Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method for the detection of vehicles with trailers in the context of a road toll system, which comprises at least one radio beacon for radio communication with radio OBUs.
- Road toll systems for tolling vehicles with the aid of roadside radio beacons which communicate with vehicle-side onboard units or OBUs in order to identify and locate them, are known in various designs. It is often necessary to detect the presence of a trailer, because this determines the height of the toll. In the known systems to either the number of axles is determined in order to close on a trailer with a trailer from a certain number of axles, or the presence of a trailer must be set by the user himself to the OBU of the vehicle.
- the former requires complex systems for axle counting, such as laser scanners or induction loops in the road, the latter is prone to error and manipulation.
- the invention has for its object to provide a method for the detection of vehicles with trailers, which is simpler and safer than the known solutions.
- This object is achieved with a method of the type mentioned above, which is characterized in that vehicles and trailers each own, entrained by these OBUs are assigned, and that a vehicle and a trailer are detected as belonging to each other when an evaluation of the radio communications with their OBUs show that they move with limited and constant mutual distance.
- the invention is based on the new approach of providing dedicated trailer OBUs and detecting them as belonging to a particular vehicle OBU based on an evaluation of the usual radio communication between radio beacons and OBUs. Based on this detection can then, for example, in a central system belonging to the trailer OBU trailer account assigned to a vehicle OBU vehicle account, so that on the one hand the trailer is not vermautet as a separate vehicle and on the other hand, the vehicle can be tolled as equipped with a trailer.
- This represents a surprisingly simple way of detecting vehicles with trailers, which requires neither complex axle counting nor error-prone user input to an OBU. Since OBUs are low-cost mass-produced items, the dual OBU equipment for vehicles and trailers is not significantly significant compared to the known axle counting systems and given the tamper security that can be achieved by eliminating user input.
- the method of the invention does not require any special positioning of the trailer OBU within a trailer and trailer truck.
- the trailer OBU can be mounted both in the trailer itself and in the towing vehicle.
- the vehicle OBU and the trailer OBU are both arranged side by side in the vehicle, e.g. right next to each other on the windshield.
- Said distance measurement or localization by means of radio communication can be carried out in any manner known in the art.
- the phase shift between the two radio communications for distance measurement of the OBUs is preferably used for this purpose.
- the amplitude difference and / or the Doppler shifts of the two radio communications can be used to measure the movements of the OBUs. In this case, only radio communications within a predetermined time window are preferably taken into account in order to increase the evaluation reliability.
- the method of the invention is particularly suitable for dedicated short range communication (DSRC) standard road toll systems in all different technological embodiments, eg, infrared, microwave at 5.8 GHz or 5.9 GHz, etc.
- the radio beacons are preferably DSRC -Funkbaken and the OBUs preferably DSRC-OBUS, more preferably infrared or microwave based.
- Said evaluation of the radio communications can be both centrally in a central system and decentralized in a radio beacon or a e.g. for several radio beacons provided local control of the road toll system.
- toll accounts corresponding to the OBUs can then be allocated to one another in the central system and / or the radio beacons.
- the vehicle OBU and the trailer OBU are loaded in parallel, or, more preferably, only the toll account of the vehicle OBU.
- trailer OBUs are looted as separate vehicles, and on the other hand be ensured that the vehicle toll account is charged with a trailer toll.
- Fig. 1 a block diagram of the components used in the process of the invention shows.
- a lorry 1 moves from a vehicle 2 and a trailer 3 on a road 4 as part of a road-tolling system 5, which charges (tolls) the road use.
- the road toll system 5 includes a plurality of roadside radio beacons 6 which may be in short range radio communications 7, 8 with radio OBUs (onboard units) 9, 10 carried by the truck 1.
- the radio communications 7, 8 are preferably carried out according to the DSCR standard.
- the radio beacons 6 Due to the known location of the radio beacons 6 and the limited range of their radio communications 7, 8, the OBUs 9, 10 located on the respective radio coverage areas of the radio beacons 6 and so the use of the road 4 are charged.
- the radio beacons 6 are also in data connection with a central system 11, which has 12 toll accounts (OBU accounts) 13, 14 for the OBUs 9, 10 in a database leads.
- the toll accounts can also be run locally, eg in computers on site at or in the radio beacons. 6
- the OBUs 9, 10 may be of self-locating type, for example with the aid of a built-in satellite navigation receiver, and transmit their positions to the radio beacons 6 via the radio communications 7, 8.
- the radio communications 7, 8 need not be of locally limited range and could e.g. Cellular connections and the radio beacons 6 base stations of a mobile network, as known in the art.
- the vehicle 2 and the trailer 3 each have their own OBU 9, 10 assigned. Accordingly, there are also separate vehicle accounts 13 for vehicle OBUs 9 and own trailer accounts 14 for trailer OBUs 10 in the database 12 of the central system 11 or the decentralized computer.
- the trailer OBUs 10 can be mounted both in the trailer 3 itself and in the vehicle 2, e.g. directly next to the vehicle OBU 9 on the windshield of the driver's cab of the vehicle 2, are mounted.
- the phase shift between the radio communications 7, 8 can be used for distance measurement of the OBUs 9, 10 and, if this distance is less than a predetermined maximum distance and does not change significantly over an observation period in the coverage area of a radio beacon 6, on an associated pair of Vehicle OBU 9 and trailer OBU 10 are closed.
- the Doppler shift in the radio communications 7, 8 could be measured and from this the movement of the OBUs 9, 10 can be determined; if this is done in the same direction and same speed, can be closed again to an associated pair of OBUs 9, 10.
- the associated vehicle and trailer accounts 13, 14 can then be assigned to one another in the central system 11 or the decentralized computers of the beacons 6. Thereby, e.g. both accounts 13, 14 are charged in parallel, or - particularly preferred - only the vehicle account 13, thus preventing trailer OBUs 10 from being leased as separate "vehicles" and ensuring that the vehicle account 13 is charged with a trailer toll.

Description
The present invention relates to a method for the detection of vehicles with trailers in the context of a road toll system, which comprises at least one radio beacon for radio communication with radio OBUs.
Road toll systems for tolling vehicles with the aid of roadside radio beacons, which communicate with vehicle-side onboard units or OBUs in order to identify and locate them, are known in various designs. It is often necessary to detect the presence of a trailer, because this determines the height of the toll. In the known systems to either the number of axles is determined in order to close on a trailer with a trailer from a certain number of axles, or the presence of a trailer must be set by the user himself to the OBU of the vehicle. The former requires complex systems for axle counting, such as laser scanners or induction loops in the road, the latter is prone to error and manipulation.
The invention has for its object to provide a method for the detection of vehicles with trailers, which is simpler and safer than the known solutions.
This object is achieved with a method of the type mentioned above, which is characterized in that vehicles and trailers each own, entrained by these OBUs are assigned, and that a vehicle and a trailer are detected as belonging to each other when an evaluation of the radio communications with their OBUs show that they move with limited and constant mutual distance.
The invention is based on the new approach of providing dedicated trailer OBUs and detecting them as belonging to a particular vehicle OBU based on an evaluation of the usual radio communication between radio beacons and OBUs. This represents a surprisingly simple way of detecting vehicles with trailers, which requires neither complex axle counting nor error-prone user input to an OBU. Since OBUs are low-cost mass-produced items, the dual OBU equipment for vehicles and trailers is not significantly significant compared to the known axle counting systems and given the tamper security that can be achieved by eliminating user input.
The method of the invention does not require any special positioning of the trailer OBU within a trailer and trailer truck. So the trailer OBU can be mounted both in the trailer itself and in the towing vehicle. Preferably, the vehicle OBU and the trailer OBU are both arranged side by side in the vehicle, e.g. right next to each other on the windshield.
Said distance measurement or localization by means of radio communication can be carried out in any manner known in the art. The phase shift between the two radio communications for distance measurement of the OBUs is preferably used for this purpose. Alternatively or additionally, the amplitude difference and / or the Doppler shifts of the two radio communications can be used to measure the movements of the OBUs. In this case, only radio communications within a predetermined time window are preferably taken into account in order to increase the evaluation reliability.
The method of the invention is particularly suitable for dedicated short range communication (DSRC) standard road toll systems in all different technological embodiments, eg, infrared, microwave at 5.8 GHz or 5.9 GHz, etc. Accordingly, the radio beacons are preferably DSRC -Funkbaken and the OBUs preferably DSRC-OBUS, more preferably infrared or microwave based.
Said evaluation of the radio communications can be both centrally in a central system and decentralized in a radio beacon or a e.g. for several radio beacons provided local control of the road toll system.
After detection of a mutually belonging pair of OBUs, toll accounts corresponding to the OBUs can then be allocated to one another in the central system and / or the radio beacons. Thereby, e.g. both toll accounts, the vehicle OBU and the trailer OBU, are loaded in parallel, or, more preferably, only the toll account of the vehicle OBU. In the latter case can thus be prevented in a particularly simple manner that trailer OBUs are looted as separate vehicles, and on the other hand be ensured that the vehicle toll account is charged with a trailer toll.

In an alternative embodiment, also included here, the OBUs 9, 10 may be of self-locating type, for example with the aid of a built-in satellite navigation receiver, and transmit their positions to the

The trailer OBUs 10 can be mounted both in the
Since the two
Alternatively or additionally, it is also possible to infer the physical proximity of two
After detection of a mutually belonging pair of
