- Frame contact elements are already known. Thus, there are contact elements comprising a plugging portion surrounded by a frame and a connecting portion for crimping a wire.
- a frame is a robust part for mechanically protecting the plugging part.
- These frame contact elements are sold in the form of a strip comprising a separable carrier strip whose one side carries the connecting portions of the contact elements. Since the connecting part of each contact element is crimped on a separate wire, the wires can be brought together or spaced to the desired size after crimping, so that the spacing of the contact elements placed on the carrier strip hardly of importance in this application.
- WO 88/00762 discloses contact elements whose connecting portion comprises at least one rectangular shaped puncture, having two teeth placed at opposite edges of the puncture in a direction transverse to the connecting portion. These contact elements, which are made in a strip which comprises a carrier strip fixed to the plugging portion. This arrangement is particularly advantageous insofar as it allows the simultaneous connection of several contact elements to the conductors of a flat conductor cable at a pitch of about 2.5 mm. This connection allows the formation of connectors that are now widely used for connections with flat cables or for flexible circuit connection. Such contact elements are very competitive because they make it possible to achieve a safe electrical contact by mechanical operation so as to be able to overcome any welding operation. The present invention aims to expand the use of such contact elements and connectors to environments more hostile in terms of cleanliness and especially moisture.
