The invention relates to a security and / or value document with a personalized overall graphical information, wherein the total graphic information of at least two mutually in the direction (R) orthogonal to a main surface (H) of the security and / or value document superimposed and the overall graphic information complementary partial graphics information, wherein the partial information is represented by the same or different imaging technologies, wherein the partial information is displayed in the same or different layers of the security and / or value document, wherein above, below and / or between the layers with the partial information, a security element or a plurality of security elements is arranged at least in a partial area of the overall graphic information, viewed in the direction orthogonal to a main area of the security and / or value document. The invention further relates to a method for producing such a security and / or value document.

Hintergrund der Erfindung und Stand der Technik. Background of the invention and prior art.

Security elements serve to secure a security and / or value document against counterfeiting or copying.

A security and / or valuable document of the structure mentioned above, with the exception of the security element, for example, from the literature EP 0537484 A1 known. Accordingly, a personalized overall graphic information, a passport picture, is divided into two partial graphic information and the two partial graphic information are introduced with different technologies, laser engraving and color printing, in different layers of the security and / or value document, register-accurate, so that the two Add partial information to the overall information. The same is in the literature EP 1044826 A1 However, the establishment of a overlapping with the overall graphical information security element is not disclosed.

From practice it is known, for example, a passport image shown in a single print layer thereby protect against counterfeiting that a protective film with a security element, such as a hologram, at least over parts of the passport photograph is glued or laminated. Since this security element is not personalized, an unauthorized person can replace this protective film with the security element nondestructively and use for the production of imitation forgery, for example by applying to another fake security and / or value document, or by changing or replacing the personalized total information, for example a passport photograph, and reapplication of the security element.

Technisches Problem der ErfindungTechnical problem of the invention

The invention is therefore based on the technical problem of further developing a security and / or value document of the structure known from practice in such a way that the security and / or value document is better protected against counterfeiting and, moreover, that the security element is no longer destroyed in a non-destructive manner and otherwise can be used.

In order to solve this technical problem, the invention teaches a security and / or value document with a personalized overall graphical information, wherein the overall graphic information of at least two mutually superimposed in the direction orthogonal to a main surface of the security and / or value document and to the overall graphic information partial information is represented by means of identical or different imaging technologies, wherein the partial information is mapped in the same or different layers of the security and / or value document, wherein, above, below, and / or between the layers (5, 6) with the partial information, a security element or several security elements at least in a partial area of the graphic overall information, in the direction orthogonal are considered to a main surface of the security and / or value document, are arranged, and wherein the surface of the security and / or value document is formed by a protective layer, optionally without security element.

With the invention, it is achieved that the overall graphic information, typically personalized information, such as a passport picture, is distributed in several levels or layers of the security and / or value document, whereby the overall graphical information is introduced not only two-dimensional, but three-dimensional. This complicates, if not prevents, manipulation of the overall graphic information because, upon removal of one of the partial graphic information layers, the overall information is destroyed or at least corrupted, i.e., corrupted. not completely recognizable. This may be due to missing areas of the overall graphical information but also due to altered color representation of the overall graphical information to the viewer. Furthermore, it is achieved that the security element is no longer directly accessible, as in the prior art, but is integrated in the layer structure of the security and / or value document. It is no longer formed by the topmost and thus exposed layer.

Imaging technologies are all known techniques of generating optically perceptible information. This includes in particular all in the field of Security and / or value documents usual printing techniques both in black and white as well as in color (also partial colors). However, this also includes, for example, laser engraving and / or thermal sublimation, retransfer, etc. The term "different technologies" refers to each individual and different technology in the process of producing an image.

A security element is a mostly visually perceptible graphical representation which is not personalized, i.e. does not contain information about a person who is the sponsor of the security and / or value document. A security element can be the same for all security and / or value documents of a type. However, security elements can also be individualized, for example by means of a (non-personal) serial number or the like. Other examples of non-optical security features are e.g. Substrate features that are mechanically detectable, haptic features, etc. These are known in the art to those skilled in the art.

A total graphic information composed of partial graphic information forms a graphic unit, ie the removal of partial graphic information for alienation or mutilation of the perceived total information. For example, in the case of images as overall graphic information, the sub-information may be (partially) formed as a combination of combinations of different sub-color images, a black and white image, having one or more different colors overlaid, etc., represent. In any case, it is essential that the partial information in the spatial arrangement be defined and assigned to one another. As a result, register-accurate attachment in the course of a manufacturing process is ensured. Each sub-information therefore also has a set of location coordinates which define the location and orientation of the sub-information.

A security and / or valuable document is typically constructed with a planar substrate, on whose one side or both sides thereof at least one layer, for example a printed layer, is applied. Suitable materials for a substrate are all customary materials on paper and / or plastic in question. The substrate is not necessarily formed from a layer, but in turn may be composed of a plurality of layers, for example, films (laser-capable, non-laserable, opaque, inlay with chip, etc.). It may also be transparent or translucent, or have a transparent or translucent window. In the case of a multi-layered substrate, the bonding of the various substrate layers may be effected together in the same way as the bonding with layers applied to the substrate according to the invention, for example in a single joining step, e.g. Laminating or gluing.

Two layers of a security and / or value document or the partial graphic information which are mounted in or on the layers are register-accurate when the graphic sub-information arranged in different layers, projected in directions orthogonal to a main surface of the security and / or value document, is added to the overall information.

Im Einzelnen bestehen verschiedene Möglichkeiten der Weiterbildung der Erfindung. In detail, there are various possibilities of development of the invention.

The overall graphic information will usually, but not necessarily, be an image of a person or a body part of a person, in particular a passport photograph or a fingerprint. The overall information can also be person-related information, such as name, address, etc., act. In addition to personalized information, individualized, e.g. Document-related information, such as a serial number, is the aggregate information.

As security elements, all known in the field of security and / or value documents variants come into question. These include in particular optically variable elements, diffractive elements, holograms, volume holograms, embossed holograms, transparent Kinegram overlay, kinegram, zero order gratings, visible or invisible luminescent, in particular fluorescent or phosphorescent elements, substrate features such as photochromic colors, thermochromic colors, etc., and combinations of such elements. The person skilled in the production of such security elements is well known and therefore, a detailed description can be omitted here.

In detail, the layer structure of a security and / or value document according to the invention can be designed differently.

  1. a) Eine Substratschicht

For the first, the following layer structure can be provided:
  1. a) A substrate layer
  2. b) Optionally a layer with a laser-sensitive component, laser-engraved with a first partial information,
  3. c) A color print layer with a second partial information

  5. e) A protective layer which is optionally provided with a laser-sensitive component and is laser-engraved with the first or a further partial information.

Eine Alternative ist der folgende Schichtaufbau:

  1. a) Eine Substratschicht
An alternative is the following layer structure:
  1. a) A substrate layer
  2. b) Optionally a layer with a laser-sensitive component, laser-engraved with a first partial information,
  3. c) a layer with the security element,
  4. d) A color printing layer with a second partial information, and
  5. e) a protective layer, which optionally provided with a laser-sensitive component and with the first or a further sub-information is laser-engraved.

Eine weitere Alternative ist der folgende Schichtaufbau:

  1. a) Eine Substratschicht
Another alternative is the following layer structure:
  1. a) A substrate layer
  2. b) Optionally a layer with a laser-sensitive component, laser-engraved with a first partial information,
  3. c) a first color printing layer with a second partial information,
  4. d) an intermediate layer having a topography comprising at least two height levels,
  5. e) a second color printing layer with a third partial information which is applied at both height levels or only at one of the two height levels of the intermediate layer,
  6. f) A layer with the security element, and
  7. g) A protective layer which is optionally laser-engraved with a laser-sensitive component with the first or a further partial information.

In the variant of the preceding paragraph, the layer c) may also be omitted. Then, the partial information designated there as second and third partial information form a first and a second partial information.

As a result, with the embodiment having topography, which is of independent significance, information is applied to a height-structured area having at least two height levels, whereby the information in two Partial information in different levels or height levels falls apart. A counterfeiter would have to perform this in at least two levels or heights for the purpose of manipulating the information or the image, which is very cumbersome and expensive, if not impossible.

The information described above and below, such as images, are usually visible to the human eye. However, it is also possible to make the partial information, in part or all partial information, invisible to the human eye, for example as a UV image. Otherwise, all versions apply analogously.

An important embodiment of the invention comprises the arrangement of the security element, for example a kinegram, between different layers in which partial information is arranged. In the case of a kinegram, this can be done, for example, by stamping the respective surfaces in the course of the production of the layer composite.

Information, for example an image, such as a color image, can also be secured by another image, for example as a laser engraving, above or below the information, possibly in combination with a security element, such as a kinegram or a TKO film. is arranged. In this case, the further image and / or the security element can be designed such that they do not represent un-personalized information.

A substrate layer may be formed from one or more substrate sublayers. On the one hand, materials are transparent, opaque or opaque polymeric materials, such as PC (polycarbonate, especially bisphenol A polycarbonate), PET (polyethylene glycol terephthalate), PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate), TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers), PE (polyethylene), PP (polypropylene), PI (polyimide or poly-trans-isoprene), PVC (polyvinyl chloride) and copolymers of such polymers. "The use of PC materials for at least one layer of the substrate layer is preferred, whereby so-called low-Tg materials can preferably be used g- materials are polymers whose glass transition temperature is below 140 ° C. A substrate layer is also referred to as a card or document blank and is usually formed from a plurality of polymer layers, wherein at least one of the polymer layers, usually several polymer layers, is a conventional one A printing layer, for example a guilloche, can or can carry one of the polymers c can also be an electronic circuit (engl. Integrated Circuit, IC), a display module or other electronic circuit or contain this component embedded. The polymer layers of the substrate layer are connected to each other, for example by gluing, or by thermal lamination. However, the term substrate layer also includes monolithically produced card blanks, for example by way of injection molding or transfer molding, reactive or non-reactive. In that sense must a substrate layer may not necessarily be made of multiple polymer layers. But this will be the case with most security and / or value documents.

A printing layer can be formed by means of a layer of a printing ink, but the term also encompasses a polymer layer in which the printing ink is applied or incorporated, for example by diffusion of the dyes of the printing ink. In the latter case, the print layer may be formed on the basis of a (printed and otherwise preferably transparent) polymer such as PVC, ABS, PETG. These are polymers into which the colorants of an applied printing ink can diffuse at elevated temperature. In principle, all digital printing processes, for example thermal printing processes, such as thermal sublimation printing, come into question as printing processes. A printing layer formed in this way can be arranged directly on and / or under a polymeric barrier layer which is not receptive to the colorant, for example based on PET or PC. This ensures that further diffusion of the colorant during the life of the security and / or value document in directions orthogonal to the main surface of the security and / or value document is prevented, whereby a blurring of the printed image is reduced. The printed image is therefore more durable than without the barrier layer. Other printing methods include re-transfer, inkjet, xerography, etc. A color print layer may consist of a Color (including black) or be formed of several different colors. In this respect, the overall graphic representation can be black / white, monochrome or multicolored.

A security and / or value document according to the invention may contain at least one layer with a laser-sensitive component. In this case, the laser-sensitive component is embedded in or formed by a polymer matrix. In principle, the polymer matrix may be one of the generally transparent polymer materials described for other layers. The laser-sensitive component may be a polymer which per se locally pyrolyzes itself by laser irradiation and so makes it black. Suitable polymers are explained below in connection with laser-sensitive pigments. However, the laser-sensitive component may also be a laser-sensitive pigment which is mixed with the polymer material of the relevant polymer layer and distributed therein. As laser-sensitive pigments, all known in the technological field of safety and / or value products pigments can be used. They may for example be formed from organic polymers which have a high absorption of the laser radiation, for example PET, ABS, polystyrene, PPO, polyphenylene sulfide, polyphenylene sulfone, polyimidesulfone. But it can also be, for example, LCPs. Particularly suitable are micro-ground thermoplastics with a very high melting range of more than 300 ° C. The particle size is typically in the Range of 0.01 to 100 .mu.m, in particular 0.1 to 50 .mu.m, preferably 1 to 20 microns. The polymer particles may further contain light-sensitive fillers or pigments, for example in an amount of from 0.1 to 90% by weight, based on the laser-sensitive pigment. These may also be electrically conductive pigments and / or effect pigments and / or dyes, as described above. It may also be oxides, hydroxides, sulfides, sulfates or phosphates of metals such as Cu, Bi, Sn, Zn, Ag, Sb, Mn, Fe, Ni, or Cr. In particular, basic Cu (II) hydroxide phosphate can be used. Specific mention is a product of the heating of blue Cu (II) orthophosphate (Cu 3 (PO 4 ) 2 * 3H 2 O) to 100 to 200 ° C is formed and a molecular formula Cu 3 (PO 4 ) 2 * Cu (OH) 2 has. Other suitable copper phosphates are: Cu 3 (PO 4 ) 2 * 3Cu (OH) 2 , Cu 3 (PO 4 ) 2 * 2Cu (OH) 2 * 2H 2 O, 4CuO * P 2 O 5 , 4CuO * P 2 O 5 * 3H 2 O, 4CuO * P 2 O 5 * 1.5H 2 O and 4CuO * P 2 O 5 * 1.2H 2 O.
Suitable laser radiation for laser engraving has a wavelength in the range 150 nm to 10600 nm, in particular 150 nm to 1100 nm. For example, CO 2 lasers (10600 nm), Nd: YAG lasers (1064 nm or 532 nm), and pulsed UV lasers (excimer lasers) can be used. The energy density is generally in the range of 0.1 mJ / cm 2 to 50 J / cm 2 , in particular in the range of 0.3 mJ / cm 2 to 20 J / cm 2 .

A protective layer is typically transparent and formed of one of the polymeric materials described above for other layers. A protective layer may be a polymeric film or a lacquer layer with a polymeric binder.

In the context of a security and / or value document according to the invention, one or more (transparent) intermediate layers can each be arranged between the layers described above.

A security and / or valuable document according to the invention can be, for example, an identity card, a passport, an ID card, an access control card, a visa, a tax stamp, a ticket, a driver's license, a motor vehicle paper, a banknote, a check, a postage stamp, a credit card , a bank card, a chip card or a self-adhesive label.

A topography refers to a surface having a height structure with respect to directions orthogonal to the surface, i. at least two different height levels. The height levels may have relative to each other distances, with respect to directions orthogonal to the surface, which are in the range of 0.001 to 100 .mu.m, in particular in the range of 0.01 to 10 or 1 .mu.m. Such topographies can be, for example, in polymer layers by way of high-low embossing, u.a. by stamping, produce.

The invention further relates to a method for producing a security and / or value document according to the invention, with the following method steps:
  1. a) a 2-dimensional personalized graphic summary information is in at least two decomposing two-dimensional partial graphic information, wherein the two two-dimensional graphic partial information are stored and assigned to each other with respect to the arrangement and orientation in the two dimensions,
  2. b) a substrate layer is optionally coated with a layer of laser-sensitive pigments and laser-engraved with a first partial graphic information or coated with a printing layer which represents the first partial graphic information,
  3. c) on the substrate layer or the layer, a printing layer with the second graphic sub-information is applied in register with the first graphic sub-information,
  4. d) a protective layer optionally provided with laser-sensitive pigments is applied to the printing layer and optionally laser-engraved with the first graphic sub-information in register with the second graphic sub-information or printed with the first graphic sub-information in register with the second graphic sub-information,
wherein the first partial graphic information is laser-engraved in either the laser-sensitive pigment layer or the protective layer, and wherein the layer and / or the protective layer may be replaced by a printed layer having the first partial graphic information and optionally covered with a protective layer between the printing layer and the substrate layer or between the printing layer and the protective layer, a layer with a security element is introduced and wherein in the case of laser engraving, the laser engraving in any temporal stage of the process, in particular also for the completion of the process can be attached.

Specifically, the chronological layer structure corresponding to the spatial layer structures, as described above, take place, which is usually done as the last step, the laser engraving, if the first part information is introduced as a laser engraving and not as a print layer. If intermediate layers are set up, their introduction is chronologically interposed according to their arrangement. Even in the case of a print layer with the first sub-information as the print layer with the second sub-information overlying a protective layer is usually set up, which optionally contains a laser-sensitive component and further optionally with information, such as a third sub-information or independent of the overall information laser-engraved for other information. The same applies to intermediate layers or printing layers selbt.

In the FIG. 1 If one recognizes a security and / or value document 1, for example an identity card 1, with a graphical total information 2, in the exemplary embodiment a colored passport photograph. The viewing direction R is orthogonal to the main surface H of the security and / or value document 1. This figure can not be removed, but from a comparative analysis with the FIGS. 2 to 6 it can be seen that the total graphic information 2 is formed from at least two partial graphic information 3, 4, which overlap register-accurate. Furthermore, one recognizes a security element 7, for example a hologram 7, which at least partially overlaps the overall graphic information (2) and thereby protects it.

In the FIG. 2 one recognizes a first variant of the invention. It has the following layer structure. A substrate layer 9, which generally has no laser-sensitive component, has three Substrate layers on, of course, any other number of substrate sublayers (even one) may be provided. The above statements on the substrate layer 9 apply analogously to the following embodiments. On the substrate layer 9 is a layer 5a, optionally applied with a laser-sensitive component. Then a color printing layer 6 is applied with a second part information 4. This is partially covered overlapping with a layer 10 with the security element 7. On the composite thus formed, a protective layer 8, which is optionally provided with a laser-sensitive component, is provided as the uppermost layer. The first part information 3 is laser-engraved in one of the two (or both) layers 5a and / or 8, for which purpose at least one of the two layers 5a and / or 8 necessarily has a laser-sensitive component. The layer with laser-engraved first partial information 3 can also be replaced by a printed layer (not shown), which represents the first partial information 3. Then, a protective layer will optionally be arranged on this printing layer.

In the FIG. 3 one recognizes a second variant of the invention. On the (in the example but not necessarily two-layered) substrate layer 9 is a layer 5a with a laser-sensitive component, laser-engraved with a first part information 3, respectively. This is followed by a color printing layer 6. This is covered with a layer 10 with a security element 7, which is designed here as TKO (Transparent Kinegram Overlay), at. Finally, a protective layer 8 is provided, which is optionally provided with a laser-sensitive component and (optionally as an alternative to the layer 5a) is laser-engraved with the first part information 3. Here, too, the layer with laser-engraved first partial information 3 can be replaced by a printed layer, which represents the first partial information 3. If the printing layer with the first partial information 3 is arranged above the color printing layer 6, it will be advisable to cover the former again with a protective layer.

In the FIG. 4 one recognizes a third variant of the invention. On the (in example but not necessarily two-layer) substrate layer 9, a layer 5a with a laser-sensitive component, laser-engraved with a first part of information 3, arranged. This is followed by a layer 10 with a security element 7. Then a color printing layer 6 is arranged with a second part information 4. Finally, a protective layer 8 is provided, which is optionally provided with a laser-sensitive component and (optionally as an alternative to the layer 5a) is laser-engraved with the first part information 3. The advantage of this variant is that the security element 7 is arranged between the layers 5a, 6 and thus embedded in the composite and thus particularly well protected against unauthorized manipulation or removal. Also, one of the two partial information 3, 4 or both partial information 3, 4 are better secured in the case of direct connection to the security element 7.

In general, it should be noted that, in all the preceding and following variants, the layer with first partial information formed as a laser engraving can, of course, instead also be embodied as a black / white or color printing layer. Thus, for example, several color printing layers with different-colored partial information 3, 4 overlap to a total information 2, which appears as a color image in true colors. Furthermore, the substrate layer can also contain or carry a background image, for example a static (possibly colored) pattern. The first partial information 3 can then serve to cover this pattern with the proviso that the second partial information 4 in conjunction with the first partial information 3 results in a total information 2 not falsified by the static pattern.

In the FIG. 5 one recognizes a fourth variant of the invention. A substrate layer 9 carries a layer 5a with a laser-sensitive component, laser-engraved with a first partial information 3. The layer 5a simultaneously has the function of an intermediate layer 11 with a topography comprising at least two height levels. Then, at a height level, a first color printing layer 6a having a second partial information 4 and at the other height level a second color printing layer 6b having a third partial information 4 are applied. The second part information 4 and the third part information 4 of this embodiment together correspond to the second part information of the above embodiments, but a split into two Height levels is done. For this, however, no decomposition into further "subpart information" must take place; rather, the color printing layers 6a, 6b can be applied in a single printing process, for example a digital printing technology customary in the field of security and value documents, such as inkjet printing. Subsequently, a layer 10 is applied with the security element 7, which is covered with a protective layer 9. Another image 6c with information, partial information or background image, for example a color image, may be provided at the position shown in the layer sequence.

The variant of FIG. 6 is different from the variant of FIG. 5 essentially in that the intermediate layer 11 is formed as a discrete layer different from the layer 5a with the laser-sensitive component, and that the layer 10 with the security element 7 is arranged between the layer 5a with the laser-sensitive component and the intermediate layer 11. This variant has the additional advantage that, due to the topography of the intermediate layer 11, the protective layer 8 can ultimately also have a corresponding topography, which results, for example, when the protective layer 8 is simply laminated onto the intermediate layer 11 by the material of the protective layer 8. Such a topography and the protective layer 8 is haptically detectable and can serve as an additional security feature. Another picture, according to the picture 6c of the FIG. 5 , may be provided below the layer 5a.

The variant of FIG. 7 differs from the variant of FIG. 5 in that the security element 7 is applied to the surface-forming layer 5a, for example glued or laminated on. Otherwise, the haptic effect of the variant of FIG. 6 achieved because topography of the layer 5a forms the surface at least in part.

The variant of FIG. 8 comprises a substrate layer 9, which carries a layer 5a with a laser-sensitive component, laser-engraved with a first partial information 3. The layer 5a simultaneously has the function of an intermediate layer 11 with a topography comprising at least two height levels. Then, at a height level, a first color printing layer 6a having a second partial information 4 and at the other height level a second color printing layer 6b having a third partial information 4 are applied. The second part information 4 and the third part information 4 of this embodiment together correspond to the second part information of the above embodiments, but split into two levels of height. For this, however, no decomposition into further "subpart information" must take place; rather, the color printing layers 6a, 6b can be applied in a single printing process, for example a digital printing technology customary in the field of security and value documents, such as inkjet printing. Subsequently, a layer 10 with the security element 7 is applied, which with a layer 9a with a laser-sensitive Component, optionally laser-engraved with the first part of information 3 or a first part-part information 3a, is covered. In this respect, the first information 3 can also form part information of the first part information 3. The first information 3 and 3a may also be identical. The first part information 3 can also represent only a background image.

The variant of FIG. 9 Corresponds to the core of the FIG. 8 and differs therefrom in that between the printing layers 6a, 6b and the layer 9a, a non-laserable intermediate layer 12 is arranged. Instead of the first part information 3a and / or the layer 9a, a TKO 9a can also be provided.

In the variant of FIG. 10 which at the core of the variant of FIG. 6 However, instead of the security element 10, 7 on the layer 5a and below the layer 11, a TKO is arranged on the printing layer 6a, 6b and / or a lacquer layer with a laser-sensitive component, optionally laser-engraved, is arranged, the topography of the layer 5a is reproduced with the lacquer layer 14 and consequently the lacquer layer has a substantially the same topography of the layer 5a.

In principle, it is advantageous to design the various layers, but at least some of the layers, with regard to the material used and the joining technique such that a cohesive connection is created between the layers.
