Abstract

The invention relates to a toilet bowl, comprising:
- an upper edge enclosing a cup-like recess;
- a rear wall, which rear wall comprises suspending means for suspending the toilet bowl from a wall;
- a downward directed outlet opening which is connected to the cup-like recess.
The invention further relates to a combination of a toilet bowl according to the invention and a sanitary space with at least a floor and an upright wall, wherein the toilet bowl is arranged with the rear wall on the wall and suspended above the floor.

Description

  • The invention relates to a toilet bowl, comprising:
    • an upper edge enclosing a cup-like recess;
    • a rear wall, which rear wall comprises suspending means for suspending the toilet bowl from a wall.
  • It has long been usual to hang toilet bowls in suspended manner. The advantage hereof is that the sanitary space can be easily cleaned. In order to make a suspended toilet possible a reservoir and a sewer connection has to be arranged in the wall on which it is desired to hang the toilet bowl. The toilet bowl itself is provided on the rear wall with a connecting opening for the outflow of the reservoir and with an outlet opening for connection to the sewer.
  • Toilet bowls are further known which are floor-standing. These toilet bowls are provided with an outlet opening which is directed downward so that this outlet opening can be directly connected to a sewer connection arranged in the floor. A feed opening for flush water is usually further arranged on the rear wall of the toilet bowl. This flush water can be supplied from a cistern arranged on the rear side of the toilet bowl or a cistern arranged close to the ceiling of the sanitary space.
  • Installing a standing toilet bowl has long been usual in the house-building industry. During renovation however, residents often wish to install a suspended toilet bowl. If the sanitary space is limited, a suspended toilet bowl is not always possible. Because a suspended toilet bowl has on the rear wall an outlet opening and a feed for flush water, additional space is necessary behind the suspended toilet bowl. A build-in reservoir is often placed in this additional space. Because of this additional space behind the toilet bowl, the space in front of the toilet bowl will be reduced. This space can then become unacceptably small.
  • It is now an object of the invention to provide a toilet bowl which alleviates or even obviates the above stated drawbacks.
  • This object is achieved with a toilet bowl according to the invention, this toilet bowl being characterized by
    • a downward directed outlet opening which is connected to the cup-like recess.
  • The toilet bowl according to the invention can be hung on a wall and still be connected to the sewer connection in the floor. Additional space behind the toilet bowl is thus not necessary with the toilet bowl according to the invention, whereby the space taken up by the toilet bowl according to the invention remains the same as that of a standing toilet, while the cleaning efficiency associated with a suspended toilet is still achieved.
  • In addition, the downward directed outlet opening provides the further advantage that the toilet bowl can easily be adjusted in the height.
  • The toilet bowl is further no longer dependent on a build-in reservoir as is usual in the prior art. The toilet bowl can be provided with flush water from a separate reservoir. This reservoir can be arranged at a suitable location, such as for instance on an adjoining wall or incorporated in the wall.
  • An embodiment of the toilet bowl according to the invention comprises a feed opening for flush water which debouches in the cup-like recess. The feed opening is preferably arranged in the rear wall of the toilet bowl.
  • In this latter embodiment the flush pipe can be arranged in the wall and coupled to for instance a cistern hanging close to the ceiling. In the case pressure flushing is possible, the water conduit can be connected directly to the feed opening.
  • In another embodiment of the toilet bowl according to the invention a curved pipe part is arranged between the downward directed outlet opening and the cup-like recess. The curved pipe part is preferably removable. It is hereby possible to also use the toilet bowl according to the invention as conventional suspended toilet bowl. For this purpose the curved pipe part can then be removed and a straight pipe part can be arranged which forms an outlet opening in the rear wall of the toilet bowl.
  • The invention further comprises a combination of a toilet bowl according to the invention and a sanitary space with at least a floor and an upright wall, wherein the toilet bowl is arranged with the rear wall on the wall and suspended above the floor. It is important that the toilet bowl be arranged suspended above the floor so that the floor under the toilet bowl is accessible for cleaning.
  • A preferred embodiment of the combination according to the invention comprises a connecting pipe for connecting the outlet opening of the toilet bowl to a sewer connection arranged in the floor.
  • In another embodiment the connecting pipe is arranged partially in the wall. In some cases it could be that the outlet opening in the floor has a partial overlap with the wall. Such a situation can occur particularly when a pre-wall is arranged in order to conceal for instance a build-in reservoir.
  • An advantage of the toilet bowl according to the invention is that a suspended toilet bowl is provided which is not dependent on the construction of a conventional build-in reservoir. In such a conventional build-in reservoir the connecting pipe is incorporated in the frame of the reservoir. A rear outlet of the toilet bowl must then connect thereto, and the connecting pipe will run wholly behind the pre-wall or in the wall to the outlet opening in the floor. The distance from the pre-wall or the overall depth of the reservoir therefore depends on the thickness of the connecting pipe and other possible requirements, such as a minimum distance to the wall behind.
  • With the toilet bowl according to the invention it is possible to opt for instance for a flatter build-in reservoir, because the thickness of the connecting pipe no longer determines the position of the pre-wall.
  • In another preferred embodiment according to the invention an adjusting plate is arranged between the wall and the rear wall for height adjustment of the toilet bowl. The toilet bowl can be suspended at a desired height via this adjusting plate. The connecting pipe can for instance slide telescopically here in the outlet opening.
  • In another embodiment of the combination according to the invention an outflow of a cistern is arranged in the wall, this outflow connecting to the cup-like recess.
  • These and other features of the invention are further elucidated with reference to the accompanying drawings.
    • Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a first embodiment of a combination according to the invention.
    • Figure 2 shows a cross-sectional view of the combination according to figure 1.
    • Figure 3 shows a second embodiment of a combination according to the invention.
    • Figure 4 shows a cross-section of a third embodiment according to the invention.
    • Figure 5 shows an adjusting plate for the purpose of suspending a toilet bowl.
    • Figure 6 shows a variant of the adjusting plate according to figure 5.
    • Figure 1 shows a first embodiment of a combination 1 according to the invention. This combination consists of a sanitary space formed by a floor 2 and two walls 3, 4. A toilet bowl 5 is arranged on wall 4. A connecting pipe 6 is arranged on the underside of toilet bowl 5.
  • Incorporated in wall 4 is a flush pipe 7 along which flush water can flow from reservoir 8 into toilet bowl 5.
  • Figure 2 shows a cross-section of toilet bowl 5. Toilet bowl 5 has a cup-like recess 9. Provided on the underside of the cup-like recess 9 is an opening 10 to which a swan neck-shaped channel 11 connects. This channel 11 ends in outlet opening 12 which is directed downward toward floor 2.
  • Outlet opening 12 is provided with an inward directed flange 13 so that connecting pipe 6 can slide telescopically in toilet bowl 5. The other end of connecting pipe 6 protrudes into sewer connection 14 provided in floor 2.
  • Provided on the upper side of the cup-like recess 9 is an edge 15 on which flush pipe 7 debouches via channel 16. Flush pipe 7 takes a telescopic form in wall 4 so that toilet bowl 5 is easily adjustable in height.
  • An adjusting plate 18 is arranged between rear wall 17 and wall 4, whereby toilet bowl 5 can easily be adjusted in the height.
  • Figure 3 shows a cross-section of a second embodiment of a toilet bowl 20 according to the invention. This toilet bowl 20 also has a cup-like recess 21. Provided on the underside is an opening 22 which debouches via a curved channel 23 into an opening 24. Connected to this opening is a curved pipe part 25, the free end 26 of which forms the downward directed outlet opening.
  • As in the embodiment of figure 1, a connecting pipe 27 is arranged on this downward directed outlet opening 26, which pipe in turn protrudes into sewer pipe 28 in floor 29.
  • Upper edge 30 of cup-like recess 21 is provided with a depending flange which connects onto a channel 31 which is in turn connected to a flush pipe 32 for flush water. In this embodiment flush pipe 32 is arranged in front of the wall and protrudes vertically into toilet bowl 20. Owing to this and the vertical connecting pipe the toilet bowl 20 can be displaced up and downward.
  • Figure 4 shows a cross-section of a third embodiment of a toilet bowl 40 according to the invention. This toilet bowl 40 also has a cup-like recess 41 having on the underside an opening 42 which debouches via a swan neck-like channel 43 into a downward directed outlet opening 44.
  • Toilet bowl 40 is suspended on a pre-wall 45. Arranged between wall 46 and pre-wall 45 is a build-in reservoir 47, the outflow opening 48 of which debouches into toilet bowl 40.
  • A sewer connection 50 is provided in floor 49. This connection 50 lies partially behind pre-wall 45. Outlet opening 44 of toilet bowl 40 is connected via a curved connecting pipe 51 to sewer connection 50.
  • Because sewer connection 50 need not lie wholly behind the pre-wall, the overall depth of toilet bowl 40 with reservoir 47 can remain limited, this being advantageous for toilet spaces of small dimensions.
  • Figure 5 shows a perspective view of the adjusting plate 18 of figure 2. Adjusting plate 18 has two threaded ends 60 on which a toilet bowl 5 can be hung. Two rows of holes 61, 62 are arranged in the adjusting plate. Adjusting plate 18 can be firmly fixed to a wall via these holes. Because holes 61, 62 are arranged at equal distances, the adjusting plate can be easily adjusted in height, and toilet bowl 5 can thereby also be adjusted easily in height.
  • Owing to the large number of holes 61, 62 the plate can in addition be secured with as many screws as necessary. In the case of a strong concrete wall it is for instance possible to suffice with two screws, while in the case of a softer wall it is possible to opt for instance for eight screws.
  • Slots can optionally also be provided instead of a large number of holes 61, 62.
  • Figure 6 shows a variant of adjusting plate 18. Here a recess 63 is provided on the underside of adjusting plate 18. This recess 63 can provide space for the outlet pipe if it lies partially in the wall, as for instance in the case of the embodiment according to figure 4. In addition, this adjusting plate 18 can also be used for a conventional suspended toilet bowl wherein the outlet opening is arranged on the rear side.
