Description
- This invention relates to an insulating terminal base of a connector, particularly to place the terminal in the terminal grooves of the body, combining it with the body by means of a clamping member as integral so that the terminal can be prevented from loosening off.
- A conventional insulating terminal base, such as one disclosed in
EP No.1825575 B1 and German PatentDE No. 20 2005 009 962 U1 1, is mainly provided with a insulating member (100, 200, 300) for a conducting member (16) in the connector, and the insulating member (100, 200, 300) is formed with a shaft hole (12) for receiving the conducting member (16) therein, and the shaft hole (12) is provided with a diametrical groove (14), which extends along just the same length of the insulating member (100, 200, 300). In addition, the diameter of the shaft hole (12) is less than that of the conducting member (16) so that the conducting member (16) may be combi8ned with the insulating member (100, 200, 300), preventing the conducting member (16) from falling off the insulating member (100, 200, 300). -
EP 1 843 435 A2 - One object of the invention is to offer an insulating terminal base of a connector able to improve the above-said faults of a conventional one.
- The object of the invention is obtained with an insulating terminal base of a connector according to
claim 1. - This invention will be better understood by referring to the accompanying drawings, wherein;

Fig. 14 is a perspective of another example of the insulating terminal base of a connector combined with a terminal shell in the present invention; and -
Fig. 15 is a perspective view of the insulating terminal base of a connector combined with a connector in the present invention. - An insulating terminal base of a connector in the present invention, as shown in
Figs. 1 to 3 , includes abody 1, a plurality ofterminals 2, and aclamping member 3 as its components combined together. - As shown in
Figs. 1. 2 . And 3, thebody 1 is made integral, provided with a plurality ofterminal grooves 10, afirst groove 10a and asecond groove 10b formed in eachterminal groove 10, and aposition groove 12 formed between eachfirst groove 10a and eachsecond groove 10b. The length of eachfirst groove 10a, eachsecond groove 10b and eachposition groove 10c may be all the same or not the same.
In addition, eachterminal groove 10 has an opening 10c for a terminal to be inserted - As shown in
Fig. 1 and 3 , one end of theterminal groove 10 or one end of thefirst groove 10a is a terminal guidinghole 100, so that a male terminal may be inserted to combine with thefemale terminal 2 placed in the insulating terminal base. All theterminal guiding holes 100, as shown inFigs. 2 and 3 , are located in a front end surface of thebody 1, and formed in an annular shape as those of all theterminal grooves 10. The other end of theterminal grooves 10 is the other end of thesecond grooves 10b, or asopen end 101. As shown inFigs. 2 and 3 , theposition groove 12 of eachterminal groove 10 is provided with twosmall diameter sections large diameter section 122 is formed between the twosmall diameter sections 120, and121, having a smaller or a larger length as that of the twosmall diameter sections Fig. 5 . Thelarge diameter section 122 has an inner diameter larger than that of the twosmall diameter sections large diameter section 122 is the same or large than that of theterminal groove 10. - Next, as shown in
Figs. 2 and 3 , the twosmall diameter sections terminal groove 10, so the twosmall diameter sections bottom wall 103 of theterminal groove 10. - As shown in
Figs. 3 ,5 ,6 and 7 , theposition groove 12 is provided with aclamping member circumference 13 formed recessed in the outer surface of thebody 1, so as to match with the thickness of the wall of theclamping member 3. Theclamping member circumference 13 has the same shape as theclamping member 3, provided with twopositioning edges 130 to fit in the edge hole of theclamping member 3 and two guidingfaces 131 formed on two sides for theclamping member 3 to correctly and quickly be combined together. - The
terminals 2 can be a signal terminal or a conducting terminal, as shown inFig. 6 and 7 , provided with twosmall diameter sections large diameter section 22 formed between the twosmall diameter sections small diameter sections small diameter sections large diameter section 22 may be larger or smaller than the twosmall diameter sections large diameter section 22 is formed to match with thelarge diameter section 122 of theposition groove 12. The twosmall diameter sections large diameter circumferences large diameter section 22 of the terminal may be equal to, larger than or smaller than thelarge diameter section 122 of theposition groove 12. - Next, as shown in
Fig. 7 , In combining theterminals 2 with thebody 1, the twosmall diameter sections large diameter section 22 of theterminals 2 are respectively placed in the twosmall diameter sections position groove 12, resulting in combining theterminals 2 with theposition grooves 12, and also combining theterminals 2 with thebody 1. - The
clamping member 3 is provided with anopening 30, as shown inFigs. 6 ,8 and 9 . Theopening 30 has a width smaller than the diameter of theclamping member 3, so as to give theclamping member 3 some flexibility to open and close. Theclamping member 3 is also provided with pluralcurved surfaces 31, which are made to correspond to the location and number of theterminal grooves 10 of thebody 1. Theclamping member 3 is also provided withplural edge holes 32 corresponding to the location of theposition edge 130 of theclamping member circumference 13. Then theedge holes 32 fit with theposition edges 130, combining theclamping member 3 with the body completely. - In combining the insulating terminal base of a connector, firstly, the
terminals 2 are inserted in theterminal grooves 10, and theclamping member 3 is placed in theclamping member circumference 13 of thebody 1, forming a circular body as shown inFigs. 10 and 11 , with thecurved surfaces 31 of theclamping member 3 tightly pressing the surface of theterminal 2, with theedge hole 32 of theclamping member 3 and theposition edge 130 of theclamping member circumference 13 mutually fitting with each other, stably combining thebody 1 and theterminal 2 with theclamping member 3, as shown inFigs. 12 and 13 . Thus, theterminals 2 can be prevented from loosening off theterminal grooves 10, avoiding inferior contact and thereby stabilizing signals transmitted through the connector. Next, as shown inFigs. 12 and 13 , the insulating terminal base (A) is directly positioned in theshell 4 of the terminals and than placed in a connector (B), becoming a practical connector as shown inFig. 15 . - Or as shown in
Fig. 14 , aflexible sleeve 5 is installed around an outer surface of the insulating terminal base (A), provided with afront circumference 50 ad arear circumference 51 with a comparatively large outer diameter so as to smoothly be inserted in theterminal hole 40. Theflexible sleeve 5 is provided with plurallong holes 52,which have acircumference 53 curved and having an outer diameter gradually becoming smaller from therear circumference 51 to thefront circumference 50 so that thecircumference 53 flexibly open and close a little. In addition, theflexible sleeve 5 is provided with anopening 54 for producing outer diameter change properly for convenience of assembling and operation. Therefore, the provision of theflexible sleeve 5 in theterminal shell 4 in theterminal hole 40 can maintain the outer surface of theterminal hole 40 completely closed. - While the preferred embodiment of the invention has been described above, it will be recognized and understood the various modifications may be made therein and the appended claims are intended to cover all such modifications without departing from the present claims.
Claims (6)
- An insulating terminal base of a connector comprising:a body (1) provided with a plural terminal grooves (10) for placing terminals (2) therein, said body (1) also provided with a clamping member circumference (13) for receiving a clamping member (3) therein for combining terminals (2) stably enough;terminals (2) placed in said terminal grooves (10);a clamping member (3) provided with an opening (30) to produce proper flexibility to open and close, said clamping member (3) also provided with plural curved surfaces (31) to correspond to the number of said terminals (2); andsaid terminals (2) positioned in said terminal grooves (10) and clamped by said clamping member (3) inserted in said clamping member circumference (13) with said curved surfaces tightly pressing said terminal surfaces so as to combine said terminals (2) with said body (1) completely and also to prevent said terminals (2) from loosening off or shifting; and wherein said terminal grooves (10) of said body (1) are provided with first grooves (10a), second grooves (10b) and position grooves (12), said first grooves (10a), said second grooves (10b) and said position grooves (12) having a length the same or not the same as those of terminal guiding holes (100) formed at one end of said first grooves (10a), said terminal guiding holes (100) formed in a front wall surface of said body (1) so as to guide an exterior male terminal to combine with said terminal in said insulating terminal base, said second grooves (10b) having another end being open,said position grooves (12) of said terminal grooves (10) in said body (1) are respectively provided with two small diameter sections (120, 121) and a large diameter section (122) set between said two small diameter sections (120, 121), said small diameter sections (120, 121) located higher than a bottom wall (103) of said terminal groove (10); said two small diameter sections (120, 121) have the same inner diameter, but the length the same or not the same; and said large diameter section (122) has an inner diameter larger than those of said small diameter sections (120, 121), and the same or larger than that of an inner diameter of said terminal groove (10), characterized in that said opening (30) of said clamping member (3) has a width smaller than the diameter of said clamping member (3) to enable said clamping member (3) to flexibly open or close properly; said clamping member (3) is provided with an edge hole (32) to correspond to a location of said position edge (130) of said clamping member circumference (13) of said body (1), so that mutual combination of said edge hole (32) with said position edge (130) of said clamping member circumference (13) of said body (1) can completely combine said body (1), said terminals (2) and said clamping member (3).
- The insulating terminal base of a connector as claimed in Claim 1, wherein said clamping member circumference (13) is formed recessed in a surface of said body (1) to correspond to wall thickness and shape of said clamping member (3); said clamping member circumference (13) is provided with two position edges (130) to fit with said edge holes (32) of said clamping member (3).
- The insulating terminal base of a connector as claimed in Claim 1, wherein said clamping member circumference (13) of said body (1) has a guiding face at two sides to combine with said clamping member (3) together.
- The insulating terminal base of a connector as claimed in Claim 1, wherein said terminals (2) are respectively provided with two small diameter sections (20) and a large diameter section (21), said small diameter sections (20, 21) have the same or not the same length, and said large diameter (22) has an outer diameter larger than those of said two small diameter sections (20, 21).
- The insulating terminal base of a connector as claimed in Claim 1, wherein said terminals (2) are firstly positioned in said terminal grooves (10) of said body (1) in assembling said insulating terminal base, next, said clamping member (32) is placed in said clamping member circumference (13) of said body (1) to let said curved surfaces (31) of said clamping member (3) tightly pressing the surface of said terminals (2), with said edge hole (32) of said clamping member (3) fitting with said position edge (130) of said clamping member circumference (13), thus combining together said body (1), said terminals (2) and said clamping member (3) as integral.
- An assembly comprising the insulating terminal base of a connector as claimed in Claim 1 and a flexible sleeve (5) placed around an outer surface of said insulating terminal base (A) of a connector, said flexible sleeve (5) is provided with a front circumference (50) and a rear circumference with a large diameter; said flexible sleeve is provided with plural long holes, said long holes have a curved circumference, which opens by means of said long holes said flexible sleeve is provided with an opening in order to open or close so as to change its outer diameter for convenience of installment and operation of said flexible sleeve.
