Ce point est d'autant plus important que de tels balais sont souvent, typiquement pour des raisons de répartition d'usure, disposés sur la platine support de balais en alternant leurs polarités. Il importe également que la connexion électrique de chacun des balais permette le passage de courants éventuellement élevés, aussi bien pour améliorer les performances du démarreur que pour en diminuer l'échauffement et en augmenter la durée de vie.
