Definitions

  • the invention relates to a device for labelling cables. More precisely the invention relates to a slidable device capable of being marked with a labelling part for labelling cables.
  • the cables When laying cables, whether to create an electrical installation or equally to set up a computer network, it is necessary to label a variety of cables in order to assign them to their respective connection points. It would be beneficial if the cables could be labelled not only with characters, but also be provided with information encoded in 2-D in particular in light of allowing to be read automatically. It may also be of interest that the labels can be moved along the respective cables so a label can be brought into a conveniently accessible position from an unreachable or difficult-to-reach or read place or position.
  • the object of the invention is therefore to provide a slidable cable label that does no damage to the cable when slid, has a frictional engagement with the cable so as to allow it to be set at a defined height or for providing highly legible surfaces.
  • a device that has a clamping part with a receiving portion and a reclosable cover.
  • the clamping part in the closed state provides an at least partially circumferential surface that is intended to accept a labelling part.
  • the closed device forms a frictional connection with the inserted cable.
  • a device that can be moved on the cable can be effectively recorded using a scanner, since it can be more easily moved into the scanning range and then moved back to a location where the space may be less restricted than in the scanning range.
  • the reclosable cover can be connected to the receiving portion on one side to form a hinged connection or if necessary be separate from it. In the case of a hinge-like linkage, it can be effectively ensured that no parts can become lost.
  • the detachable connection which is necessary for re-closure of the clamping part, can be achieved by an appropriate design of the connection zones of the respective parts to achieve a positive connection of the parts in the closed state of the clamping part.
  • this positive connection can be secured with a labelling part, which is glued over the corresponding point or fastened in other ways in the course of labelling.
  • the invention may contain an additional frictional element that is formed with or incorporated into the clamping part, or attached to or formed with the cable, or may be a combination of these characteristics.
  • the invention can include a device in which the friction element is connected to the clamping part so that the frictional element cannot be pushed out of the clamping part when moved along the cable.
  • formed protrusions for example can be provided perpendicular to the direction of movement. They can provide the end of the device and seal it or lie inside of it.
  • the invention can include a device in which a frictional element is provided to be connected to the cable inserted into the device in order to clamp the clamping part and thus the device at a particular point on the cable or to increase the frictional resistance when sliding movement is preformed.
  • the invention can include a device in which the clamping part is held in its closed state by a positive connection.
  • a detachable connection of the cover with the receiving portion can be achieved and the clamping part is by these means recyclable/reusable.
  • Positive connections may be in the form of clips or engaging elements.
  • the invention can include a device in which the clamping part consists of a cable duct segment and as such can be produced inexpensively and easily and quickly.
  • a curved duct segment could be provided in addition to a straight duct segment, so that in each case local kink protection could be available.
  • the invention can include a device in which a frictional force between the device and cable is set to be greater than the weight force of the device itself and the device on a sloping cable cannot start to slide of its own accord.
  • the invention can include a device in which the frictional force between the device and cable is set to be greater than the weight force of the cable itself and therefore the device can be used to receive the cable and move it, without a risk in the device position changing on the cable.
  • the invention can include a device in which the frictional element is made from semi-finished products of materials including foam and silicone tubing, with or without adhesive on them.
  • the invention can include a device in which the labelling part secures the closed clamping part in its closed condition, and so acts as both a seal and additional protection. Furthermore, with this method only the labelling part needs to be replaced upon reuse.
  • Figure 1 shows a perspective view of an embodiment of the invention in the open state.
  • Figure 2 shows a perspective view of a further embodiment of the invention in the open state.
  • Figure 3 shows a perspective view of the open clamping part.
  • Figure 4 shows a perspective view of the closed and labelled device on a cable.
  • a clamping part 20 includes a receiving portion 21, two connecting portions 23 and 24 and a cover 22.
  • the cover 22 is releasable with the help of the connecting portions 23 and 24 and can be positively connected with the receiving portion 21. If the cover 22 and the receiving portion 21 are connected by the connecting portions 23 and 24, the clamping part 20 is in its closed state.
  • the clamping part 20 contains a frictional element 30, which is held in place by an adhesive.
  • the frictional element 30 consists of a suitable hose segment, which preferably is shorter in length than the clamping part 20. However, it may equally well be as long as or longer and thus protrude out of the clamping part.
  • the clamping part 20 corresponds to the description given above and is therefore not considered further.
  • the clamping part 20 contains a frictional element 31 that consists of a foam segment, which is glued into the clamping part 20.
  • the frictional element 31 is of a different shape (angular) to the frictional element 30 (round) of the above description.
  • frictional elements of a different size and shape can allow a variety of cables 50 of different diameters to be used with a clamping part 20 of a constant dimension.
  • the frictional element is used to adapt the device to different cable diameters.
  • Setting the frictional characteristic between a cable 50 and the device can either be through selecting the clamping part 20 appropriate to the cable dimension, which provides the desired frictional characteristic, or by selecting a suitable frictional element.
  • the ability to set the frictional characteristic is relevant to the ability to slide the device 10 on the cable 50, as it can be set so that the device 10 cannot slip due to its own weight along a sloping cable 50. Also, in the case of the installation of supplied pre-assembled cables, this enables the cable 50 to be recognised and pulled out from a possible cluster of cables by the device 10.
  • the clamping part 20 is now explained with reference to Figure 3 .
  • the illustrated clamping part 20 has the receiving portion 21, the cover 22, the connecting portions 23 and 24 and a movable portion 25.
  • the movable portion 25 connects the receiving portion 21 with the cover 22 in a hinge-like manner on one side of the clamping part 20. If the clamping part 20 is closed, the connecting portions 23 and 24 engage with one another and a circumferential surface is created on which labelling can take place. It is also possible, instead of the movable portion 25, to have a further pair of connecting portions in order to be able to remove the cover 22 completely from the receiving portion 21. On the other hand, if the two pairs of connecting portions are then engaged with each other a circumferential surface is created on which labelling can take place.
  • Figure 4 shows the device 10 in closed state around a cable 50 with a labelling part 60.
  • the two connecting portions 23 and 24 are positively connected to each other and this connection is secured additionally by the labelling part 60.
  • the device 10 can be removed only if the labelling part 60 is destroyed. Therefore, the device 10 can also serve as a kind of seal.
  • the labelling part 60 has both characters and a 2-D code. Especially for these codes, it is expedient to select their size such that they are fully depicted on one of the peripheral faces for ease of scanning. In conjunction with scanners that can detect such codes, the ability to slide is particularly advantageous because the device 10 can be brought into a place where it can be easily detected by a scanner.
