Claims (4)

  1. Method for operating a washing machine, in particular a drum washing machine, comprising a laundry drum (4) for receiving the laundry to be washed, a device for feeding the fresh water which is to be introduced into the subs container (3), a heating member (6) which is arranged in the suds container (3) for heating the washing water and which also acts as a heating device for generating steam in order to treat the laundry using steam, a discharge pump (9) for pumping out the service water via the waste water system arranged in the housing of the washing machine (1), a control device (13), by means of which, in conjunction with a water level sensor (5), the water levels in the machine are adjusted, which water levels being provided according to the program,
    characterised in that
    a speed-controllable pump is used as the discharge pump (9),
    in that, following the inflow of the fresh water provided for the steam generation and after a water level (H0, H1) above the heating member (6) is reached, the discharge pump (9) is driven at a speed which causes some of the water located in the suds container (3) to be conveyed into empty spaces in the waste water system provided inside the washing machine,
    and in that a water level (H2) is adjusted by means of the water level sensor (5) in conjunction with the control device (13) in order to generate steam by means of the heating device (6), at which level the heating member (6) is located outside the water, whereby, when the heating member (6) is switched on, the residual water that is still adhered to the heating member is evaporated,
    and in that a change in the water levels H1 and H2 is brought about by the discharge pump (9) being intermittently switched on and off.
  2. Method for operating a washing machine according to claim 1,
    characterised in that
    a water level (H2) is adjusted by means of the water level sensor (5) in conjunction with the control device (13) in order to generate steam by means of the heating member (6), at which level a portion of the surface of the heating member (6) is located outside the water.
  3. Method for operating a washing machine according to claim 1,
    characterised in that
    a change in the water levels H1 and H2 is brought about by operating the discharge pump (9) at different speed levels.
  4. Method for operating a washing machine according to one or more of claims 1 to 3,
    characterised in that
    the discharge pump (9) is accelerated up to the speed using a soft start function, in which the water is conveyed from the suds container (3) into empty spaces in the waste water system.
