Definitions
- the invention relates to a process for the continuous production of 2-butanone from 2,3-butanediol in hot high-pressure water with added electrolyte.
- 2-butanone is mainly used as a fuel additive and as a solvent for paints, plastics, resins, nitro and acetyl cellulose. Furthermore, it also serves for dewaxing of lubricating oils. A much lower proportion of 2-butanone is used as starting material for the preparation of methyl isopropenyl ketone, methyl, and ethyl amyl ketone. In the presence of hydrogen peroxide, methyl ethyl ketone is converted to methyl ethyl ketone peroxide, a polymerization initiator.
- 1,4-anhydroerythritol in water has the maximum yield of 55% at 360 ° C, 340 bar and with 988 ppm (gg "1 ) zinc sulfate
- the maximum yield of propionaldehyde achieved is 90%, starting from the 1,2-propanediol in near- and supercritical water, at 360 ° C, 340 bar, 120 s residence time and with
- the object of the invention is to provide a process which optimizes the continuous production of 2-butanone from 2,3-butanediol in hot high-pressure water with added electrolyte.
- the object is achieved by a process in which a mixture comprising 2,3-butanediol is reacted in hot high-pressure water to give 2-butanone, characterized in that a compound selected from the group Ce (S0 4 ) 2 , Fe 2 ( 2 ) is added as electrolyte additive. S0 4 ) 3 , A1 2 (S0 4 ) 3 is used.
- electrolyte in a concentration of 200-1100 ppm (gg "1 ) is used, iron sulfate preferably in a concentration of 200-800 ppm (gg '1 ) (0.5-2 mmol LT 1 ), more preferably 200 ppm (gg "1 ) (0.5 mmol LT 1 ), aluminum sulfate preferably in a concentration of 200-1064 ppm (gg " 1 ) (0.58-3.11 mmol L “1 ), particularly preferably 200 ppm (gg ").
- cerium sulfate is preferably used in a concentration of 800 ppm (gg "1 ) (2.41 mmol LT 1 ). Due to the formation of hydroxide, the reaction with iron and aluminum sulfate is preferably carried out in a solution having a pH ⁇ 7, more preferably a 5% (gg "1 ) acetic acid solution, while cerium sulfate is preferably used as a solution in water a solution of 0.5-20% (gg "1 ) or 0.056-2.22 mol L " 1 2,3-butanediol in water is used 2,3,3-butanediol is present in three stereoisomers that are biochemically different from each other
- the two enantiomers (R, R) - and (S, S) -2,3-butanediol and a meso form (R, S) -2,3-butanediol are preferably used in the process
- the reaction takes place under conditions in which hot high-pressure water is present. It is preferably a temperature of 300 ° C to 400 ° C, more preferably 320 ° C, and a pressure of preferably 300 to 400 bar, more preferably 340 bar.
- the reaction time is preferably 5-200 s.
- a dehydration of 2,3-butanediol in near- and supercritical water (high-pressure water) is advantageous because a biochemically prepared dilute aqueous butanediol solution can be converted directly to the 2-butanone in a high-pressure apparatus without prior removal of water.
- Particularly advantageous in the reaction in near- and supercritical water is that in the workup no additional neutralization is necessary.
- Aluminum sulphate like ferrous sulphate, is ecologically harmless in comparison with zinc and nickel sulphate according to the hazardous substance classification.
- the increased activity of the iron or aluminum sulfate can be seen from FIG. 8.
- the yields of isobutyraldehyde also correspond to those with the addition of zinc sulfate.
- Ce (S0 4 ) 2 , Fe 2 (S0) 3 and / or A1 2 (S0) in the conversion of 2,3-butanediol to 2-butanone have an increased activity compared to zinc sulfate or nickel sulfate and therefore allow better space-time yields than zinc sulfate or nickel sulfate.
- Fig. 1 shows a flow chart of the equipment used in the examples.
- Fig. 4 shows the conversion of rac ⁇ meso-2, 3-butanediol as a function of the residence time without and with the addition of 200 - 800 ppm (gg “1 ) Fe 2 (S0 4 ) 3 at 320 ° C and 34 MPa from Ex 2.
- Fig. 5 shows the yield of 2-butanone as a function of the residence time without and with addition of 200-800 ppm (vs. "1 )
- Fig. 8 shows the conversion of rac-meso-2, 3-butanediol at 320 ° C and bar (gg "1) as a function of residence time with the addition of 200 ppm 340 A1 2 (S0 4) 3, 200 ppm (gg _1 ) Fe 2 (S0 4 ) 3 , 800 ppm (gg "1 ) Ce (S0) 2 and 800 ppm (gg " 1 ) ZnS0 from Example 4.
- Fig. 9 shows the yield. 2-butanone at 320 ° C and 340 bar depending on the residence time with the addition of 200 ppm (gg “1 ) A1 2 (S0 4 ) 3 , 200 ppm (gg “ 1 ) Fe 2 (S0 4 ) 3 , 800 ppm ( gg “1 ) Ce (S0 4 ) 2 and 800 ppm (gg " 1 ) ZnS0 4 from Ex. 4.
- Fig. 10 shows the yield based. Isobutyraldehyde at 320 ° C and 340 bar (gg '1) as a function of residence time with the addition of 200 ppm A1 2 (S0 4) 3, 200 ppm (gg _1) Fe 2 (S0 4) 3 , 800 ppm (gg "1 )
- Continuous stirred tank reactor (5) (Inconel 625, material number 2.4856), which was embedded in an aluminum block (6). This was electrically heated by means of 5 heating cartridges, each with 400 W; the temperature was controlled by a controller with two thermocouples (7, 8), one of which (7) measured the temperature of the solution in the reactor. A second thermocouple (8) was located in the outer aluminum block (6). The volume of the stirred tank reactor (4) was 5 cm 3 .

Description
®
Can. J. Res. B 1946-1947, 24-25, 80 ff) und Nafion -H (I. Buc- si, A . Molnär, M. Bartök, Tetrahedron 1994, 50, 27, 8195 ff) verwendet. Bei der homogen katalysierten Dehydratisierung wurden Schwefelsäure (A. C. Neish, V. C. Haskell, F. J. MacDonald, Can. J. Res. B 1945, 23, 281 ff) oder Phosphorsäure (E. R. Alexander, D.C. Dittmer, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1951, 73, 1665 ff) eingesetzt. Bucsi erreichte ebenfalls heterogen katalysiert an Nafion°-H-
0,056-2,22 mol L"1 2,3-Butan- diol in Wasser eingesetzt.

Eisensulfat (0,58 bzw 0,5 mmol LT1) in 5 % (g g"1) Essigsäurelösung verwendet.
