Description

    Object of the Invention
  • The present invention relates to a bottle opener, specifically for: sparkling wine or carbonated beverage bottles provided with a stopper with a thick outer end or head; wine bottles with a conventional cork stopper, with or without a protective capsule, and bottles provided with a crown cap.
  • Background of the Invention
  • Today, a certain variety of closures and stoppers for bottles can be found on the market, some of these being distinctive stoppers of the bottled product, such as the stoppers for bottles of sparkling wine or champagne, the stoppers for wine bottles and others. In certain cases these stoppers can be easily opened by hand and without the necessity of special tools, but most of these stoppers require openers or specific tools suitable for opening them, which forces the user to have different openers.
  • Although sometimes the same tool serves for opening two types of bottles, there is no device that can be used universally for opening different types of cork stoppers, protective capsules and crown caps in a simple and fast manner.
  • For example, utility model U200900768 is known for a "Bottle Opener", belonging to the same proprietor, which discloses an opener particularly indicated for sparkling wine bottles, champagne bottles or other carbonated beverage bottles provided with a stopper with a protruding end or head, and it is formed by a body of a considerably tubular configuration which provides at its front end: a front mouth for the lateral introduction of the head of the stopper, an upper wall for the impact and retention of the bottle stopper during its removal and, at its lower part, a longitudinal opening demarcated by two opposing side edges for the lateral reception of that part of the body of the stopper located between the projecting end or head and the mouth of the bottle. The tilting of the opener towards the lower area determines the removal of the stopper with respect to the body of the bottle. This opener optionally incorporates a recess in a handle for opening bottles closed with a crown cap, but it does not allow opening wine bottles provided with a conventional cork stopper of the type which are introduced in the neck without outwardly protruding. Nor does the opener comprise cutting means for the protective capsule that is usually incorporated in these wine bottles.
  • Description of the Invention
  • The bottle opener object of this invention has technical particularities aimed to facilitate a practically universal use, which allows opening bottles provided with stoppers with a protruding head or end, such as sparkling wine or champagne bottles; bottles with conventional cork stoppers, such as wine bottles, cutting and removing protective capsules of wine bottles and removing crown caps, such as those of beer bottles.
  • The opener of this invention comprises a body of a considerably tubular configuration having at its front end: a front mouth having a longitudinal opening demarcated by two opposing side edges and an upper wall for opening cork stoppers with a thick projecting end.
  • According to the invention, the body comprises, associated thereto, a metal screw and a supporting arm with one or more contact notches, in a position close to the end opposite the front mouth for opening wine bottles with a conventional cork. Said metal screw and supporting arm are articulated respectively on transverse pins of the body, enabling its longitudinal swiveling into said body in an inoperative position, or its extraction through the longitudinal opening in an operative position.
  • The front mouth of the opening has sharp areas for cutting the capsules by simply placing the side of the neck of the bottle against the front mouth and turning the opener around it. Once the capsule is laterally cut, it is removed by manually pulling the cut part by the upper part of the neck or pushing with the opener itself.
  • The supporting arm also has a recess forming an opener for crown caps, such as those used in beer bottles.
  • Thus, the opener of the invention comprises in a single device the capacity to open several stoppers which commonly need different tools for opening them, or which, if opened by hand, can be bothersome or complicated.
  • The longitudinal opening has a decreasing width towards the rear area for the fitting of the side edges to the opposite sides of the body of the stopper during its lateral introduction into said longitudinal opening, facilitating the entrance of the thick part of the projecting end or head of the sparkling wine stopper.
  • In turn, the side edges have a border or section decreasing towards the free end thereof for facilitating the longitudinal introduction thereof between the head of the stopper and the mouth of the bottle. This decreasing border or section of the side edges is configured by folded triangular flanges, allowing the cost-effective manufacture of the body of the opener from bent sheet metal.
  • In an embodiment, it has been provided that one of the contact notches of the supporting arm has a concave configuration with a projecting edge defining the recess for opening the aforementioned crown caps.
  • Description of the Drawings
  • To complement the description that is being made and for the purpose of facilitating the understanding of the features of the invention, a set of drawings is attached to the present specification in which the following has been depicted with an illustrative and non-limiting character:
    • Figure 1 shows a perspective view of the opener
    • Figure 2 shows a bottom view of the opener.
    • Figure 3 shows a longitudinal section of the opener in a practical position for cutting the capsule of a bottle with a conventional cork and subsequently opening it with the metal screw.
    • Figure 4 shows a longitudinal section of the opener in a practical position for removing a cork with a thick projecting end of a sparkling wine or champagne bottle.
    • Figure 5 shows a longitudinal section of the opener in a practical position for removing a crown cap.
    Preferred Embodiment of the Invention
  • As can be observed in the referenced figures, the opener comprises a body (1) of a considerably tubular configuration having at its front end a front mouth (11), an upper wall (12), and in its lower part a longitudinal opening (13), this longitudinal opening (13) being demarcated by two opposing side edges (14) converging from the front mouth (11) to the opposite end of the tubular body (1) for the extraction of a stopper (2) of the type having a thick projecting end or head.
  • The body (1) comprises, associated thereto, a metal screw (3) and a supporting arm (4)in a position close to the opposite end of the front mouth (11), said metal screw (3) and the supporting arm (4) being articulated respectively on transverse pins (31, 41) on the body (1). This metal screw (3) and the supporting arm (4) are arranged, in an inoperative position, longitudinally swiveled into the body (1), allowing the extraction of the ends thereof through the mentioned longitudinal opening (13) for use, as is depicted in Figures 3 and 4.
  • The supporting arm (4) has at one end a direct contact notch (5) on the neck of the bottle for extracting a conventional cork stopper (6) and further in it has a second notch, which has a concave configuration with a projecting edge defining the recess (7) for opening crown caps (8), as is depicted in Figure 5.
  • In one embodiment, the side edges (14) of the longitudinal opening (13) have a border or section decreasing towards the front mouth (11), this decreasing section of the side edges (14) being configured by folded triangular flanges (15).
  • The front mouth (11) has side edges defining sharp areas (14a) for cutting capsules (9), in this case, the sharp areas (14a) having a convex section.
  • Having sufficiently described the nature of the invention as well as a preferred embodiment, it is stated for all relevant purposes that the materials, shape, size and arrangement of the described elements may be modified, provided that this does not involve an alteration of the essential features of the invention that are claimed below.
