Description
- The present invention relates to a dishwashing machine with an innovative system for the distribution of washing water onto the items to be washed.
- Dishwashers are machines designed to wash, rinse and sometimes dry various items such as plates, pans and other kitchen furnishings. They usually comprise a body defining a washing chamber open on one side, a closing door sealing the open side of said chamber, and inside this chamber, one or more superimposed racks to receive and sustain the items to be washed.
- Some dishwashers have two separate washing areas with a different supply of hot water and detergent, i.e. one area for fragile dishes and another area for pans and kitchenware.
- Usually dishwashers offer several work programmes which differ in both the temperature of the used water and the duration of the washing cycle.
- For example, documents
US 3718149 ,EP 1752081 andEP 1933689 are representative of the state of the art. - In every case, the operation of a dishwasher is based on a system for a forced distribution of water onto the items to be washed, which water is either mixed with a detergent for a washing step, and used alone for a rinsing step of the items.
- According to a general pattern, the items to be washed are arranged in racks within the machine's washing chamber, and the washing water is delivered onto the items through spray nozzles facing substantially vertically, from the bottom upwards and/or from the top downwards. The spray nozzles can also be carried by rotating arms and, however, since they are supplied with a flow of water at a relatively low pressure, their sprays of water directed onto these items are relatively soft and intended to distribute and emulsify the detergent in a first washing step, and to remove and carry away the residual detergent from the items in a second washing step. In practice, the degreasing and removal of the dirt from the surfaces of the items is essentially achieved by the action of the detergent; the water serves substantially to distribute the detergent and evacuate the substances removed from the surfaces which are washed from time to time.
- Furthermore, in traditional dishwashers, the distribution of washing water through the spray nozzles is generally performed in the same way onto all the items arranged on the racks, with no possibility of either saving water and least of all distinguishing those items which, perhaps dirtier, would require even a dedicated and more intensive wash.
- Documents
EP 2039280 A2 ,US 4,134,414 A ,US 5,427,129 A ,US 3,598,130 A ,US 2,392,540 andDE 196 24 891 A1 each discloses a dishwashing machine according to the preamble of claim 1. Such a dishwasher comprises a body casing defining a washing chamber with an access opening provided with a closing door, supporting means able to receive and sustain items to be washed, pipes for supply and distribution of washing and rinsing water onto the items and a system for programming and setting different working cycles of the dishwashing machine, whereby the pipes for supply and distribution of washing and rinsing water onto the items disposed on the supporting means are guided and shiftable heighwise in relation to the items. - One object of the present invention is to provide a dishwashing machine which can also keep the configuration and general dimensions of direct and deeper treatment of the surfaces of the items to be washed, moreover with the advantages of a saving of water and detergent and a reduction in the duration of the washing cycles.
- Another object of the invention is to propose a dishwasher in which the washing water is used as pressurised jets in order to advantageously exert an intense action by itself, which can also be defined as a "mechanical" action, to remove the toughest dirt from the surfaces of the items to be washed, thereby making it possible to minimise the amount of detergent required for degreasing.
- Another object of the invention is to propose a dishwasher incorporating an original water distribution system configured and managed to enable also targeted and selective washes of the dirtiest surfaces of the items to be washed.
- A further object of the invention is to provide a dishwasher which is also equipped for air-drying the items once washed.
- These objects and advantages are achieved by a dishwasher according to claim 1.
- In such a dishwasher, the nozzles generating the jets of pressurised water are carried by pipes that extend and can be moved between rows of dishes and relative to a surface or grid carrying pans and similar containers.
- Also, in an area of the washing chamber where the pans to be washed are located, the nozzles generating the jets of pressurised water can be rotated at the level of each item.
- The result is a more intense washing of the items by the jets of pressurised water, which washing, furthermore, can also be localised and targeted onto some items more than onto others through an appropriate programming of the working cycles of the machine and supply of water to the nozzles.
- However, further details of the invention will be better understood from the following description made with reference to the accompanying drawings, given by way of a non-limiting example, in which:

Fig. 6 shows schematically a variation in the distribution of the washing water compared to that shown inFigs. 2-5 . - As shown, the
dishwasher 10 comprises a machine body orcasing 11 delimiting awashing chamber 12 accessible through an opening that is sealingly closed by adoor 13. In thewashing chamber 12 there are mounted means which are sliding/removable towards the access opening, comprisingsupports 14 designed to receive and support thedishes 15 and at least one surface orgrid 16 on which the pans orother containers 17 to be washed are rested. Thedoor 13 itself may be provided with a transparent window 13' in order to see inside the machine. - The
supports 14 for thedishes 15 can be arranged so as to be able to sustain the dishes vertically, arranged in rows and on one or more levels depthwise in thewashing chamber 12, and disposed individually in a parallely spaced apart relationship, as shown inFig. 2 . - Alternatively, the
supports 14 for the dishes can also be configured to sustain, also vertically, pairs ofdishes 15 arranged in a back-to-back relationship, i.e. with their fronts facing in opposite directions as shown in the other figures. Preferably, the surface orgrid 16 for pans and/orother containers 17 in thewashing chamber 12 is arranged beneath thesupports 14 for the dishes. - In the bottom part of its
body 11, the dishwasher will have acompartment 18 designed to contain, although not shown, a tub for the washing water and a device for heating and distributing the water inside the washing chamber. Although not shown, the door can be provided with means for loading the washing detergent, a programming system, etc. - According to an embodiment of the invention, as shown in
Figs. 2-5 , the distribution of the water onto the items to be washed is achieved by means of preferablyhorizontal water pipes 20 extending at the level of the rows ofdishes 15, and at least oneother water pipe 21 positioned in relation to the surface orgrid 16 carrying the pans orcontainers 17, saidpipes nozzles 22 to deliver jets of pressurised water directed onto the respective items to be washed, substantially in a perpendicular direction. - Particularly, the
distribution pipes 20 at the level of the rows ofdishes 15 extend transversely into thewashing chamber 12, each between two adjacent dishes on each row as shown inFig. 2 , or between adjacent pairs of dishes as shown inFigs. 3-5 . Thesepipes 20 are also moveable, heightwise in the case shown, according to the arrows F, so that the jets of water exiting theirnozzles 22 progressively cover the entire surface of the items to be washed. - For their heightwise movements, the
pipes 20 will be conveniently guided and controlled along the side walls of themachine body 11, as well as connected at their inlet to suitable hoses for enabling the desired movements of said pipes. - For example, if there are three
dishes 15 in each row, it will be possible to have threedistribution pipes 20 with theirrespective nozzles 22 facing towards the front of the dishes, and a possible fourth pipe having respective nozzles facing towards the back of the dish lying behind, as shown inFig. 2 . If there are three pairs ofdishes 15 in each row, there can be four distribution pipes with their respective nozzles facing towards the front of all the dishes, as shown inFigs. 3-5 , and in this case, it is also possible to provide pipes and jets of water - not shown - for washing the backs of the paired dishes. - As for the surface or
grid 16 for the rest of the pans and/orcontainers 17, the at least onepipe 21 associated therewith is guided and shiftable horizontally according to the G arrows, parallel to said surface or grid and with therelative nozzles 23 facing upwards. - If required, at the top of the washing chamber, there may also be provided nozzles - not shown - for generating jets of water from the top downwards onto and between the items to be treated.
- In a further embodiment of the invention, as shown in
Fig. 6 , the distribution of the washing water at least at the level of thedishes 20 can be carried out by means of asystem 121 with one ormore nozzles 122 that can rotate around an axis, these nozzles also facing towards the dishes in a substantially perpendicular direction without affecting the arrangement thereof. - In each case, the pressure of the jets of washing water delivered either through the
nozzles distribution pipes nozzles 122 may be adjusted depending on the dirt to be removed from the items, and therefore on the strength of the washing to be performed. Approximately, the pressure of the water may be in the range from 2 to 5 bar. Clearly, the higher the pressure of the jets of water, the more effective in itself will be the "mechanical" action of the water on the surfaces to be washed, which effectiveness, however, will be assisted and further enhanced by the cleansing action of the detergent delivered each time with the washing water. - As a whole, therefore, when the water at the height of the dishes is distributed through the
pipes 20 by thenozzles 22, all these pipes will be able to be moved in a simultaneous or synchronous manner, or some pipes will be moved in an independent and/or staggered manner with respect to the others, in order to achieve a selective and differentiated washing of the items. Furthermore, it will be possible also to rotate at least some of the nozzles of eachwater distribution pipe nozzles more distribution pipes - Similarly, even when the washing water is distributed through
rotatable nozzles 122, these can all be supplied with water simultaneously or selectively depending on the location and quantity of the items to be treated. - In practice, the above described machine can be programmed and managed electronically in order to perform the more usual operations of a washing and rinsing cycle of the items to be treated with an appropriate supply of detergent-containing water and clean water.
- As for the washing step, the programming of the machine may also be designed so that the jets of pressurised water remain directed at, dwell upon and are moved longer on those areas supposed to be the dirtiest areas of the items to be washed.
- In fact, this aspect of a targeted treatment of the items can be achieved with a localised supply of jets of water to be controlled, manually or automatically, by selecting the position, number, pressure and movements of the jets of water operating from time to time.
- In addition, the
washing chamber 12 of the machine can be divided and virtually mapped into several areas, possibly shown and visible on the window of the door, and the jets of water can be programmed and managed from time to time by limiting their number and activating them only in one or some specific areas of the washing chamber, excluding others. This can be done to target the area occupied by certain items requiring a more intense and deeper wash than others in any area of the chamber, advantageously whenever and wherever to avoid any unnecessary waste of detergent-containing water, rinsing water and energy. - After the washing and rinsing operations, which may be preceded by more intense and localised washes, the items can be dried in the same machine using a supply of hot air from a relative generator, and possibly with the aid of an electric heater placed in the treatment chamber. The drying air can be delivered and distributed in the treatment chamber by means of adapted fixed or shiftable outlets which can be independent or connected to spraying pipes. In this regard, at least part of the rinsing water can be kept in the machine's tub, and the drying air can be caused to lap this water in order, on one hand, to encourage the condensation of the humidity carried by the air, and on the other hand, to pre-heat the water that can be re-used later for another washing cycle.
Claims (12)
- Dishwashing machine comprising:- a body or casing (11) defining a washing chamber (12) with an access opening provided with a closing door,- supporting means (14) in said chamber to receive and sustain the items to be washed and comprising rows of support (14) at a first level of the washing chamber (12) in order to sustain parallely-spaced dishes,- pipes (20, 21) for supply and distribution of washing and rinsing water onto said items disposed on the supporting means in said chamber,- wherein the pipes (20, 21) for the distribution of the washing and rinsing water are provided with nozzles (22, 122, 23) to deliver jets of pressurized water which are substantially directed in directions perpendicular to the surfaces of the items to be washed and shiftable in relation to said surfaces, and further comprising- a system for programming and setting different working cycles of the machine,in which said pipes (20, 21) for the distribution of washing and rinsing water onto the items disposed on said supporting means (14) are guided and shiftable, at least heightwise in relation to said items,
characterized in that
it further comprises at least one surface or grid (16) at a second level of said washing chamber (12) in order to sustain pans or containers, and in that
said pipes include first pipes (20) associated with said rows of supports (14) and shiftable heightwise within the washing chamber between said rows of supports, and at least one additional pipe (21) associated with said surface or grid (16) and shiftable at least horizontally, - Dishwashing machine according to claim 1, wherein said first pipes (20) are provided with several series of nozzles (22, 122) generating substantially horizontal jets of washing and rinsing water, and said at least one additional pipe (21) is provided with nozzles generating substantially vertical jets of washing and rinsing water.
- Dishwashing machine according to one of claims 1 or 2, wherein the supports in said rows of supports (14) are configured to sustain the dishes individually, in a parallely spaced apart relationship.
- Dishwashing machine according to claims 1 or 2, wherein the supports in said rows of supports (14) are configured to sustain pairs of parallely-spaced dishes arranged in a back-to-back relationship.
- Dishwashing machine according to one of the preceding claims, wherein each pipe (20, 21) for the distribution of washing and rinsing water comprises groups of spray nozzles (22, 23) to be used selectively or simultaneously.
- Dishwashing machine according to claim 5, wherein at least one or more of the nozzles (22, 23) carried by said pipes (20, 21) are rotatable.
- Dishwashing machine according to claim 5 or 6, wherein said nozzles (22, 23) are fixed or capable of rotating around an axis.
- Dishwashing machine according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein said pipes are all movable in a simultaneous or synchronous manner, or some pipes can be activated in an independent and/or staggered manner with respect to others.
- Dishwashing machine according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein controlling means are provided to direct and cause to dwell selectively at least some water jets upon some parts of the items to be washed.
- Dishwashing machine according to any one of the preceding claims, further comprising means to programme various operating cycles of the machine by choosing the number and movements of the sprays and the pressure of the washing water.
