/04492 discloses a circular needling table according to the preamble of claim 1.
- the present invention therefore proposes a needling table and its associated method which overcomes such disadvantages by allowing a more homogeneous needling of the fibrous preform while promoting the expansion of the fibers.
- the needling head is controlled to move radially during the process of needling the fibrous preform so as to create offsets in the position of the needles striking the fiber preform. This piloting of the needling head thus makes it possible to obtain a more uniform needling of the fibrous preform and to promote the expansion of the fibers of the preform, which then improves the infiltration of the matrix material into the porosity of the preform. .
- the needling device may comprise a vertical support animated by a vertical movement back and forth relative to the plate and on which is mounted the needling head, and an electric motor mounted on the support and whose shaft output is coupled to the needling head to move it in a radial direction relative to the axis of rotation of the fiber preform.
- the motor is preferably a linear stepper motor.
- the support of the needling device further comprises an end-of-travel sensor for the displacement of the needling head. This sensor makes it possible to "zero" the needling head.
- the invention also relates to a needling process of a textile structure formed from an annular fiber preform, comprising the laying on a horizontal plate in superposed layers of an annular fibrous preform, the setting in rotation on the plateau of the annular fibrous preform around an axis of vertical rotation, and the needling of the fibrous preform by a needling head extending over a predetermined angular sector of the plateau and animated by a vertical movement back and forth with respect to the plate, the method further comprising, during needling of the fiber preform, moving the needling head in a radial direction relative to the axis of rotation of the preform fibrous.
- the needling head may be moved radially by the same predetermined pitch between two consecutive turns of the fibrous preform around the axis of rotation.
- the needling head can be moved radially at the same predetermined pitch at each new turn of the fibrous preform around the axis of rotation.
- the pitch and the number of displacements of the needling head are a function of the desired needling density.
- the invention is applicable to any circular needling process in which annular textile layers (or layers) are stacked and needled on a tray to form a needled fibrous preform of annular shape.
- These layers may be previously formed by juxtaposed rings or ring sectors cut from a non-woven fabric or fabric of unidirectional or multidirectional fibers. They can also be formed by coils wound flat from a feeding device such as that described in the patent application. WO 02/088449 or by turns formed from deformed braids, or by turns formed from a deformable two-dimensional texture (braid or helical fabric).
- a circular needling table 10 according to the invention for the implementation of such a needling process is very schematically represented on the Figures 1A-1B and 2 .
- the fibrous annular preform 12 to needling is brought directly onto a horizontal plate 14 of the needling table.
- This preform 12 is rotated about a vertical axis of rotation 16, for example by means of conical rollers 18a, 18b kept in permanent contact with the preform ( Figure 2).
- this device for rotating the preform comprises two conical rollers spaced from each other by 120 ° and each actuated by an independent geared motor 20a, 20b.
- a common drive coupled with a suitable kinematics could also be considered.
- the annular preform 12 thus rotated passes a needling device 22 comprising in particular a needling head 24 which overhangs a predetermined angular sector of the horizontal plate 14.
- This needling head is driven by a vertical reciprocating movement (c). that is to say, back-and-forth) with respect to the plate 14 by means of a suitable drive device 26 (for example of the crank-rod type).
- the needling head 24 carries a specified number of needles 28 which are provided with barbs, hooks or forks to take fibers from the stacked layers of the annular preform and transfer them therethrough as they enter the preform .
- these needles 28 are arranged in several rows of needles 30.
- the plate 14 of the needling table comprises a series of vertical perforations 32 located facing the needles 28 of the needling head for the passage thereof during the needling of the first layers of the annular preform .
- the plate of the needling table is moved vertically, by means of suitable motor means 34, of a determined descent step substantially corresponding to the thickness of a needled layer.
- the needling device 22 further comprises means for allowing the needling head 24 to move in a direction radial to the axis of rotation 16 of the fiber preform 12.
- the needling device 22 comprises a vertical support 36 on which the needling head 24 is mounted, this support being driven by the vertical reciprocating movement via the drive device 26.
- the support 36 of the needling device carries, in its upper part, an electric motor 38 whose output shaft 40 is coupled to the needling head 24 to move it in a direction radial relative to the axis of rotation of the fibrous preform.
- a linear stepper motor 38 will be used for which the output shaft 40 moves linearly.
- This output shaft is oriented in a radial direction and connected to the needling head, for example by means of a bracket 42.
- the needling head 22 is mounted on the support 36 of the needling device so as to be able to slide along an upper edge 36a thereof between two extreme positions, namely a retracted position ( Figure 1A ) and an advanced position (the advance is shown schematically by the distance A on the Figure 1B ).
- the impact of the needles 28 carried by the needling head on the fibrous preform below will not be the same (the rows of needles 30 will hit at different locations with each movement of the needling head). This is called the introduction of a radial offset in the needling of the fiber preform.
- the motor 38 for moving the needling head 22 is controlled by a control device (not shown) which is programmed according to the selected parameters of the needling range.
- the control device ensures control of the needling head during the entire needling process of the textile structure to be produced.
- control device may be programmed to introduce a radial offset of the same predetermined pitch between two consecutive turns of the fibrous preform around its axis of rotation.
- the needling head is positioned according to one of its extreme positions ( Figure 1A or Figure 1B ) for the entire first round of the fiber preform. Then, for the next round as a whole, the needling head is shifted radially towards the other end position by a predetermined pitch p (for example corresponding to half the distance separating two adjacent rows of needles). On the next turn, the needling head is returned to its original end position, and so on.
- a predetermined pitch p for example corresponding to half the distance separating two adjacent rows of needles.
- the controller may be programmed to introduce a radial offset of an even predetermined for each new round of the fiber preform (ie no offset in the 1 st turn, offset of a predetermined pitch p in the 2 nd round, shift with one step p + p, ie 2 p on the next turn, shift by one step p + p + p or 3 p on the next turn, etc.).
- a limit switch 44 is advantageously positioned on the support 36 of the needling device. This sensor 44 makes it possible to detect when the needling head 22 has arrived in one of its extreme positions (for example the retracted position) so as to initiate the piloting process of the head. needling, that is to say to perform the origin "0" of the needling head before the start of the shift sequence.
- control device it is possible to envisage other ways of programming the control device to introduce radial offsets in the needling. For example, it is possible to consider any shift for the first 3 turns of the fibrous preform, then introduction of the same pitch shift p for the next three turns, then again no shift for the next three laps, etc. .
- FIGs 3A and 3B show needling results obtained by a needling process of the prior art ( figure 3A ) and by a needling process according to the invention ( figure 3B ) that is to say in which a radial needling offset is introduced.
- the figure 3A shows the impacts of the needles of a needling head driven according to the prior art, this needling head being provided with four rows of needles.
- the direction of rotation of the preform is shown schematically by the arrow ⁇ .
- the needling diagram obtained comprises four rows of holes 46 corresponding to the four rows of needles of the needling head.
- the needling was performed by performing six complete turns of the fibrous preform around its axis of rotation.
- the holes made during the 1 st and 4 th passes of the fiber preform under the needling head bear the reference “1”
- the holes made during the 2 nd and 5 th passes are referenced by “2”
- the holes made during the 3 rd and 6 th passages bear the reference '3'.
- This circumferential offset d is deliberately introduced by adjusting the speed of advance of the fibrous preform around its axis of rotation so as to multiply as much as possible the impact locations of the needles.
- the figure 3B picks up the same needling head with its four rows of needles and six full laps of the fibrous preform around its axis of rotation but controlling the needling head according to the invention, that is to say by introducing a radial offset.
- a radial offset of a predetermined pitch p was added after the first three turns of the fiber preform.
- impacts needles to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds are identical to those of the needling performed according to the figure 3A (holes bearing the references “1” to “3”), while the impacts for the 4 th , 5 th and 6 th rounds are shifted radially by one step p towards the increasing radii of the preform (holes bearing the references “ 4 "to” 6 ").
- the pitch p corresponds substantially to half the distance separating two adjacent rows of needles.
- the needling diagram obtained here comprises four rows of holes 46 corresponding to the four needle rows of the needling head and four additional rows of holes 46 'created by the radial offset and formed between the rows of holes 46. .
