Description
- The invention relates to a toilet bowl, comprising:
- an upper edge enclosing a cup-like recess;
- a rear wall, which rear wall comprises suspending means for suspending the toilet bowl from a wall.
- It has long been usual to hang toilet bowls in suspended manner. The advantage hereof is that the sanitary space can be easily cleaned. In order to make a suspended toilet possible a reservoir and a sewer connection has to be arranged in the wall on which it is desired to hang the toilet bowl. The toilet bowl itself is provided on the rear wall with a connecting opening for the outflow of the reservoir and with an outlet opening for connection to the sewer.
- Toilet bowls are further known which are floor-standing. These toilet bowls are provided with an outlet opening which is directed downward so that this outlet opening can be directly connected to a sewer connection arranged in the floor. A feed opening for flush water is usually further arranged on the rear wall of the toilet bowl. This flush water can be supplied from a cistern arranged on the rear side of the toilet bowl or a cistern arranged close to the ceiling of the sanitary space.
- Installing a standing toilet bowl has long been usual in the house-building industry. During renovation however, residents often wish to install a suspended toilet bowl. If the sanitary space is limited, a suspended toilet bowl is not always possible. Because a suspended toilet bowl has on the rear wall an outlet opening and a feed for flush water, additional space is necessary behind the suspended toilet bowl. A build-in reservoir is often placed in this additional space. Because of this additional space behind the toilet bowl, the space in front of the toilet bowl will be reduced. This space can then become unacceptably small.
- It is now an object of the invention to provide a toilet bowl which alleviates or even obviates the above stated drawbacks.
- This object is achieved with a toilet bowl according to the invention, this toilet bowl being characterized by
- a downward directed outlet opening which is connected to the cup-like recess.
- The toilet bowl according to the invention can be hung on a wall and still be connected to the sewer connection in the floor. Additional space behind the toilet bowl is thus not necessary with the toilet bowl according to the invention, whereby the space taken up by the toilet bowl according to the invention remains the same as that of a standing toilet, while the cleaning efficiency associated with a suspended toilet is still achieved.
- In addition, the downward directed outlet opening provides the further advantage that the toilet bowl can easily be adjusted in the height.
- The toilet bowl is further no longer dependent on a build-in reservoir as is usual in the prior art. The toilet bowl can be provided with flush water from a separate reservoir. This reservoir can be arranged at a suitable location, such as for instance on an adjoining wall or incorporated in the wall.
- An embodiment of the toilet bowl according to the invention comprises a feed opening for flush water which debouches in the cup-like recess. The feed opening is preferably arranged in the rear wall of the toilet bowl.
- In this latter embodiment the flush pipe can be arranged in the wall and coupled to for instance a cistern hanging close to the ceiling. In the case pressure flushing is possible, the water conduit can be connected directly to the feed opening.
- In another embodiment of the toilet bowl according to the invention a curved pipe part is arranged between the downward directed outlet opening and the cup-like recess. The curved pipe part is preferably removable. It is hereby possible to also use the toilet bowl according to the invention as conventional suspended toilet bowl. For this purpose the curved pipe part can then be removed and a straight pipe part can be arranged which forms an outlet opening in the rear wall of the toilet bowl.
- The invention further comprises a combination of a toilet bowl according to the invention and a sanitary space with at least a floor and an upright wall, wherein the toilet bowl is arranged with the rear wall on the wall and suspended above the floor. It is important that the toilet bowl be arranged suspended above the floor so that the floor under the toilet bowl is accessible for cleaning.
- A preferred embodiment of the combination according to the invention comprises a connecting pipe for connecting the outlet opening of the toilet bowl to a sewer connection arranged in the floor.
- In another embodiment the connecting pipe is arranged partially in the wall. In some cases it could be that the outlet opening in the floor has a partial overlap with the wall. Such a situation can occur particularly when a pre-wall is arranged in order to conceal for instance a build-in reservoir.
- An advantage of the toilet bowl according to the invention is that a suspended toilet bowl is provided which is not dependent on the construction of a conventional build-in reservoir. In such a conventional build-in reservoir the connecting pipe is incorporated in the frame of the reservoir. A rear outlet of the toilet bowl must then connect thereto, and the connecting pipe will run wholly behind the pre-wall or in the wall to the outlet opening in the floor. The distance from the pre-wall or the overall depth of the reservoir therefore depends on the thickness of the connecting pipe and other possible requirements, such as a minimum distance to the wall behind.
- With the toilet bowl according to the invention it is possible to opt for instance for a flatter build-in reservoir, because the thickness of the connecting pipe no longer determines the position of the pre-wall.
- In another preferred embodiment according to the invention an adjusting plate is arranged between the wall and the rear wall for height adjustment of the toilet bowl. The toilet bowl can be suspended at a desired height via this adjusting plate. The connecting pipe can for instance slide telescopically here in the outlet opening.
- In another embodiment of the combination according to the invention an outflow of a cistern is arranged in the wall, this outflow connecting to the cup-like recess.
- These and other features of the invention are further elucidated with reference to the accompanying drawings.
