Description

A DRYER COMPRISING AN AIR GUIDE WHICH DIRECTS THE COOLING AIR
  • The present invention relates to a dryer wherein the vibration and noise generated due to the high-speed cooling air leaving the condenser are decreased.
  • In closed cycle and air-condensation laundry dryers, the drying process is provided with the interaction between the cooling air and the cycle air that do not directly contact each other. The cycle air is heated by a heater and directed into the drum by means of the cycle fan. The cycle air contacting the damp laundry dehumidifies the laundry and is transferred to the condenser to leave its moisture. At the same time, the condenser is provided to be cooled and the moisture in the cooling air is provided to be condensed by the air sucked from the outer environment being passed over the condenser by means of the cooling fan. The air sucked from the outer environment is directed onto the fan by means of a guide. While the cooling air is sucked, sound and noise are generated due to the flow. For decreasing the noise, the inner surface of the guide is coated with an insulation material.
  • In the state of the art United States Patent Application No US2005217139, a dryer is described comprising an air guide which is mounted to the cooling air inlet, directs the cooling air to the fan and the inner surface of which is coated with an insulation material.
  • However, the insulation material, which provides the amount of the noise to be decreased while the cooling air is sucked, prevents the flow in the cooling air inlet by becoming deformed in due course.
  • The aim of the present invention is the realization of a dryer wherein the flow in the cooling air inlet is improved and the generation of noise is decreased.
  • In the dryer realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and respective claims thereof, the inner surface of the guide, which directs the cooling air from the air inlet to the fan, is coated with an insulation material and thus the noise generated during suction is prevented. In the dryer, a retainer is mounted on the insulation material in order to prevent the insulation material, which is fastened to the inner surface of the guide preferably by adhesion and which could prevent the air passage through the guide by becoming deformed in due course, from projecting towards the inner volume of the guide even if the insulation material becomes deformed. The insulation material at least partially remains between the guide and the retainer and thus even if the insulation material becomes deformed, the possibility of the prevention of the air passage through the guide by the insulation material is eliminated.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the retainer is ring shaped and is seated into the guide so as to bear against the insulation material. Thus, the insulation material is provided to be fastened on the inner wall of the guide easily and so as not to stretch towards the air flow path.
  • In another embodiment of the present invention, the retainer is placed at the port of the guide that faces the fan. In the said embodiment, the inner diameter of the retainer is shaped to decrease towards the diameter of the fan from the inner diameter of the guide so as to deliver the air carried by the guide to the fan inlet with a soft flow.
  • In a derivative of the said embodiment, the retainer is shaped as a neck the narrow end of which delivers the air to the fan and the wider end of which retains the insulation material.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, an insert port, into which the retainer is seated, is disposed at the end of the guide on the side of the fan. Thus, the retainer is provided to be easily fixed on the guide.
  • By means of the retainer used in the dryer of the present invention, the cooling air can be delivered to the fan with high flow rate and pressure, without interruption and noise.
  • By means of the present invention, while the noise generated while the cooling air sucked is decreased, risks such as the closing of the cooling inlet and/or the occurrence of pressure loss due to the decreasing of the flow rate of the cooling air are eliminated and the dryer is provided to operate more silently and efficiently.
  • The dryer realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
  • Figure 1 – is the sideways schematic view of the dryer of the present invention.
  • Figure 2 – is the front schematic view of the dryer of the present invention.
  • Figure 3 – is the perspective view of the inlet, the guide, the insulation material and the retainer in an embodiment of the present invention.
  • Figure 4 – is the sideways cross-sectional view of the inlet, the guide, the insulation material and the retainer in an embodiment of the present invention.
  • Figure 5 – is the sideways cross-sectional view of the inlet, the guide, the insulation material and the retainer in another embodiment of the present invention.

  • The dryer (1) comprises
    • a body (2),
    • a drum (3) disposed in the body (2), into which the laundry to be dried is placed,
    • a condenser (4) providing the cycle air used in the drying process to be dehumidified by being condensed,
    • an inlet (5) which allows the outside air to enter the body (2),
    • a fan (6) disposed opposite the inlet (5) and which sucks air from the outer environment for cooling the condenser (4),
    • a guide (7) which provides the air received from the inlet (5) into the body (2) to be directed to the fan (6) and
    • an insulation material (8) which is coated on the inner surface of the guide (7) and which absorbs the noise generated while the air passes through the guide (7).
  • The dryer (1) of the present invention furthermore comprises at least one retainer (9) which is placed in the guide (7) such that the insulation material (8) remains therebetween and which prevents the insulation material (8) from stretching towards the inner volume of the guide (7). Thus, the problem of the insulation material (8) forming an obstruction while the air passes through the guide (7) as a result of becoming deformed in due course and the dependent problems such as pressure loss, noise, etc. are eliminated.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the retainer (9) is configured as a bracket which presses the insulation material (8) towards the guide (7). Thus, the insulation material (8) is provided to be retained against deformation by means of the retainer (9).
  • In another embodiment of the present invention, the retainer (9) is disposed at the end of the guide (7) close to the fan (6) and the cross-section of the retainer (9) becomes narrow towards the fan (6) so as to provide the air in the guide (7) to be directed towards the fan (6). Thus, the flow of the air inside the guide (7) is regulated and the said air is provided to be easily delivered to the fan (6).
  • In a derivative of the said embodiment, the retainer (9) is configured as a half-hyperboloid the wider port of which extends towards into the guide (7) and provides the insulation material (8) to be retained and the narrow port of which extends towards the fan (6) and provides the air to be easily delivered to the fan (6). Thus the air in the guide (7) is provided to be delivered to the fan (6) with a soft flow and the noise to be generated is minimized.
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the dryer (1) comprises an insert port (10) which is disposed at the end of the guide (7) that faces the fan (6) and which allows the retainer (9) to be mounted on the guide (7). Thus, the retainer (9) is provided to be easily fixed on the guide (7).
  • In an embodiment of the present invention, the inlet (5) is disposed on the front wall of the body (2) and the dryer (1) furthermore comprises a lid which closes the front of the inlet (5) and whereon holes are situated.
  • By means of the retainer (9) used in the dryer (1) of the present invention, the noise, which is generated while the air received into the body (2) for cooling the condenser (4) is delivered to the fan (6), is prevented and the decreases that could occur in the flow rate and pressure of the air before the air enters the fan (6) are eliminated. Thus, the dryer (1) is provided to operate more silently and the drying effectiveness is increased.
  • It is to be understood that the present invention is not limited by the embodiments disclosed above and a person skilled in the art can easily introduce different embodiments. These should be considered within the scope of the protection postulated by the claims of the present invention.
