Zur exakten Steuerung der Ein- und Auslassventile ist dabei eine äußerst exakte, das heißt maßgenaue Fertigung der Nockenwelle von entscheidender Bedeutung. Wichtig ist dabei jedoch nicht nur, dass die Nockenwelle bei einem Erstausrüster exakt gefertigt und montiert wird, sondern dass diese auch in einem Wartungs- bzw. Reparaturfall vergleichsweise einfach demontiert und wieder montiert werden kann. Die vorliegende Erfindung beruht auf dem allgemeinen Gedanken, ein aus anderen Fertigungsbereichen bereits vielfältig bekanntes Poka-Yoke-Prinzip nunmehr auch auf die Montage an Nockenwellen zu übertragen und für eine Positionierung eines Funktionselementes auf der Nockenwelle eine Formschlussverbindung vorzusehen, die einen Zusammenbau der Nockenwelle nur bei einer eindeutigen und exakten Relativlage des Funktionselementes zur Nockenwelle erlaubt. Aus diesem Grund ist an der Nockenwelle wenigstens ein Positionierelement vorgesehen, das fest mit der Nockenwelle verbunden ist und welches über einen Formschluss ein einfaches Ausrichten des zumindest eines Funktionselementes an der Nockenwelle sowohl in axialer Richtung als auch bezüglich einer Drehwinkellage erlaubt. Das Funktionselement wird somit im einfachsten Fall lediglich randseitig auf die Nockenwelle aufgesteckt und kann dabei seine endgültige Einbaulage nur dann erreichen, wenn es in exakter und vordefinierter Formschlusslage zum Positionierelement steht. Eine derartige Formschlusslage kann beispielsweise durch ein gegenseitiges Eingreifen einzelnen Positioniernasen bzw. Positionierausnehmungen erzwungen werden. Eine Falschmontage des Funktionselementes auf der Nockenwelle kann somit eindeutig ausgeschlossen werden. Im Vergleich zu bisher bekannten Verbindungen mittels eines Schrumpfsitzes bietet die erfindungsgemäße Nockenwelle den großen Vorteil, dass das Funktionselement beispielsweise bei einem Reparatur- oder Wartungsfall einfach von der Nockenwelle und in genau gleicher einfacher Weise wieder auf der Nockenwelle positioniert und ausgerichtet werden kann, ohne dass hierfür beispielsweise die gesamte Nockenwelle aus der Brennkraftmaschine ausgebaut werden müsste, beispielsweise um einen Schrumpfsitz zu lösen bzw. wieder zu befestigen. Durch die erfindungsgemäße Formschlussverbindung ist es zudem möglich, an diesem Funktionselement, beispielsweise einem Zahnrad, mehr Drehmoment zu übertragen, so dass beispielsweise auf eine weitere Verbindung, wie insbesondere einen Presssitz, verzichtet werden kann. Von weiterem großem Vorteil ist, dass an einem einmal ausgerichteten Funktionselement nunmehr auch weitere Funktionselemente ausgerichtet werden können, beispielsweise über entsprechende Ausrichtvorrichtungen, insbesondere Montageklammern. Eine feste Verbindung des Funktionselementes auf der Nockenwelle kann beispielsweise über eine Mutter erfolgen, die das jeweilige Funktionselement gegen das zugehörige Positionierelement verspannt und damit den Formschluss in einer unlösbaren Stellung fixiert.
