Abstract

A phosphate removal medium (200) comprising clay (201) naturally or synthetically infused with iron oxide and suitable to treat and remove phosphate from waste water and in particular a pre-treated sewage treatment liquor as part of a final sewage processing operation. The treatment medium may be accommodated within filters and filter cartridges for the convenient installation within a sewage treatment process. Additionally, the phosphate removal medium may be incorporated within a modular reed bed.
