Description

    A CUTLERY BASKET FOR DISHWASHERS
  • The present invention relates to a cutlery basket used in dishwashers.
  • In dishwashers, cutlery baskets are used that provide the small volume items to be washed. Covers are mounted on the cutlery basket, whereon cutlery items are placed, in order to increase utilization capacity of the cutlery basket. The covers are generally stored outside the dishwasher when not in use. This situation not only creates difficulty of utilization but also results in the covers getting lost.
  • In the state of the art European Patent Application No. EP1256309, a cutlery basket used in dishwashers, having a movable cover structure is explained.
  • The aim of the present invention is the realization of a cutlery basket used for placing items like forks and spoons in a dishwasher and comprising a cover that provides ease of utilization.
  • The cutlery basket realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises a body having at least one side wall, wherein items like forks, spoons, knives are placed and a cover that covers the top of the body. In the cutlery basket of the present invention, the cover can be kept at three different positions.
  • In the first position, the cover is positioned so as to cover the top of the body. In the second position, the cover extends outwards from the body in the horizontal plane such that the utilization capacity of the cutlery basket is increased. Thus, it is possible to place items to be washed both inside the body and also on the cover. In the third position, the cover is positioned outside the side wall so as to extend parallel to the side wall in the vertical plane. Thus, the cover is provided to be stored without occupying space when not in use.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, a guide is arranged on the side wall, extending in the horizontal and a pin on the cover that moves inside the guide. The cover can make the shift between positions easily by means of the pin moving inside the guide.
  • In a derivative of this embodiment, the guide comprises a housing that provides the cover to remain at the position it is brought and a passage that enables shifting between the positions. Thus, controllable movement of the cover and fixing at the desired position is made possible and when items to be washed are placed thereon, the cover is prevented from changing position with the effect of weight.
  • In a derivative of this embodiment, a housing is disposed at each end of the passage. Thus, the cover can be fixed at more than one position by passing through the passage between the housings.
  • In a derivative of this embodiment, when in the first position, the cover can be changed to the second position by being held from the free side and rotated.
  • In a derivative of this embodiment, when in the second position, the cover can be changed to the third position by being pulled and rotated.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the cover is of perforated configuration. Thus, the items placed into the body can be held in an almost upright position by being inserted through the holes on the cover and cleaned in an effective manner.
  • The model embodiments relating to a cutlery basket realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention are illustrated in the attached figures, where:
  • Figure 1 – is the perspective view of a cutlery basket while the cover is in the first position.
  • Figure 2 – is the perspective view of a cutlery basket while the cover is in the second position.
  • Figure 3 – is the perspective view of a cutlery basket while the cover is in the third position.
  • Figure 4 – is the view of detail A in Figure 1.
  • Figure 5 – is the view of detail B in Figure 2.
  • Figure 6 – is the view of detail C in Figure 3.
  • The elements illustrated in the figures are numbered as follows:
    1. Cutlery basket
    2. Side wall
    3. Body
    4. Cover
    5. Guide
    6. Pin
    7. 107. Housing
    8. Passage
  • The cutlery basket (1) comprises
    • an open-top, box-shaped body (3) wherein small volume items like cutlery are placed, having at least one side wall (2) and
    • a cover (4) that is movably mounted on the body (3).
  • The cutlery basket (1) of the present invention comprises the cover (4) having a first position where it covers the top of the body (3), a second position where it forms an additional support surface by extending over the side wall (2) outwards from the body (3), being almost vertical to the side wall (2) and a third position where it extends almost parallel to the side wall (2) outside the body (3) (Figure 1, Figure 2 and Figure 3).
  • When the cutlery basket (1) is in the first position, the cutlery items are placed on the cover (4). In this position, the utilization capacity of the cutlery basket (1) is almost limited with the surface area of the cover (4). If the number of items to be washed is too many, the capacity of the cutlery basket (1) is increased by changing the cover (4) to the second position. In this position, there are two disposition regions, some of the items are placed into the cutlery basket (1) and some are placed on the cover (4). When the cover (4) is in the third position, disposition of items can be made not only into the cutlery basket (1) but at the same time the cover (4) does not prevent placement of items around the periphery of the cutlery basket (1). The cover (4) having three different positions provides the user to utilize the cutlery basket (1) in an effective manner.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the cutlery basket (1) comprises a guide (5) disposed on the side wall (2) in the horizontal plane and at least one pin (6) disposed on the cover (4) that changes position on the guide (5) while the cover (4) is moved between the first position, the second position and the third position. Consequently, the integrated structure of the cover (4) with the cutlery basket (1) is preserved during changes of position.
  • In a derivative of this embodiment, the cutlery basket (1) comprises the guide (5) having two housings (7, 107), providing the cover (4) to be fixed at the position it is brought and a passage (8) providing the pin (6) to move therein. Consequently, the shifting between the positions of the cover (4) can be made easily and the cover (4) can be kept fixed at the desired position (Figure 4, Figure 5 and Figure 6).
  • In a derivative of this embodiment, the guide (5) comprises two housings (7, 107) disposed at the end portions of the passage (8). While the cover (4) is in the first and second position, the pin (6) is in the second housing (107) and while in the third position, the pin (6) is in the first housing (7). The pin (6) moves between the two housings (7, 107) by means of the passage (8).
  • In a derivative of this embodiment, the cutlery basket (1) comprises a cover (4) that is changed from the first position to the second position by being rotated. While the cover (4) is rotated from over the body (3) to the outside of the body (3), the pin (6) rotates inside the second housing (107) around its own axis. The cover (4) is changed to the second position when rotated 180 degrees. When the cover (4) is in the second position, the portion of the cover (4) as long as the length of the guide (5) remaining on the body (3) increases the resistance of the cover (4) against the weight of the items placed thereon (Figure 2 and Figure 5).
  • In a derivative of this embodiment, the cutlery basket (1) comprises a cover (4) that is changed from the second position to the third position by being slid and rotated. The cover (4), while being changed from the second position to the third position, is pulled, providing the pin (6) to pass through the passage (8) and to enter into the first housing (7). When released after the pin (6) enters into the first housing (7), the cover (4) changes to the third position by shifting to the vertical plane with the effect of gravity (Figure 3 and Figure 6).
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the cutlery basket (1) is grid shaped. The items placed on the cover (4) are inserted through the holes and provided to be held almost in the vertical position. Thus, cleaning performance increases.
  • The dishwasher of the present invention comprises a cutlery basket (1) as described in the above mentioned embodiments.
  • The cutlery basket (1) of the present invention comprises a cover (4) that can be in three positions. As the cover (4) changes to the second position, an additional support surface is formed for items like cutlery, etc. Consequently, the cutlery basket (1) is utilized more effectively.
  • It is to be understood that the present invention is not limited to the embodiments disclosed above and a person skilled in the art can easily introduce different embodiments. These should be considered within the scope of the protection postulated by the claims of the present invention.
