Definitions
- the invention relates to a method for producing a carbon brush in a commutator for power transmission in an electrical machine.
- Commutators are used in electric motors for power transmission to the armature rotatably mounted in a stator and for current application in short-circuited armature coils.
- the commutators consist of an armature-side collector and housing-fixed carbon brushes, which bear against the lateral surface of the rotating collector.
- a carbon brush for a small engine which consists of a graphite powder, which is mixed with metal powder, compression-molded and then sintered.
- Such carbon brushes is added as metal content, for example copper.
- the collector and the carbon brushes are subject to wear during operation.
- the amount of wear must be designed according to the intended use. For example, electric starter motors in internal combustion engines are subject to relatively high loads and must ensure a high number of switching cycles without restricting functionality. Due to the long service life of the carbon brushes, care must be taken to ensure that removed material as well as a lubricating film built up on the collector are cleaned automatically. For an ideal cleaning of the surface, different substances can be mixed into the carbon brushes, which ensure that the surface of the collector has a consistent, clean and at the same time lubricating surface. It should be noted, however, that in particular carbon brushes From a sintered material by design, a relatively large number of pores, through which the material is exposed to increased environmental influences, which can lead to material changes, in particular an increase in the electrical resistance of the carbon brushes.
- the invention is based on the object to design carbon brushes in commutators with simple measures for a long service life.
- the inventive method is used for producing a carbon brush in a commutator for power transmission in an electrical machine.
- an application to electric starters for internal combustion engines into consideration which are designed system-based on a large number of start cycles.
- proper functioning of the commutator must be ensured over a long period of operation.
- an anticipation of the change in the properties is achieved by the inventive method before the use of carbon brushes in the commutator until an at least approximately constant property level is reached and in use in the commutator no further, significant change in the carbon brushes is to be expected.
- the process according to the invention thus anticipates the normal aging of the carbon brushes to a higher internal resistance. The performance characteristics of the electric machine in which the carbon brush is used, therefore no longer undergo significant change over the operating period.
- Another advantage of anticipating aging effects in the carbon brushes is the reduction of changes in the resistance system of the electric motor. If, for example, a starter is used in an electrical system of a motor vehicle, the anticipated aging of the carbon brushes also anticipates the increase in the specific resistance in the carbon brushes, with the result that the maximum retrieved current intensity is reduced by the starter, as a result of which the load on the carbon brushes is also reduced On-board network is reduced when switching on the starter. This is particularly advantageous for start-stop systems in vehicles in which low loads of the starter for the electrical system are required.
- the artificial aging process to which the carbon brushes are subjected prior to the assembly of the commutator takes place according to the invention by a storage of the carbon brushes for a defined period of time at elevated temperature.
- the carbon brushes are preferably stored in a temperature range between 120 ° and 280 °, wherein the storage period is preferably for a period of 24 h to 250 h.
- the moisture can be taken into account during storage, with higher humidity the temperatures can be reduced.
- the temperature is 42 ° and the relative humidity is 92%.
- storage takes place, for example, at 200 ° C. for 150 h.
- the proportion of the copper oxide increases significantly by the anticipated aging, for example, about three times the original value, which can be determined in the carbon brush, which has been subjected to storage, by appropriate investigations.
- copper oxide increases from, for example, 1.1% to 2.9%.
- both an equal distribution of the proportion of copper oxide and an uneven distribution come into consideration, in particular an increased proportion of the copper oxide in the region of the surface of the carbon brush with decreasing proportion towards the center of the carbon brush.
- the specific electrical resistance of the carbon brush increases, for example, from an initial value range of 0.5 ⁇ Ohm * m to 0.9 ⁇ Ohm * m to a final or target value range of 1.1 ⁇ Ohm * m to 1.5 ⁇ Ohm * m.
- This specific electrical resistance which the carbon brush has after performing the artificial aging, does not increase significantly in the course of the use of the carbon brush in the electric motor, so that no further change in the electrical properties of the carbon brush is to be expected.
- not only the electrical properties but also the mechanical properties of the carbon brush are changed by the storage so that the greatest proportion of the change in the mechanical properties is anticipated by the artificial aging process, so that the mechanical properties are no longer significant in operation to change.
- the increase in electrical resistivity can be measured and used to identify a carbon brush pretreated in the inventive manner.
- commutator 1 is used for power transmission and current application in electrical machines such as electric motors or generators and is preferably used in starters for internal combustion engines.
- Such starters are designed for a high number of starting operations, in particular in the case of motor vehicles, which are equipped with start-stop systems for automatically switching off and on the internal combustion engine.
- the commutator 1 comprises a cylindrical collector 2 which is rotatably connected to the armature of the electric machine, wherein the armature is rotatably mounted in a stator.
- the commutator 1 further comprises carbon brushes 3, which abut in the embodiment shown diametrically opposite to the radially outer surface of the cylindrical collector 2 and a disc running surface on contact and transmit the electric current to the collector 2, which via a strand 4 in the respective Carbon brush 3 is passed.
- the collector 2 can also be designed as a disc.
- the collector 2 has a plurality of circumferentially separated segments 5, which are each electrically connected to armature coils. During a rotational movement of the armature and the collector 2 in the direction of rotation 6, the lateral surface of the collector slides along the facing end face of the carbon brushes 3, at the same time the power transmission from the carbon brushes 3 takes place on the segments 5 of the collector. 2
- the carbon brushes 3 are subjected to anticipated aging to ensure that no aging effects during operation lead to a change in the commutator system.
- the anticipated aging of the carbon brushes takes place prior to installation in the commutator, by the carbon brushes, which are usually constructed as sintered components made of graphite and copper components, subjected to an artificial aging process in which the carbon brushes are stored for a defined period of time at elevated temperature.
- the storage takes place for example in a temperature range between 120 ° and 280 ° and over a period of, for example, 24 h to 250 h, wherein in the case of a lower temperature, a longer storage and in the case of a higher temperature a shorter storage time is performed.
- a wet storage of the carbon brushes to produce an artificial aging process, for example in a temperature range between 30 ° and 70 ° for a period of 24 h to 160 h and at a relative Humidity from 70% to 95%. With higher relative humidity, generally lower temperatures are sufficient. For example, with a relative humidity of 92%, a storage temperature of 42 ° can be selected.
- the copper components in the carbon brushes are oxidized, so that the copper oxide content increases significantly.
- the increase is, for example, from 1.1% to 2.9%.
- the specific electrical resistance is increased by the artificial aging of a value range of, for example, 0.5 ⁇ Ohm * m to 0.9 ⁇ Ohm * m to a range of values after performing the artificial aging, for example, 1.1 ⁇ Ohm * m to 1.5 ⁇ Ohm * m.
