Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a runner for a climbing protection system for preventing a user from falling off a ladder, a pedestal or the like.
  • the runner is guided along a rope and jams when a user crashes on the rope.
  • the rotor has a guide device for the cable and a rotatably mounted clamping lever which has an eccentric at a first end facing the cable and an abutment point at a second end protruding from the housing.
  • Fall arrest systems usually consist of a rope, for example a wire rope, and a guided on the rope, trailing fall arrester, which is hereinafter referred to as a runner.
  • the cable may be attached to a structure or the like by means of cable end connections, a cable tensioner and fastening elements.
  • a user of the climbing protection system is connected via a safety harness with the runner, which runs along with the user.
  • the safety harness is connected to the clamping lever of the runner, which, in the event of a user's fall, ensures that the runner is clamped to the rope of the fall arrest system so as to prevent the free fall of the user.
  • Such a runner is offered under the product name SKC by Antec (now Sperian Fall Protection Company), 35-37 rue de la Bidauderie, BP334, 18103 Vierzon, France.
  • a snap hook which connects the harness of a user with the runner, is secured in an eyelet at one end of a clamping lever.
  • the clamping lever is rotatably mounted in the rotor and is pivoted in a crash by the train which the safety harness exerts on him, so that the eccentric of the clamping lever presses against the guided in the guide device of the rotor rope and the runner clamps on the rope. Furthermore, the clamping lever closes when using the Runner a gap along the guide device, which must be opened for attaching the rotor on the rope.
  • the gap is closed when using the runner by a plastic lever, which must first be folded back before the runner can be removed from the rope.
  • the carabiner must be separated from the runner, otherwise the clamping lever can not be pivoted so far that it releases the gap.
  • a runner of the type described above is generally known, to which also a snap hook can be attached, which connects the safety harness of a user with the runner.
  • a locking lever is released and a clamping lever to which the snap hook is attached, is pivoted upwards.
  • a jaw of the clamping lever is pressed against the rope. Further, the jaw closes when using the rotor, the gap along the guide means of the rotor.
  • a problem of the runners for a climbing protection system of the type described above is that they are not suitable for use in a fall arrest system whose rope is secured by intermediate brackets to a structure or the like, since the runner is not movable over such intermediate brackets. The runner must be transferred by hand to such intermediate holders.
  • a climbing protection device consisting of a tensioned by a plurality of intermediate holder rope and a catching device which is movable along the rope.
  • the catching device has a U-shaped bent part, which surrounds the rope of the climbing protection device, and a retaining cam which is rotatably mounted.
  • the rope between the retaining cam and the U-shaped bent part is clamped so that the catcher is locked to the rope.
  • the catcher can be removed or attached at any time from the rope.
  • two independent mechanisms must be operated. The two Mechanisms are arranged so that they can not be operated with one hand.
  • the invention is therefore an object of the invention to provide a runner for a climbing protection system that is movable over intermediate holder of the fall arrest system when the runner is secured to the rope, and provides higher user safety than the known fall arrest systems.
  • the rotor has a slide for opening and at least partially closing a gap of the guide device, wherein the slider is biased into the gap at least partially closing, first position, and a first locking device, which the slider in the blocks the gap at least partially closing, first position and which is releasable to allow a displacement of the slider in a second position in which the gap is open.
  • the clamping lever and the slide of the rotor work independently. At the outwardly projecting end of the clamping lever, the user is connected to the runner.
  • the clamping lever is generally biased by a spring into its clamping position, wherein the force exerted by the spring force on the clamping lever torque is overcome by the opposing torque generated by the own weight of the rotor when pulled up the harness along the rope becomes.
  • the slider secures the runner in use on the rope of the fall arrest system. The fact that the slider is biased to the first position and the first locking device blocks it in this position, the user must first actuate the slider and the first locking means to move the cable through the gap of the guide means.
  • the slider closes the gap of the guide means when using the rotor not completely.
  • the gap width when using the rotor is then such that it is smaller on the one hand than the diameter of the rope and on the other hand sufficiently large, so that the runner can pass in the secured state intermediate holder of the rope.
  • the runner does not have to be detached from the rope to pass an intermediate holder of the climbing protection system, whereby the user safety is increased.
  • a slipping out of the rope from the guide device during use of the rotor is prevented.
  • the first locking device allows the slide sufficient clearance to open the gap of the guide device so far that the runner can pass it when the slide abuts an intermediate holder of the rope ,
  • the rotor according to the invention can be used in climbing protection systems with different rope diameters.
  • Ropes with a diameter of 9.5 mm (3/8 inch) are usually used in the USA, whereas in Europe usually ropes with a diameter of 8 mm or 10 mm are used.
  • the guide device is preferably dimensioned so that cables of different diameters can be accommodated.
  • the slider is then in turn dimensioned so that on the one hand it can open the gap so that even thicker ropes fit through, and on the other hand, it can close the gap so far that thinner ropes can not slip out of the guide means when using the rotor.
  • the first end of the clamping lever which ensures that the runner clamps on the rope in the event of a user's fall, is dimensioned so that it can unfold its clamping action on cables of different diameters.
  • the clamping lever may have different shapes.
  • the first end of the clamping lever is bent so that the first end is pointing downwards when the runner in a predetermined orientation is placed on the rope.
  • the kinked first end of the clamping lever is rounded so that the point of contact of the rope performs an eccentric movement when the clamping lever moves into the clamping position.
  • the clamping lever has a symmetrical shape.
  • the clamping lever is then designed anchor-shaped, so that the clamping lever is symmetrical along its longitudinal axis.
  • the clamping lever and in particular its first end of the rotor can act as a fall protection in both directions, since its first end is always moved in the event of a crash of the user in a clamping position.
  • care must be taken when placing the runner on the rope that the runner is placed in a predetermined orientation.
  • Another advantage of the present invention is that the runner can be placed anywhere on the rope of the fall arrest system and removed again by the gap is opened.
  • two mechanisms must be operated, thereby preventing inadvertent release of the traveler from the rope. That is, only when the first locking device is released, the gap can be opened by moving the slider.
  • the first locking device blocks the slider, inadvertent operation of the slider can not release the slider from the cable.
  • the first locking device is designed to be movable, so that it blocks the slider in a first position and permits a displacement of the slider in a second position.
  • the first locking device is biased by a spring in the first position to normally block the slider for safety reasons. Only when the user moves the first locking device against the spring force in the second position, the slider can be moved.
  • the first locking device has a Bolt, which has a region of reduced diameter in its longitudinal direction and is axially displaceable and is provided on the slide a detent which is formed so that the region of reduced diameter of the bolt is aligned with the latch when the bolt is pressed to move of the slider in its second position. That is, in order to move the slider, the bolt must be displaced so that upon actuation of the slide, the locking lug strikes the area of reduced diameter of the bolt, so that the locking lug can pass through the bolt.
  • the first locking device which has a bolt, thus functions such that the latching lug of the slider strikes a region with the actual bolt diameter when the locking device is in the first position and strikes a region of reduced diameter when the locking device in the second Position is.
  • the slider is movable substantially at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the guide device and thus at right angles to the cable.
  • the slider can be formed so that it at least partially closes the gap over the entire length of the guide device. Then, the runner can better lead along the rope, since the slider reliably prevents leakage of the rope from the guide device.
  • the runner only acts in one direction as a fall protection and must therefore be placed in the predetermined orientation on the rope.
  • the front end of the bent clamping lever shows obliquely downwards.
  • the runner preferably has a second locking means for locking the slider in its first position when the user attempts to place the runner in an inverted orientation on the rope; the gap then can not be opened, and the runner can not be placed on the rope.
  • the second locking device is used in a runner, which in an oblique or vertical climbing protection system only in one Direction on the rope may be secured. Because if the runner were secured in the wrong direction on the rope, the clamping lever could no longer be effective in the event of a user crash.
  • the second locking device consists of a locking pin, which is movably mounted in the housing of the slider and which falls by its own weight in a bore in the housing of the rotor when the rotor is placed in the wrong orientation on the rope, whereby the slider is blocked (anti upside-down).
  • two holes are provided into which the locking pin can fall to block the slider.
  • a first bore is disposed in the housing such that the slider is in its at least partially closed position when the locking pin falls into the bore. That is, the second locking device ensures that the runner can be opened only in a predetermined orientation to put it on the rope.
  • the clamping lever has a stop lug and a fall damper at its second end.
  • the carabiner need not be removed when opening or closing the gap of the guide means, since the clamping lever according to the present invention only performs the function of a brake for the rotor and is not used simultaneously as a closure for the gap. That is, according to the present invention, the clamp lever need not be moved to a predetermined position first to open the gap of the guide means. The opening and closing of the gap is controlled by the slider and the first locking device, which are independent of the clamping lever.
  • the shock absorber provides a damping of the impact force in the event of a user crash when the runner jerks to the rope.
  • the fall damper may be attached to the outwardly projecting end of the clamping lever or integrated therein.
  • Suitable shock absorbers are in the DE 295 01 716 U1 and the WO 99/49939 A1 described.
  • the fall arrester which thus acts as an energy absorbing element for the user in the event of a fall, can be made of stainless steel. However, the fall damper can also be made of other metallic materials or plastic.
  • the rotor according to the invention may in particular be made of stainless steel, plastic or aluminum.
  • the rotor according to the invention complies with the standard DIN EN 353-1 / A1 (Personal protective equipment against falling - Part 1: On-board fall arrest devices including fixed guidance, German version EN 353-1: 2002 / prA1: 2007).
  • the rotor 10 is part of a climbing protection system and is guided along a rope S.
  • the runner 10 has a rectangular housing 12, a guide device 14 in the form of a channel along one longitudinal side of the housing 12, a clamping lever 16 with a stop lug 24 and a first and second locking device 50 , 80 on.
  • the clamping lever 16 is rotatably mounted in the rotor 10 and is used in runners, which are provided for a climbing protection system with an obliquely or vertically tensioned rope S.
  • FIG. 1 shows the rotor in its non-clamping, normal position in which the clamping lever 16 does not protrude into the guide device 14.
  • the clamping lever 16 is biased by a clamping lever spring 20 in a clamping position in which it clamps the rotor 10 on the rope S, but the clamping lever 16 is in use under the weight of the rotor 10 is pivoted to the release position.
  • the clamping lever 16 is normally not on the rope S in the guide device 14 of the rotor 10, so that no friction occurs and movement of the rotor 10 on the rope S is not affected.
  • the clamping lever 16 of FIG. 1 is two-armed, and its first, the rope S facing arm 22 is angled downwards.
  • the rotor 10 is placed in the correct orientation on the rope S, since it can then act as fall protection.
  • the outer surface of the first arm 22 of the clamping lever facing the cable S is rounded so that the outer surface performs an eccentric movement when the clamping lever 16 is moved to the clamping position.
  • protruding from the housing arm of the clamping lever 16 has a stop lug 24 for attaching a carabiner 26 of the safety harness of the second arm.
  • a damping element 28 is provided, the effect of which will be described later.
  • Guide rollers 30 in the guide device 14 of the rotor 10 serve to guide the rope S of the climbing protection device.
  • the dimensioning of the guide means 14 is suitable for ropes S of different diameters (e.g., 8 mm, 10 mm, 3/8 inches). So that the clamping lever 16 in the use of the rotor 10 does not touch even thicker cables S in the guide device 14, the ratio between the spring force of the clamping lever spring 20 and the weight of the rotor 10 must be selected accordingly.
  • FIG. 2 shows the in FIG. 1 illustrated clamping lever 16 in the clamping position, which it occupies in a crash of the user.
  • the clamping lever 16 is therefore brought by the bias of the clamping lever spring 20 in the clamping position in which the end of the first arm 22 of Clamping lever 16 presses against the rope in the guide device 14, so that the rotor 10 is clamped to the rope S. That is, by the eccentric shape of the first arm 22 of the clamping lever 16, the rotor 10 jams on the rope S and prevents a free fall of the user.
  • the clamping lever 16 has a damping element 28 which is formed by a non-rectilinear shaped portion of the clamping lever 16 at its second end.
  • the damping element 28 is released at a certain load, for example, when the user crashes and the clamping lever 16 is moved to the clamping position. This dampens the impact force, thereby reducing the risk of injury to the user.
  • FIG. 3 shows a sectional view of a rotor 10 with a symmetrically shaped clamping lever 32.
  • the clamping lever 32 is also rotatably mounted in the rotor 10 but anchor-shaped, so that it is symmetrical along its longitudinal axis.
  • the end of the first arm 22a of the clamping lever 32 is formed substantially perpendicular to its longitudinal axis. Due to the symmetrical shape of the clamping lever 32, two clamping lever springs 20 are necessary, which hold the clamping lever 32 in a central position.
  • An advantage of the symmetrical clamping lever 32 is that it can be used on horizontal, inclined and vertical ropes. Since the clamping lever 32 is formed symmetrically, the rotor 10 can be placed according to this embodiment in both directions on the rope. Therefore, the rotor 10 requires according to FIG. 3 no second locking device, which prevents a placement of the rotor in the wrong orientation.
  • Spring bearings 21 for the guide rollers 30 are provided at the ends of the guide means 14.
  • the spring-loaded guide rollers 30 serve the cable guide and a certain delay of the rotor 10 in the movement on the rope S.
  • the runner 10 is slightly delayed by the rollers 30, so that the clamping lever 16 by the weight of the user, just his Halt has lost something pivoted and touched with its lower end of the first arm, the rope S and clamped so that the rotor 10 is locked on the rope S.
  • the guide device 14 is a channel with a continuous lateral gap 38.
  • the gap 38 can be opened or partially closed.

The helical compression springs 46 are used, the slider 40 in the gap 38 at least partially closing position (Fig. Fig. 4 ) to bias.
  • FIG. 5 shows the runner 10 of the FIG. 4 with the gap 38 open, that is, the slider 40 is retracted.
  • the open state of the gap 38 is thus achieved by the first locking device 50, ie the bolt 52 is pressed against the force of the helical compression spring 54 and then the slider 40 are moved against the force of the helical compression springs 46.
