Definitions

  • the invention relates to a mechanism for displaying a timepiece whose movement makes it possible to drive a roadway at the free end of which is fixed an indicator member making one revolution per hour over a dial equipped with twelve or twenty-four indications.
  • watches with analog display give the indication of time by the movement of hands on a dial divided by a scale, by indexes or by any other sign of identification.
  • a small needle is usually used to indicate the hours and a large hand the minutes.
  • the attraction of a timepiece, and in particular a watch is often determined by its external appearance, given by a particular covering, a specific form. It often depends on the original character of the timepiece.
  • the document FR518196 discloses a time indicator comprising an outer ring and an inner ring.
  • the document CH694109 discloses a dial with minute indications cut in half.
  • the object of the invention is to provide a timepiece, in particular a mechanical watch, with an original time display providing an unusual and attractive effect.
  • Another object of the invention is to provide a watch with a display facilitating the reading of the time.
  • a display mechanism of the defined input type comprising an outer ring and an inner disk or ring, the outer ring carrying a first portion of each of the indicia and the disk or the inner ring carrying a second part of each of the indications
  • the mechanism comprising connecting means cinematically connecting the roadway with the outer ring and with the disk or the inner ring, said connecting means being arranged for, once an hour, rotating the outer ring and the inner disk or ring in opposite directions so that an indication, the first part of which coincides with the second part so as to form a readable indication, is visible through a reading desk to indicate the time.
  • the first part may be the upper half of an indication
  • the second part may be the lower half of an indication
  • said reading desk may be located at 12 o'clock relative to the timepiece case.
  • the connecting means may comprise a cam mounted on the road and read by a read finger located at a first end of a trigger rocker pivoting about an axis between an initial position and an extreme position under the effect of the rotation of the cam, said rocker being provided, at its opposite end, with a rack for rotating a rack pinion when, once an hour, the trigger rocker, after reaching its extreme position, returns to its position initial under the effect of recall means.
  • the rack and the rack pinion may be provided with Breguet shaped teeth so that the rack rotates the rack pinion only when the trigger rocker returns from its end position to its initial position.
  • the rack pinion can be integral with a gear wheel driving an outer gear and an inner gear.
  • the outer gear can mesh with an outer ring secured to the outer ring.
  • the inner gear can mesh with an inner ring secured to the disk or the inner ring.
  • the return means may consist of a spring consisting of an elastic tongue whose one end is fixed and the other end bears against the back of the reading finger.
  • the mechanism may include an inner ring jumper indexing the inner ring, when it is moved by the inner gear, by means of notches in the inner ring in which is housed the jumper.
  • the mechanism may comprise an external ring jumper indexing the outer ring, when it is set in motion by the outer pinion, by means of notches cut into the outer ring in which is housed the jumper.
  • the inner ring jumper can be kept in contact with the inner ring by means of a spring consisting of a tongue whose one end is fixed and the other end bears against the inner ring jumper.
  • the outer ring jumper can be kept in contact with the outer ring by means of a spring consisting of a tongue whose one end is fixed and the other end bears against the outer ring jumper.
  • the figure 1 illustrates a watch provided with the display mechanism according to the invention.
  • the watch comprises a watch case 1 in which is mounted a dial 2 bearing twelve time indications 3.
  • these hourly indications are Roman numerals ranging from "I" to "XII".
  • the dial is mounted on a floor indicator member, a needle 4, which performs a turn of the dial per hour to indicate the traditional way minutes.
  • the watch includes a winding crown disposed to the right of the watch case 1.
  • the dial 2 is divided into two parts: an outer ring 5 and an inner disk 6 mounted concentrically on the axis of the needle 4.
  • Each of the parts of the dial is rotatable about the axis of the needle 4.
  • the direction of rotation of each of the parts is however not the same. Indeed, the outer ring 5 rotates counterclockwise, as indicated by the arrow, while the inner disk rotates clockwise, the opposite being also possible.
  • Each of the indications 3 comprises in this embodiment an upper half 3 'and a lower half 3 ".
  • the lower half of each indication is carried by the inner disc 6 while the upper half of each indication is carried by the outer ring. 5.
  • An indication is legible only if its upper half is opposite the corresponding lower half, in other words the two halves of the indication coincide.
  • figure 1 the only visible indication on the dial of the watch which has the upper half which coincides with its lower half is that which is below a reading counter 7, the latter being at the position which traditionally marks noon on the dial an analog watch. This is the indication "XII". All other indications visible on the dial do not have the upper half which coincides with the lower half and are therefore illegible.
  • the reading window 7 is at any other time position.
  • the outer ring and the inner disk rotate an angle equal to 360 degrees divided by the number of indications, the outer ring 5 rotating in the opposite direction to that in which the inner disk 6 rotates.
  • the upper half of the indication under the reading window 7 is changed once an hour and it is the same for the lower half.
  • the only indication that is visible on the dial and readable is still under the reading window 7.
  • the reading of the time is therefore simply by reading the only readable indication which is that which is below the Reading desk 7. Reading the minutes is done in the traditional way using the minute hand according to its position on the dial.
  • the upper halves of the indicia are arranged on the outer ring in accordance with increasing sequence clockwise while the lower halves of the indications are arranged on the counterclockwise.
  • the outer ring is scanned clockwise, the upper half of the indication "I” precedes the upper half of the indication "II” which precedes the upper half of the indication. "III”, etc.
  • the inner disk it is the opposite situation. It is when the inner disc is scanned counterclockwise that the lower half of the "I” mark precedes the lower half of the "II” mark preceding the lower half of the "III” mark, etc. .
  • the figure 2 partially shows the display mechanism for rotating the outer ring 5 and the inner disk 6 once per hour to indicate the time below the reading window 7.
  • the movement of the watch has not been shown in the figure 2 . Only the floor 20, at the end of which is fixed the minute hand 4, is the visible part of the movement.
  • the invention uses a watch movement which can be any conventional mechanical movement with automatic or manual winding or electronic quartz type.
  • the display mechanism comprises a cam 21, also called snapper or instantaneous jump cam, mounted integral with the floor 20.
  • the cam 21 performs with the pavement a complete rotation every hour.
  • the contour of the cam 21 is traversed by a reading finger 22 located at a first end of a trigger rocker 23.
  • This rocker is pivotally mounted about a pivot 24 and a rocker spring 27, consisting of a tongue elastic whose one end is fixed and the other end bears against the back of the finger reading, prints a restoring force on the rocker.
  • a rack 25 which meshes with a rack pinion 26.
  • the rack 25 and the rack pinion 26 are provided with "Breguet" shaped teeth, or ratchet teeth, which are arranged to that the rack drives the rack pinion only in one direction and slides on the latter in the other direction.
  • the trigger rocker pivots between its initial position, which is that which is represented on the figure 2 , and its extreme position, which is the one reached when the reading finger is just before the recess of the cam 21.
  • the rack 25 slides on the rack pinion 26 with Breguet shaped teeth.
  • the reading finger encounters the recess 28 of the cam and loses contact therewith.
  • the trigger rocker spring 27 recalls the rocker 23 from its end position to its initial position and the rack, thanks to the Breguet-shaped teeth, causes in its movement the rack pinion 26.
  • the reading finger 22 then returns to contact with the cam 21 and the same reading process of the cam 21 by the reading finger 22 resumes.
  • the jump of the trigger rocker and the drive of the rack pinion occurs in a very short time interval, which allows, as will be described below, to change the position of the outer ring and the disc inside almost instantly at the beginning of each hour.
  • the rack pinion 26 is integral with a wheel 31 which meshes with an outer ring pinion 32, or outer pinion, and an inner ring pinion 33, or inner pinion.
  • the outer ring 34 which meshes with the outer ring pinion 32, is integral with the outer ring 5 of the dial, the latter being mounted thereon by means of screws which only the holes are shown on the figure 3 .
  • the inner ring 35 which meshes with the inner ring gear 33 is integral with the inner disk 6.
  • Each ring is mounted on a ball bearing allowing it to move in rotation almost without friction.
  • the outer pinion 32 is mounted outside the outer ring 34, the latter having a toothing on the outside.
  • the inner gear 33 is itself mounted inside the inner ring 35, the latter having a toothing on the inside.
  • the mechanism further comprises an outer ring jumper 36 and an inner ring jumper 37. These two jumpers are used to wedge each of the crowns after they have been set in motion by their respective pinion. These jumpers make it possible to be sure that at the end of each rotational movement, each of the crowns is locked in the desired position. Indeed, there may be a certain clearance between the various moving mobile with each rotation of the rack pinion and the jumpers help to facilitate the locking of the crowns in the correct position at each time change. In other words, the jumpers 36 and 37 index the crowns during rotations thereof.
  • Each of the jumpers is kept in contact with its respective ring by means of a spring consisting of an elastic tongue whose one end is fixed and the other end rests against the jumper.
  • a spring consisting of an elastic tongue whose one end is fixed and the other end rests against the jumper.
  • notches 40 in which are housed the jumpers 36, 37 after each rotational movement, are dug in each of the rings.
  • the inner disk may be replaced by a ring, for example to allow visualization of the mechanism of the watch. It will also be understood that the number of indications may be twelve or twenty-four, for example, to provide a display of 24-hour hours instead of twelve.
  • the direction of rotation of the outer ring and the inner disk can be reversed, the outer ring then rotating in the direction of clockwise while the inner disk rotates in the opposite direction of Clockwise.
  • the display mechanism according to the invention is not limited to wristwatches but can be adapted to various timepieces such as pocket watch, clocks or alarm clocks.
  • the display mechanism according to the invention makes it possible to increase the aesthetic appeal of the timepiece by providing an original display.
  • the display mechanism according to the invention facilitates the reading of the time because, of all the visible indications, only one is legible and allows to indicate the time. This indication is moreover always in the same place, below the reading window.
