Definitions

  • the invention relates to the field of hospital beds, and more specifically to medical beds for long-term care.
  • Such beds are mostly equipped with a braking system, allowing the locking of the casters when the bed, which has reached its destination, must remain stationary, for example during an examination or while the patient sleeps on it.
  • the braking systems comprise a brake, including a pad-like element attached to one end of a rod, near the wheel, the other end of the rod interacting with a cam.
  • the cam is integral with a shaft, integrated into a bed edge and controlling the brake: when the shaft pivots, it drives the cam, the cam then pushes on the rod and the shoe-like element descends and comes into contact with the roulette. The friction caused then opposes the rotation of the wheel.
  • the brake can be actuated electronically or mechanically.
  • the braking system can be operated independently on each wheel, as in the example described in the document WO 00/51830, from HILL ROM , or can be centralized, blocking being done simultaneously on each wheel, as described for example in the document US 2002/066142 to OSBORNE .
  • the presence of casters on a bed is generally associated with hospitals or other institutions providing medical care, and thus evokes illness for a user, while the bed can be used simply in the case where the user has reduced mobility or for increase comfort.
  • the mass of such beds can reach up to hundred kilograms, especially because of the equipment, for example barriers, an adjustable bed base or a stem, which may need the user.
  • the equipment for example barriers, an adjustable bed base or a stem, which may need the user.
  • it is necessary to keep the possibility of moving the bed. Therefore, it is best to keep wheels on the bed to facilitate its movement.
  • the first achievement is to connect the rods of the wheels to the bed.
  • the wheels are then in a retracted position when the frame is removed from the frame. Then, when the bed frame approaches the frame and reaches a height determined relative to the frame, the wheels come into contact with the ground. Thanks to the height adjustment device, the feet are then raised, and the bed rests on the wheels.
  • the height adjustment device is a column device. Another embodiment is given in the document DE 9421270 U .
  • the second embodiment consists in permanently leaving the wheels in contact with the ground.
  • the bed frame When the bed frame is removed from the frame, the bed rests on the feet, the casters being independent of the rest of the bed and supporting only their own weight.
  • the box spring is closer to the frame until it bears on the rods of the wheels, transferring its weight on it.
  • the device for adjusting the height of the bed base which always tends to bring the bed frame and the frame, then pulls on the feet that are reassembled.
  • the height adjustment device may be for example formed of braces actuated by an electric jack, which is reversed to raise the feet, as described in the document EP 1 913 847 of EDENA .
  • the rollers slide in the tubular feet so that when the bed rests on the feet, the casters are hidden from the user.
  • the medical aspect of the bed is then concealed, while the casters can still be used.
  • the height adjustment device is supported on the casters by means of the bed, and therefore any connection between the bed frame and a bed member is solicited during the lifting of the feet, and must therefore be designed in function, making the achievement of the independence of the bed base relative to the rest of the bed even more delicate.
  • the bed base takes support simultaneously on each wheel, so as not to destabilize the assembly or to break a roulette wheel. This supposes to maintain a sufficient flatness of the bed base, which can be difficult in particular because of the disturbances of the initial games which can occur during sudden movements of the user.
  • the points on which the bed base can be supported are limited to the number of rollers of the bed, typically four.
  • the bed frame is generally provided with specific bearing surfaces, able to come into contact with the rods of the rollers. It must therefore be possible to ensure a sufficiently precise guidance of these bearing surfaces of the bed base on the support points. The realization of this guidance can be tedious especially in the case where the bed is produced independently of the rest of the bed.
  • the present invention aims in particular to remedy these problems.
  • a first object of the invention is to provide a medical bed comprising a function of "household” wheels, simple and robust design.
  • a second object of the invention is to provide a medical bed comprising a function of "household” wheels for which the medical aspect is minimized by hiding the wheels.
  • a third object of the invention is to provide a medical bed comprising a function of "household” wheels whose bed is independent of the rest of the bed to be adapted to the needs of a patient.
  • the frame can easily move from the standing position to that on wheels independently of any external element.
  • the rods of the casters are mounted for example on a frame sliding relative to the frame provided with the feet, the upper end of the bars of the braces resting on the frame on wheels when the bed is in position on wheels. Only the guiding of the frame on wheels must be assured, the four casters following the frame.
  • the frame on wheels can be housed in the frame provided with the feet, a game being left between the two frames, so that there is only one apparent frame.
  • the frame on wheels comprises projecting lugs on which the bars of the braces abut when the frame is in position on wheels.
  • the upper end of the bars of the braces is provided with a bracket, so that the support on the rods of the rollers is a plane support.
  • the feet each comprise a hollow element in which a caster is slidably mounted, so as to hide the casters when the frame is in position on feet.
  • a sleeve can be attached around each hollow element, constituting a removable decorative element.
  • the feet are for example provided with pads, the pads being in contact with the ground when the bed is in position on feet, to prevent movement of the frame on feet.
  • rollers are permanently in contact with the ground.
  • the invention provides a medical bed comprising a chassis as described above, which further comprises an upper frame adapted to receive a sleeping surface, the upper frame being mounted on the upper end of the bars braces.
  • the bed thus formed can easily move from the standing position to the position on wheels, without the upper frame being taken into account, thus leaving the upper frame free in its design.
  • the bed 1 comprises a frame comprising a lower frame 3 and a device 5 for adjusting the height of a frame 4 greater than the lower frame 3.
  • the lower frame 3 includes two frames.
  • a first frame 6 comprises two longitudinal members 7 connected by two cross members 8 and feet 9 fixed at the intersection of the longitudinal members with the cross members.
  • the feet 9 are for example in the form of cylindrical hollow elements, of greater diameter than the wheels, open at both ends and welded between the cross members 8 and the longitudinal members 7.
  • a pad 10, that is to say an element with a high coefficient of friction can be fixed under each foot 9.
  • two holes 11 are distributed longitudinally on each crossbeam 8.
  • a second frame 12 also comprises two longitudinal members 13 connected by two crosspieces 14 and rollers 2 mounted at the end of rods 15 and fixed to the junction between the longitudinal members 13 and the crosspieces 14.
  • the beams 13 and cross members 14 of the second frame 12 are substantially longer than those of the first frame 6.
  • Each rod 15 can be pivotally mounted about its axis, so that the rollers 2 are multidirectional.
  • each crosspiece 14 comprises two lugs 16 projecting vertically, distributed longitudinally on the crosspiece 14.
  • the frame 6 on legs and the frame 12 on wheels are assembled so that the second frame 12 retains an accessible section on its upper face, opposite to the rollers 2, that is to say a section not covered by the first frame 6 .
  • the frame 6 on feet is hollow, and the cross members 14 and longitudinal members 13 of the frame 12 on wheels are housed respectively in the cross members 8 and 7 of the frame 6 on legs, so that the rods 15 and the rollers 2 are found in the hollow elements of the feet 9, that the lugs 16 of the second frame 12 are aligned with the holes 11 of the frame 6 on feet and they extend at least partially above the frame 6 on feet. The lugs 16 are then accessible. A vertical clearance is left between the first frame 6 and the second frame 12.
  • the bed 1 further comprises an upper frame 4 mounted on the frame, comprising for example a frame 17, on which is fixed a surface 18 of coating.
  • the coating surface 18 may comprise two parts hinged to the frame 17 about an axis parallel to the sleepers: a portion 19 for the legs of a user and a portion 20 for the bust.
  • the upper frame 4 may include equipment for a user such as a gallows, barriers or a head and a footboard.
  • the device 5 for adjusting the height of the upper frame 4 relative to the lower frame 3 is fixed on the frame 6 on feet and under the upper frame 4.
  • the bed 1 can then take two positions.
  • the device 5 In a first position, said feet, the upper frame 4 and the height adjustment device 5 are supported by the frame 6 on feet, in contact with the ground via the feet 9.
  • the device 5 is in a so-called normal mode, that is to say it operates to maintain the upper frame 4 at a height determined relative to the lower frame 3 according to the setting of a user, or the device 5 is inactive.
  • the frame 12 on wheels is independent of the rest of bed 1.
  • the weight of the upper frame 4, and therefore everything on it, including a user who would be installed, is supported by the frame 6 on the feet 9.
  • the bed 1 is thus immobilized by the pads 10, the rollers 2 not being usable, and the bed 1 is stable on the feet 9.
  • the device 5 is supported on the frame 12 on wheels and goes into a reverse mode, in which it works to bring the upper frame 4 of the frame 3 inferior.
  • a support on the free section of the frame 12 on wheels can raise the frame 6 on feet and thus the feet 9 by sliding the frame 12 on wheels in the frame 6 on feet.
  • the device 5 for adjusting the height is supported on the frame 12 on wheels, on its accessible section, through the upper frame 4, in contact with the frame 12 on wheels.
  • the weight of the frame 6 on feet and the device 5 for adjusting the height is transferred to the frame 12 on wheels via the connection between the upper frame 4 and the device 5.
  • the lifting of the frame 6 on feet is possible thanks to the clearance between the two frames 6 and 12.
  • the lifting height of the frame 6 on feet must be sufficient so that there is no point of contact between the frame 6 on feet and the ground. This height is a few millimeters, preferably less than 20 mm, to not unnecessarily reveal the wheels 2.
  • the device 5 of height adjustment brings the feet 9 in contact with the ground, then goes inactive, so that it no longer relies on the frame 12 on wheels which becomes independent, and the weight is again transferred to the frame 6 on feet.
  • the support being on the complete frame 12 on wheels, the number of points of support and the place where they are placed are not restricted. Thus, supports may be made also for example on the longitudinal members 13 of the frame 12 on wheels. In addition, a single point of support allows a distribution of the load on the entire frame 12 on wheels, and thus ultimately on all rollers 2. Thus, in the case where the contact is made with the upper frame 4 , and that there is a flatness defect, the risk of breaking a rod 15 of a wheel 2 is decreased.
  • the rollers 2 are in contact with the ground only when the upper frame 4 is at the minimum height of the frame 3.
  • the rods of the rollers are connected to the upper frame 4, so that when the frame 4 higher reaches a certain level, the rollers 2 come into contact with the ground, at the same time as the support on the frame 12 on wheels is achieved.
  • the wheels 2 are also raised.
  • the rollers 2 are permanently in contact with the ground.
  • the wheels 2 supporting no weight other than that of the frame 12 on wheels, they can not destabilize the bed 1.
  • the device 5 of the frame comprises two identical braces 22 and a system 23 for actuating the braces 22, for example an electric jack.
  • a spider 22 comprises two bars 24 and 25 pivoting relative to each other about an axis parallel to the sleepers placed in a central region of the bars 24 and 25.
  • the lower end of each bar 24 and 25 is mounted pivoting also about an axis parallel to the cross members 8 and 14 of the two frames 6 and 12.
  • the lower end of one of the two bars 24 and 25 is also slidably mounted along a spar 7 of the first frame 6, by for example in a gutter fixed to the spar 7.
  • the bars 24 and 25 of a spider 22 are mounted on the face of a spar 7 turned towards the inside of the first frame 6.
  • the two braces 22 are mounted on the frame 6 on feet so that the axis of rotation of the bars 24 and 25 relative to each other and the axis of rotation of the bars 24 and 25 relative to the frame 6 on the feet of the two braces 22 are aligned.
  • a connecting bar 26, parallel to the cross-members 8, is fixed between the non-slip bars 24 and 25 of the two braces 22.
  • the actuating system 23 is fixed on the one hand under a cross member 8 of the frame 6 on legs, and on the other hand on the bar 26 of the junction of the two braces 22.
  • the actuating system 23 tends to vary the angle between the upper ends of the bars 24 and 25 of the braces 22, and therefore the height of the upper ends relative to the frame 6 on feet.
  • the bars 24 and 25 are pivotally mounted on the upper frame 4.
  • the bars that are not mounted sliding on the frame 6 on feet are on the upper frame 4, and vice versa.
  • the upper frame 4 is lowered until it reaches a given height relative to the lower frame 3.
  • the adjustment device 5 being supported on the frame 12 on rollers, the actuating system 23 is then reversed to pull on the bar 26 for joining the braces 22, that is to say that it exerts a force tending to increase the angle between the bars 24 and 25 of the braces 22. This force is reflected in the frame 6 on feet which is raised.
  • the support of the adjustment device 5 on the frame 12 on wheels can be realized between an upper region 27 of the upper bars 24 and 25 of the braces 22 and the upper end of the lugs 16, projecting from the holes 11 of the frame 6 on feet.
  • a bracket 28 may be fixed thereto.
  • the bracket 28 comprises a plane surface 29, making contact with the lug 16 in the form of a plane support.
  • the plane surface 29 of the bracket 28 forms an angle ⁇ with a lower face of the bar 24, 25, for example between 0 ° and 10 °.
  • the weight of the frame 6 on feet and the height adjustment device 5 is directly transferred to the frame 12 on wheels without passing through the upper frame 4, the connection between the upper frame 4 and the bars 24 and 25 of the braces 22 are not then solicited.
  • the elements of the bed 1 are made for example of metal, such as aluminum, or alloy, for example stainless steel.
  • the metal elements of the lower frame 3 can be hidden for example by means of a decorated sleeve threaded over the hollow elements of the feet 9 and fixed under the first frame 6.
  • Decorative wooden boards can be hung removably on the rails 7 and the cross members 8 of the first frame 6.
  • the bed 1 thus described makes it possible to simply hide the rollers 2 while retaining the possibility of using it to move the bed 1.
  • the support points on the frame 12 on wheels can be placed anywhere, providing additional freedom in the design of the bed 1.
  • the bed 1 always rests, whatever its position, on a rigid complete frame, so that when the bed 1 is in position on wheels, the total weight is distributed over all the casters 2, providing strength and durability.
  • bed stability 1 with respect to a bed supported by four caster rods.
  • rollers 2 The maintenance of the rollers 2 is facilitated because they are left easily accessible by the hollow elements of the feet 9.
