Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates generally to awning assemblies of the type to be mounted to a substantially vertical support surface.
- There are a number of known awning assemblies that support an awning or canopy to create a sheltered area. An inner end of the awning is typically secured to a wall and an outer end of the awning can be supported by poles that contact either the ground or the wall at a lower portion. These awning assemblies are often designed for use with movable support structures such as, for example, recreational vehicles, travel trailers, mobile homes, and the like, but are also usable with fixed structures.
- To provide a user with more usable space without making the recreational vehicles too large for public roads, several detachable screen rooms have been developed for use while the recreational vehicles is deployed at a desired destination. Such screen room enclosures are also capable of being attached to structures, other than recreational vehicles, that have a generally vertical wall. Seasonally used cabins do not warrant the costly construction of a permanent screen room adjacent to the existing structure. Screen room enclosures provide temporary interior space as needed without significant alterations to the existing structure.
- The following presents a simplified summary of the invention in order to provide a basic understanding of some example aspects of the invention. This summary is not an extensive overview of the invention. Moreover, this summary is not intended to identify critical elements of the invention nor delineate the scope of the invention. The sole purpose of the summary is to present some concepts of the invention in simplified form as a prelude to the more detailed description that is presented later.

The plurality of poles include a first pole and a second pole, where the first pole and the second pole each include a first end and a second end. The first end is configured to be removably received by the at least one base assembly and the plurality of poles is configured for supporting the canopy in the awning position and in the screen room position. The at least one accessory pole is received by the second end of one of the plurality of poles. The first sidewall is supported by the first pole where the first sidewall is deployed when the assembly is in the screen room position. The second sidewall is supported by the second pole where the second sidewall is deployed when the assembly is in the screen room position. The third sidewall is supported by the at least one accessory pole where the third sidewall is deployed when the assembly is in the screen room position. The bag is configured to receive at least one of the canopy, the plurality of poles, the first sidewall, the second sidewall, the third sidewall, and the at least one accessory pole when the assembly is in the stored position.
- In accordance with yet another aspect of the present invention, a method of selectively adjusting an assembly for use with a wall, where the assembly is adjusted between a stored position, an awning position, and a screen room position is provided comprising the steps of providing a bag that is configured to be removably attached to the wall, providing a canopy configured to be deployed from the bag wherein the canopy selectively covers an area adjacent to the wall, providing at least one base assembly attached to one of the bag or the wall, and providing a plurality of poles within the bag. The method further includes the steps of adjusting the assembly into the awning position by removably attaching the plurality of poles to the at least one base assembly and deploying the canopy to be supported by the plurality of poles, adjusting the assembly from the awning position into the screen room position by providing at least one sidewall removably engaging an edge of the canopy, and adjusting the assembly from either the awning position or the screen room position into the stored position by storing within the bag at least one of the canopy, the plurality of poles, and the at least one sidewall.

-
FIG. 1 illustrates a first example of arecreational vehicle 10 for use with anassembly 20. Theassembly 20 is attached to a vertically-extendingsupport wall 12 such as a side of therecreational vehicle 10. The term "recreational vehicle," as used in the specification and claims, includes campers, travel trailers, mobile homes, vans, buses, and the like. While theassembly 20 is particularly advantageous when attached torecreational vehicles 10, it can alternatively be attached to other vertically-extending walls such as, for example, the side of a building at a patio or deck or any other transportable or fixed structure. - The
assembly 20 is selectively adjusted between a stored position, an awning position, and a screen room position. InFIG. 1 , theassembly 20 is in the awning position. The awning position includes the deployment of at least acanopy 22 from theassembly 20. Thecanopy 22 can include adistal edge 24, twoside edges 26, and aproximate edge 28. Thecanopy 22 selectively covers an area adjacent to thewall 12. Thecanopy 22 can be a sheet of flexible material such as, for example, fabric, canvas, acrylic, or nylon. Thecanopy 22 can have a rectangular shape when viewed from above or can be provided with any other shape. - The
assembly 20 can further include at least onebase assembly 30. The at least onebase assembly 30 is configured for supporting and removably receiving at least onepole 40 in the awning position ofFIG. 1 . The plurality of poles can include at least afirst pole 40 that is used to support thecanopy 22. For example, the plurality of 40, 41 can further include a third pole (not shown) protruding from thepoles base assembly 30 located in the middle of theproximate edge 28 onFIG. 1 . The at least one 40, 41 can be removably attached to the wall for supporting thepole canopy 22 in the awning position. - When the canopy is deployed in the awning position, the
distal edge 24 of thecanopy 22 can be secured to anaccessory pole 60. Theaccessory pole 60 can engage thefirst pole 40. Theaccessory pole 60 can be stored in a pocket or a portion of thebag 50 when not in use. Alternatively, thedistal edge 24 of thecanopy 22 can be connected or secured to a canopy rod (not shown). In some examples, thecanopy 22 can be rollable on the canopy rod. Alternatively, thecanopy 22 can be provided without a canopy rod. In yet another example, theaccessory pole 60 is configured such that thecanopy 22 can be rolled and unrolled from theaccessory pole 60. In addition or alternatively, a tensioning mechanism can be provided to tension thecanopy 22 when it is deployed in the awning position. In addition or alternatively, a locking mechanism can be provided to prevent or restrict thecanopy 22 from inadvertently moving from the awning position to the stored position. - In a further example, the
accessory pole 60 can further include at least oneleg portion 61 that is used to support thecanopy 22 by extending downwardly from thedistal edge 24 of thecanopy 22. In an alternative example, the at least oneleg portion 61 can support thecanopy 22 by extending from thedistal edge 24 of thecanopy 22 to thewall 12. In a further example, the at least oneleg portion 61 can be configured to be adjustable in length. In yet another example, one of the at least oneleg portions 61 can be configured to contract in length in response to the collection of water on thecanopy 22 to spill the water off thecanopy 22 in a desired direction. Furthermore, theassembly 20 can be configured such that a user can selectively determine whether to place the at least oneleg portion 61 in contact with the ground directly below thedistal edge 24 of thecanopy 22 or whether to place the at least oneleg portion 61 in contact with a lower portion of thewall 12. A variety of fasteners can provided with theassembly 20 to allow theleg portion 61 to be attached to thewall 12. Alternatively, thepole 40 can be comprised of a strong material such that noleg portions 61 are necessary to support thecanopy 22 in the awning position. - The
assembly 20 can further include abag 50. Thebag 50 is configured to be removably attached to thewall 12. Thebag 50 can be attached to thewall 12 through the use of various fasteners. Thebag 50 can be configured to receive at least one of thecanopy 22, the at least onebase assembly 30, and the plurality of 40,41 in the awning position. The at least onepoles base assembly 30 can be configured to be attached to a portion of thebag 50. In other examples, the at least onebase assembly 30 is attached directly to thewall 12. Theproximate edge 28 of thecanopy 22 can be secured to either thebag 50 or thewall 12 of therecreational vehicle 10 at a suitable height. -
FIG. 1 further illustrates in phantom lines an example screen room position of theassembly 20 attached to thewall 12 of therecreational vehicle 10. At least one sidewall can removably engage an edge of thecanopy 22. Asecond sidewall 71 can be provided that engages anotherside edge 26 of thecanopy 22. Furthermore, athird sidewall 76 can be provided that engages thedistal edge 24 of thecanopy 22. A user can install any number of the 70, 71, 76. For example, a user could choose to erect only onesidewall sidewall 70 in combination with thecanopy 22. In another example, a user could install each of thefirst sidewall 70, thesecond sidewall 71, and thethird sidewall 76 to form a screen room in the screen room position of theassembly 20. - A
channel clip 90 can be attached to thewall 12 to secure the at least one 70, 71 of thesidewall assembly 20 to thewall 12 when theassembly 20 is in either the awning position or the screen room position. Afastener 98 is used combination with thechannel clip 90 for securing the at least one 70, 71 to thesidewall wall 12. A variety of other configurations can also be used. - As shown in
FIG. 2 , thecanopy 22 is shown as it is partially deployed from thebag 50 into the awning position. Thebag 50 is configured to be either permanently attached to thewall 12 or thebag 50 can be removably attached to thewall 12 through the use of various fasteners, such as thechannel clip 90. As the user deploys thecanopy 22 from thebag 50, the plurality of 40, 41 can be used to support thepoles canopy 22. Users can install the plurality of 40, 41 in a position to support thepoles canopy 22 before deploying thecanopy 22 from thebag 50. A variety of other support mechanisms can also be used to support thecanopy 22. - As shown in
FIG. 3 , theassembly 20 is shown in a stored position within thebag 50 attached to thewall 12. Thebag 50 can receive thecanopy 22, the at least onebase assembly 30, and the plurality of 40, 41 which can each be stored within thepoles bag 50 in the stored position. In one example, thecanopy 22 can be rolled up or folded to occupy a smaller amount of space. Thebag 50 can further include aclosure mechanism 52 configured for sealing or closing thebag 50. Theclosure mechanism 52 is shown schematically on one edge of thebag 50. A variety ofclosure mechanisms 52 can be provided including but not limited to zippers, hook and loop fastener material marketed under the trade name Velcro, snaps, tie straps, or clips. Thebag 50 can be sealed with at least one of thecanopy 22, the at least onebase assembly 30, and the plurality ofpoles 40 stored within thebag 50. A variety of other components can also be stored within thebag 50. - As shown in
FIG. 4 , theassembly 20 is shown in a second example of the screen room position. In this screen room position, thecanopy 22 is deployed, as inFIG. 1 . The plurality of poles, including thefirst pole 40 and thesecond pole 41, are removably attached to thewall 12 for supporting thecanopy 22 that is deployed. At least onebase assembly 30 is provided for supporting and removably receiving the plurality of 40,41 in the awning position and in the screen room position.poles - At least one
accessory pole 60 can also be provided in the second example of the screen room position. The at least oneaccessory pole 60 can be received by one of the plurality of 40, 41 For example, in the screen room position, the at least onepoles accessory pole 60 can be used to support thecanopy 22 or can be used to engage thethird sidewall 76 of theassembly 20. In this example, the at least oneaccessory pole 60 includes a plurality of segments such that a semi-circular shape can be formed by the at least oneaccessory pole 60. Other shapes can also be provided, as well as theaccessory pole 60 including the shape shown inFIG. 1 with three segments that are oriented substantially perpendicular to one another. - At least one sidewall can be provided that removably engages an edge of the
canopy 22. The least one sidewall, such as thefirst sidewall 70, thesecond sidewall 71, or thethird sidewall 76, can be comprised of various materials or fabrics. Thefirst sidewall 70 can be an extension of thecanopy 22, or it can be a separate section of material from thecanopy 22. Thefirst sidewall 70 can also be held in thebag 50 when the assembly is in the stored position. - The at least one sidewall can include at least one roll-up panel mounted within the at least one sidewall that is configured to provide access to the assembly when it is in the screen room position. For example, the
first sidewall 70 can include at least a first roll-uppanel 72 to provide access to theassembly 20 when it is in the screen room position. A user located within the assembly in the screen room position can selectively roll up the first roll-uppanel 72 to provide access from the screen room to an exterior position outside the screen room. - The at least one sidewall can include at least one removable panel mounted within the at least one sidewall that is configured to provide access to the assembly when it is in the screen room position. For example, the
first sidewall 70 can include at least a firstremovable panel 74 to provide access to theassembly 20 when it is in the screen room position. An example of the firstremovable panel 74 is a panel that includes a closure mechanism, such as a zipper. The firstremovable panel 74 can include the zipper that allows a user to remove a relatively larger portion of thefirst sidewall 70 to provide access to an exterior position outside the screen room. - In an example where both a first roll-up
panel 72 and a firstremovable panel 74 are provided, the first roll-uppanel 72 can be included within the firstremovable panel 74. In this example, theremovable panel 74 provides access to theassembly 20 when it is in the screen room position and the roll-uppanel 72 located within theremovable panel 74 is configured to provide additional access to theassembly 20. Thefirst panel 72 can be selectively removed from thefirst sidewall 70 and a user can still remove the firstremovable panel 74, regardless of whether the first roll-uppanel 72 is deployed or is already rolled up. Thefirst sidewall 70 can also include a plurality of sections with a plurality of roll-uppanels 72. Thefirst sidewall 70 can further include aninner edge 75 that is configured to engage thechannel clip 90. - The
assembly 20 can further include the second sidewan (not shown inFIG. 4 ), where a portion of material can be supported by thesecond pole 41. The second sidewall can also include at least a second roll-up panel and/or a second removable panel. The second sidewall can be an extension of thecanopy 22, or it can be a separate section of material from thecanopy 22. - A
third sidewall 76 can be provided as an extension of thecanopy 22, or it can be a separate section of material from thecanopy 22. In this example, thethird sidewall 76 is a front portion of theassembly 20. Thethird sidewall 76 can include at least a third roll-uppanel 78 to provide access to theassembly 20 when it is in the screen room position. Thethird sidewall 76 can include at least a thirdremovable panel 80 to provide access to theassembly 20 when it is in the screen room position. The third roll-uppanel 78 can be selectively removed from thethird sidewall 76 and a user can still remove the thirdremovable panel 80, regardless of whether the third roll-uppanel 78 is deployed or is already rolled up. - In another example of the
assembly 20, a number of different types of panels for the 70, 71, 76 can be provided for the screen room position, including but not limited to roll-up panels, privacy panels, removable panels, and a variety of panels that can be releasably removed from the assembly via fasteners such as zippers, hook and loop fastener material marketed under the trade name Velcro, snaps, tie straps, or clips. Any combination of the different types of panels within any of thesidewalls 70, 71, 76 can also be provided.sidewall - Releasable fasteners, such as hook and loop fasteners (not shown), can be provided to secure an outer edge of the
first sidewall 70 to an edge of thethird sidewall 76. Releasable fasteners, such as hook and loop fasteners (not shown), can also be provided to secure an outer edge of thesecond sidewall 71 to an edge of thethird sidewall 76. Thus, thefirst sidewall 70 and thesecond sidewall 71 can releasably secure the sides of thethird sidewall 76. Suitable releasable fasteners for this application include items such as zippers, hook and loop fastener material marketed under the trade name Velcro, snaps, tie straps, or clips, for example. In an alternative example, thefirst sidewall 70, thesecond sidewall 71, and the third side-wall 76 can be comprised of a singular piece of material such that no fasteners are necessary. In another example, fasteners can be provided to secure any or all of thefirst sidewall 70, thesecond sidewall 71, and thethird sidewall 76 to thecanopy 22. - The
assembly 20 can still further include at least oneelastic loop 82 that is configured to stake theassembly 20 to the ground when theassembly 20 is in the screen room position. Hold-downstraps 84 can also be provided to support a second end of thefirst pole 40 and thesecond pole 41. The hold-downstraps 84 can be secured to the ground. - As shown in
FIG. 5 , a front view of anexample base assembly 30 is shown. Theexample base assembly 30 can include afastener aperture 32. Thefastener aperture 32 is configured for attaching thebase assembly 30 to thewall 12. Alternatively, thebase assembly 30 can be configured to be attached to thebag 50 itself. Attaching the base assembly to thebag 50 eliminates the need to drill holes on thewall 12, such as on the wall of therecreational vehicle 10. The attachment of thebase assembly 30 to thebag 50 allows thebag 50 to be transported and attached to anywall 12 or vehicle for deployment of theassembly 20 in either a stored position, an awning position, or a screen room position. Thus, a user could purchase theassembly 20 for one recreational vehicle and then use theassembly 20 on a different vehicle as desired due to thebase assembly 30 being attached to thebag 50, where thebase assembly 30 provides the support for the plurality of 40, 41.poles - The
example base assembly 30 can further include areception portion 34, Thereception portion 34 is configured to receive one of the plurality of 40, 41. A variety of shapes for thepoles reception portion 34 can be provided so long as the shape can receive one of the 40, 41 that are provided.poles FIG. 6 includes a side view of a section of theexample base assembly 30. - As shown in
FIG. 7 , an example of thefirst pole 40 is shown. Thefirst pole 40 can include afirst end 42 and asecond end 43. Thefirst end 42 is configured to be removably received by the at least onebase assembly 30. Thefirst end 42 can include aspherical object 46 that is received by thebase assembly 30. Thespherical object 46 can cause a force fit of thefirst pole 40 in thebase assembly 30. In other examples, thebase assembly 30 can receive other types of structure located at thefirst end 42, such as a standard cylindrical end of thefirst pole 40. - The
second end 43 of thefirst pole 40 is configured to removably receive the at least oneaccessory pole 60. In this example, thesecond end 43 can include a c-shapedclip 48 for grasping theaccessory pole 60. A variety of other types of clips and features can be provided for securing theaccessory pole 60 to thefirst pole 40. - In another example, the
first pole 40 can further include anadjustment mechanism 44 located on thefirst pole 40 that is configured to be actuated by a user to adjust a length of thefirst pole 40, which can be a telescoping pole. In this example, theadjustment mechanism 44 includes an actuator such as a lever that can lock thefirst pole 40 at a desired length. In another example, other actuators and actuating mechanisms can be provided for securing a telescoping portion of thefirst pole 40 at a desired length. Alternatively, a plurality of segments of the 40, 41 can be provided that can be attached together to form a longer pole. Providingpoles 40, 41 of adjustable length allows a smaller amount of space to be taken up in thepoles bag 50 that the 40, 41 are stored in and also allows different lengths of thepoles canopy 22 to be deployed. - As shown in
FIG. 8 , anexample accessory pole 60 is shown. Afirst segment 62 can have a different length than asecond segment 64 or athird segment 66. Thus, the at least oneaccessory pole 60 can include at least two segments with at least two different lengths. The different lengths allow theaccessory pole 60 to form various shapes for the third side, or front side, of the screen room position of the assembly, The 62, 64, 66 of thesegments accessory pole 60 can be connected by a cord 68 or by other material to allow the 62, 64, 66 to have a variety of orientations relative to one another, The cord 68 is configured to maintain a connection between the at least twosegments 62, 64, 66. Thesegments 62, 64, 66 of thesegments accessory pole 60 are not fixed into any horizontal or vertical orientations. Moreover, additional structures or locking mechanisms can be provided for securing the 62, 64, 66 of thesegments accessory pole 60 relative to one another to provide a desired orientation of theaccessory pole 60. Thus, theaccessory pole 60 can be configured to be locked or secured in different orientations to improve installation and make it easier for a user to select a desired shape for the screen room and/or awning. The cord 68 is also configured to allow the 62, 64, 66 of thesegments accessory pole 60 to occupy a smaller space by allowing the 62, 64, 66 to be folded relative to one another. When thesegments 62, 64, 66 of thesegments accessory pole 60 are folded relative to one another, theaccessory pole 60 can be stored within a portion of thebag 50. In yet another example, theaccessory pole 60 can be adjustable in length, such as in the manner that the plurality of 40, 41 are adjustable.poles - As shown in
FIG. 9 , an example of thechannel clip 90 is shown. In one example, thechannel clip 90 is attached to thewall 12 that is configured to secure the at least one 70, 71 of thesidewall assembly 20 to thewall 12 when theassembly 20 is in either the awning position or the screen room position, In one example, thechannel clip 90 can be used to secure aninner edge 75 of thefirst sidewall 70 to thewall 12, such as when a user wants to secure the screen room position of theassembly 20 to thewall 12. In another alternative example, thechannel clip 90 can be used to attach thebag 50 to thewall 12. - An example of the
fastener 98 is comprised of an elongated lockingmember 99 rotatably connected to a fastening member having a central axis. The lockingmember 99 is connected to the fastening member such that the lockingmember 99 is generally perpendicular to, and rotatable about the central axis. A leading edge of thefastening 98 is threaded for engaging the inner periphery of anaperture 14 on thewall 12, thereby securing the lockingfastener 98 to thewall 12. Although the lockingmember 99 has been described herein as an elongated member, other suitably shaped locking members such as oblong, rectangular, or curve shaped members, tor example, are included within the scope of the present invention. The lockingmember 99 may be of any shape that is capable providing a locking force to secure afirst sidewall 70 to thewall 12. - The
channel clip 90 is adapted to communicate with the lockingfastener 98. Thechannel clip 90 is comprised of aflat portion 91 defining a lockinghole 92, and achannel portion 94 fastened to theflat portion 91. Theflat portion 91 is a generally flat geometric shaped sheet of durable material having dimensions that are sufficiently large to support thechannel portion 94 and encompass the lockinghole 92. When thechannel clip 90 is installed on thewall 12, theflat portion 91 is located adjacent to, and generally parallel to thewall 12, While thechannel portion 94 is oriented such that a restrictedopening 95 in thechannel portion 94 is directed outwardly from thewall 12. - As shown in
FIG. 10 , thechannel clip 90 is held in place at thewall 12 by the lockingfastener 98. The lockingfastener 98 engages theflat portion 91 adjacent to the lockinghole 92. The shape of the lockinghole 92 is compatible witch the shape of the lockingmember 99 such that the lockingmember 99 can pass through the lockinghole 92 when the lockingmember 99 is in a first position (FIG. 9 ) and may not pass through the lockinghole 92 when the lockingmember 99 is in a second position (FIG. 10 ). According to the shown example, the lockinghole 92 is a generally vertical oval shaped hole such that it is compatible with the elongated lockingmember 99 described above. - The
inner edge 75 of thefirst sidewall 70 can further include awelt 96. Thewelt 96 is provided on theinner edge 75 of thefirst sidewall 70 for communication with thechannel portion 94 of thechannel clip 90. Thewelt 96 includes an enlarged portion that extends along theinner edge 75 of thefirst sidewall 70. Thewelt 96 can include an elastically compressible core that is compatible with thechannel portion 94 of thechannel clip 90. Attaching thewelt 96 to theinner edge 75 of thesidewall 70 can be accomplished in any way that does not interfere with communication between thewelt 96 and thechannel clip 90 when the screen room enclosure is erected. For example, thewelt 96 can be stitched to theinner edge 75, integrally formed on theinner edge 75, or adhesively secured to theinner edge 75. In the example where thebag 50 is secured to thewall 12 through the use of thechannel clip 90, thebag 50 can include a welt or similar structure to be received by thechannel clip 90. - To remove the
first sidewall 70 of the screen room enclosure from thewall 12, the lockingmembers 99 are returned from the second position (FIG. 10 ) to the first position (FIG. 9 ). This, once again, permits the passage of the locking holes 92 over the lockingmembers 99 to release the channel clips 90 from thewall 12. After thefirst sidewall 70 is removed from thewall 12, thechannel clip 90 can be removed from theinner edge 75 of thefirst sidewall 70. - In another example, the
assembly 20 has a reduced weight in comparison to providing a separate awning assembly and a separate screen room assembly. Accordingly, in any of the examples, thebag 50 is easily transportable to another location, another wall, or another vehicle due to its relatively reduced weight. Theassembly 20 in further examples can be configured to relatively weigh less by providing relatively light-weight materials, such as materials typically used for the sidewalls of a tent, for the sidewalls of the screen room. A variety of shapes and lengths can also be provided for theassembly 20. - In another example, providing one
assembly 20 that provides an awning and a screen room reduces the amount of installation time in comparison to providing two separate assemblies for the awning and the screen room. In another example, a vast majority of the components or parts of theassembly 20 that are used to form the awning and/or the screen room, or even all of the components or parts of theassembly 20, can be rolled up into thebag 50. In addition, thebag 50 can further include a number of different compartments for separating different parts. For example, a pouch can be provided in thebag 50 for holding any tools. A second pouch can be provided to hold theaccessory poles 60, A third pouch can be provided for holding a third type of part, etc. Thebag 50 can also further include a pouch that holds replacement or spare parts. In addition, any combination of any of the examples for any of the parts or features provided can also be utilized in theassembly 20. - A method of selectively adjusting an assembly for use with a wall, where the assembly is adjusted between a stored position, an awning position, and a screen room position will now be described with respect to an
assembly 20. It will be appreciated that similar or identical method steps may be performed with further examples, for instance, as described throughout the application. Moreover, example methods of the present invention may omit and/or add additional steps. Moreover, unless noted, the steps can be performed simultaneously, sequentially or in different orders depending on the particular application. - As shown in
FIGS. 1-4 , methods of selectively adjusting anassembly 20 for use with awall 12 between a stored position, an awning position, and a screen room position are schematically illustrated. In a first example method, a method is provided that includes the steps of providing abag 50 that is configured to be removably attached to thewall 12, providing acanopy 22 configured to be deployed from thebag 50 wherein thecanopy 22 selectively covers an area adjacent to thewall 12, providing at least onebase assembly 30 attached to one of thebag 50 or thewall 12, and providing a plurality of 40, 41 within thepoles bag 50. The method further includes the steps of adjusting theassembly 20 into the awning position by removably attaching the plurality of 40, 41 to the at least onepoles base assembly 30 and deploying thecanopy 22 to be supported by the plurality of 40, 41, adjusting thepoles assembly 20 from the awning position into the screen room position by providing at least one 70, 71, 76 removably engaging an edge of thesidewall canopy 22; and adjusting theassembly 20 from either the awning position or the screen room position into the stored position by storing within thebag 50 at least one of thecanopy 22, the plurality of 40, 41, and the at least onepoles 70, 71, 76. Thus, the stored position can correspond to a time when at least one ofsidewall canopy 22, the plurality of 40, 41, and the at least onepoles 70, 71, 76 are stored within thesidewall bag 50. - Generally, the stored position can also correspond to a time when there is no awning or screen room provided, such as when the
canopy 22 is still not deployed. The awning position can correspond to a time when thecanopy 22 is deployed. The screen room position can correspond to a time when at least one 70, 71, 76 is installed while thesidewall canopy 22 is deployed. In other examples, the screen room position can correspond only to a time when thecanopy 22 is deployed and when each of the available sidewalls (e.g. 70, 71, 76) is installed about thecanopy 22. - The example method can further include the step of providing an
adjustment mechanism 44 located on the plurality of 40, 41 configured to adjust a length of the plurality ofpoles 40, 41. The example method can then further include the step of adjusting a length that thepoles canopy 22 is deployed from thebag 50 by operation of theadjustment mechanism 44 to adjust the length of the plurality of 40, 41. Alternatively, the example method can also further include the steps of providing apoles removable panel 74 within the at least onesidewall 70 for providing access to the assembly when it is in the screen room position, and providing a roll-uppanel 72 located within theremovable panel 74 of the at least onesidewall 70 that is configured to provide access to the assembly. - The invention has been described with reference to the example embodiments described above. Modifications and alterations will occur to others upon a reading and understanding of this specification. Example embodiments incorporating one or more aspects of the invention are intended to include all such modifications and alterations insofar as they come within the scope of the appended claims.
