Description
MATTRESS FILLING
DESCRIPTION
The present patent relates to the sector of mattresses and in particular it concerns mattress fillings with differentiated load-bearing capacity. At present mattresses are increasingly widespread and used whose internal filling is made of a foam material, like for example latex, polyurethane, polyol or other types of material.
In order to obtain mattress fillings with differentiated load-bearing capacity cuts, chambers, pockets are created in the body of the filling, or different foam materials are used to obtain areas with different load-bearing capacity. The use of different foam materials is much more common than the creation of cuts or chambers, mainly for the sake of simplicity. The mattress fillings consisting of two different materials are generally obtained by foaming and syntherizing the material of a first part in a suitable mould, and by successively positioning said first part, completely formed, inside a second mould in which the second material is foamed and sintered. Since the two materials are similar, or in any case compatible with each other, when the second material is foamed and sintered it adheres and becomes attached to the surface of the first material, so that the two parts are joined together.
In order to improve the differentiation in load-bearing capacity, heat transmission and user satisfaction, some mattress fillings are provided with pads, panels or inserts made of gel or other materials similar to gel. Mattress fillings with elements made of gel are produced with the same process adopted for making mattress fillings in two materials: the gel element is produced or otherwise procured and then placed inside the mould where the material that makes up the body of the filling is successively
foamed and sintered.
The mattress fillings with elements made of gel produced in this way are easy and quick to manufacture but pose several drawbacks and problems.
Due to the different chemical-physical characteristics of the foam material and the gel used, the connection between the body of the filling and the gel elements is not stable and long-lasting, in fact said gel elements tend to detach from the body of the filling over time.
The characteristics, and more precisely the foaming and sintering chemical and physical parameters of the material that makes up the body of the filling must be accurately evaluated in order to avoid damaging the gel elements during foaming, sintering and successive hardening of the material of the body, and this does not always happen.
To remedy all the drawbacks described above a new type of filling for mattresses has been designed and produced, which comprises a body made of a foam material and one or more gel elements.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a new mattress filling comprising a body made of a foam material joined in a stable and lasting manner to each gel element.
Another object of the invention is to produce a new mattress filling whose body is made of a foam material with foaming physical-chemical characteristics that are not compatible with the gel elements.
A further object of the invention is to provide a new mattress filling comprising gel elements with constant thickness also in the areas where the mattress body has bumps or depressions. These and other direct and complementary objects are achieved by the new mattress filling comprising a body having on its upper surface waved and/or shaped bumps or depressions, joined to one or more elements made of gel or
a gel-like material.
The body of the filling can be coupled with further layers, each one formed by foam material with equal or different elasticity, compressibility, deformability characteristics. Said bumps or depressions are preferably obtained through the removal of material after foaming and sintering of the body.
The gel elements are constituted by substantially flat elements suited to be applied to the long sides of the body of the filling, on both the flat and the shaped parts. In particular, said gel elements are constituted by a constant layer of a colloidal substance in the semi-solid state, typically polyol, and fabric is applied to one of the long sides. The gel layer substantially has an indicative thickness of a few millimetres.
The gel elements are applied to the long side provided with bumps and/or depressions of said body of said filling, after application of suitable adhesive substances, typically water-based glue. In particular, said adhesive substances are such as not to affect the chemical-physical characteristics of the body and of the gel elements of the filling.
Said adhesive substances are preferably but not exclusively applied to said fabric of the gel elements and to the surface of the body where said fabric is applied. Said adhesive substances substantially provide for joining the material of the body of the filling to the fabric of the gel elements.
The gel elements which are applied in this way to the body of the filling follow the surface shape of said body, that is, they also follow the surface bumps and depressions of the upper and lower layer of the body of the filling.
According to the invention, the body of the filling is provided with through
holes intended to allow transpiration.
Always according to the invention, said layer is provided with small holes distributed on its entire surface and suited to allow transpiration. The attached drawing shows, by way of non-limiting example, a practical embodiment of the invention.
Figure 1 shows an axonometric and sectional view of an example of embodiment of the new mattress filling (I) where it is possible to see the body (C) to which a gel element (G) is applied. In this figure one corner of the gel element (G) is raised for illustrative purposes. Each gel element (G) consists of a layer of gel (Gl), to the long side of which a connection fabric (G2) is applied. The connection between the body (C) and the gel elements (G) is obtained through the application of adhesive, that is, water-based glue, in such a way as to avoid damaging or modifying the characteristics of the body (C) and of the gel elements (G) and to join the body (C) and the gel elements (G) in a stable and lasting manner.
Figure 2 shows a sectional view of an example of embodiment of the new mattress filling (I) where the body (C) presents waved and/or shaped bumps or depressions (V). The gel elements (G) cover both the flat parts and the parts with bumps or depressions of the body (C). Figure 3 shows a sectional view of a preferred embodiment of the new mattress filling (I) where the body (C) with bumps or depressions (V) is joined to further layers (Cl, C2) of equal or different foam materials. The gel layer (G) covers both the flat parts and the parts with bumps or depressions of the body (C), following said bumps or depressions of the body (C).
Therefore, with reference to the above description and the attached drawings, the following claims are expressed.
