Description

Arrangement for placing a large advertisement banner or similar of pliable material to its place of use
The present invention relates to an arrangement for placing a large adver- tisement banner or the like of a pliable material to its place of use, said arrangement comprising hoisting means for lifting the banner to a desired location and fastening means for securing the banner in place. The invention relates further to an illuminated advertisement stand, which features an illuminated back section and a replaceable advertisement section.
In terms of their surface area, such advertisement banners can be in the order ranging from about 4 m2 to as much as about 100 m2 or even more, whereby securing the same in their place of use, which may be located at a very considerable height or in an otherwise hard-to-reach location, will be problematic, necessitating e.g. the use of a crane truck. Banners in locations of a lower height can be secured by means of ladders, but the large size makes it often very awkward and time consuming, usually requiring the work input of several persons.
An object of the present invention is to provide a relatively simple solution for securing such large advertisement banners, and in order to accomplish this objective, an arrangement of the invention is characterized in that the hoisting means include an elongated pulling element, which is adapted to circle around deflecting members mounted on support structures substan- tially at the banner's corners, said pulling element establishing, in its tightened condition, a banner-encircling attachment frame, and an actuator for the pulling element for tightening and loosening the pulling element; and that the fastening means include attachment points formed in the banner in the vicinity of its edges, and brackets enabling the banner's attachment points to be coupled with the pulling element. An illuminated advertisement stand according to the invention is in turn characterized by what is presented in the characterizing clause of the independent claim 8.
The solution according to the invention enables attaching an advertisement banner to a pulling element from the ground by loosening the pulling element to such an extent that it can be reached by a person securing the advertisement banner. The use of spring catches or the like releasable brackets enables the advertisement banner to be quickly snapped on to the pulling element, followed by tightening the pulling element by using for example a manual or motor-driven winch, whereby the banner rises up to a span of use defined by pulling-element deflecting members and tightens securely in place. Particularly in connection with the largest advertisement banners, the attachment frame established by the pulling element can have one or more of its sides, e.g. its top side and bottom side, further provided with one or more additional wheels, which support the pulling element along a span between the corner wheels, thus lessening the need of tightening the pulling element
The arrangement according to the invention is useful both in connection with permanent wall structures and as mounted on various frames, such as for example scaffolding or standalone advertisement stands. The invention is also conceivable for other applications, such as for securing various tarpaulins and the like to scaffolding or wall structures.
The invention will now be described more closely with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a schematic frontal view of principle, showing the essential elements for an arrangement of the invention, and Fig. 2 is a schematic view in cross-section, showing the essential elements for an illuminated advertisement billboard of the invention.
In reference to fig. 1, the arrangement according to the invention for placing a large advertisement banner or the like of a pliable material to its place of use comprises deflecting wheels 3a-3d mounted on support structures (not shown), around which is adapted to extend an elongated pulling element 2 which in the illustrated embodiment is a cable. The pulling element can also be for example a rope, a belt or the like. The cable 2 is connected at one end 2a thereof to an actuator 4, which can be for example a manual or motor- driven winch. As the cable 2 is tightened by means of the winch 4 over the deflecting wheels 3a-3d, the cable 2 establishes a frame, which essentially encircles the advertisement banner 1 and to which the banner is secured by means of brackets 6 fitted in attachment holes 5. The brackets 6 can be for example spring catches, shackles or the like releasable brackets, which are fitted around the cable 2 in such a way that the cable is allowed to pass through the bracket 6. In the illustrated embodiment, at each corner of the banner 1 is made an attachment hole 5a, which is common to clamping members 8a, 8b straddling a respective deflecting wheel 3a and engaged by link elements 6a, 6b and 7 with said attachment hole 5a. Both clamping members 8a, 8b, which fit around the cable 2, are provided with respective wheel members 9a, 9b for facilitating a run of the cable. The link elements 6a, 6b can be components similar to the brackets 6 and likewise the link element 7 engaging the link element 6a, 6b with the attachment hole 5a can be for example a spring catch, a shackle or for example a permanent metal ring. Such an arrangement, in which each deflecting wheel 3a-3d is straddled by a pulley or the like clamping element, provided with the wheel member 9a, 9b set against the cable, allows a consistent tightening of the cable for a frame encircling the advertisement banner 1 and a convenient loosening for bringing the banner down. The clamping members 8a, 8b may also be engaged directly with the attachment hole 5a or some other attachment point without separate link members 6a, 6b, 7. In the advertisement banner arrangement shown in fig. 1, the middlemost spring catches 6b or the like present on the longer top and bottom sides are slightly shorter than the other spring catches on the same side and, respectively, the middlemost spring catches 6c on the vertical sides are shorter than the other spring catches on the vertical sides, which enables maintaining the advertisement banner 1 substantially straight along all of its sides, notwithstanding a slight inward deflection of the cable 2 over a length between the deflecting wheels. Instead of the deflecting wheels 3a-3d, other conceivable options for use as deflecting means placed at the corners are also e.g. arcuate bearing surfaces, which are provided with a guide groove for the pulling element, said groove being preferably coated with a low friction material, or some other deflecting means allowing a smooth run of the pulling element.
Instead of the attachment holes 5, 5a, the advertisement banner can be provided e.g. with attachment rings, extending away from the edge region. The attachment rings can be made e.g. of metal or the same pliable material as the banner itself. The attachment holes 5, 5a are preferably reinforced with sail eyelets or the like.
In reference to fig. 2, there is shown one solution according to the invention for constructing an illuminated advertisement stand, said illuminated advertisement stand comprising an illuminated back section 12 and a replaceable advertisement section 2. Illumination of the back section 12 can be effected for example by means of a light source (not shown) positioned behind the back section as seen from the direction of the replaceable advertisement section 2. The light source can also be positioned in the advertisement stand's various edge regions. In the illuminated advertisement stand according to the invention, the back section consists of a fabric type material which is clamped to support members 13 by means of a separate hollow fastening moulding 14. On a side of the fastening moulding facing the back fabric is a slot 18, the back fabric 12 extending therethrough. The back fabric 12 has its edge formed with a bulge 15, which is placed in the fastening moulding's cavity to retain the fabric within the fastening moulding as the fabric 12 is clamped in place. The fastening moulding 14 is attached to the support members 13 for example by means of a bolt 16 and a nut 17 capable of es- tablishing a desired tightness for the back fabric. The support member 13 can be for example a frame of aluminum section, which can be fixed e.g. to wall structures, scaffolding or a stand member for providing a standalone illuminated billboard. In the embodiment of fig. 2, the same aluminum section 13 is provided with deflecting wheels 3, around which passes a pulling cable 2 to which can be secured an advertisement banner or the like as depicted in fig. 1. The replaceable advertisement section can be adapted to be secured also inn some other way instead of using the arrangement of fig. 1.
