Definitions
- the present invention relates to welded joints of a multi-strand cable made of a first metal and a support made of a second metal different from the first.
- One of the two metals is in particular copper, aluminum or one of their alloys.
- the long-term strength of the weld between the strands and the support is improved. Indeed, it prevents an electrochemical reaction between the material constituting the one or more strands and the material of the support by placing between them a material whose electrochemical potential with respect to the electrochemical potentials of the two materials is such that it can not there is no corrosion that develops or only a small corrosion develops.
- corrosion does not attack between the strands and it turns out that fight against corrosion at the interstices has the effect of ensuring that the weld is well at the contact between the strands and the support.
- the inert material has a low viscosity, for example less than 500 mPa.s, especially less than 100 mPa.s.
- the material quickly fills the gaps before curing, so that air, favorable to corrosion can not remain in these interstices.
- the inert material is tin.
- the strands are well protected by the tin brought which has spread by capillarity between the strands.
- the protection is better than in the case of a simple external seal.
- the circulation of ions in the presence of moisture is prevented.
- the weld is a weld without adding material, that is to say it is not a solder.
- the welding is ultrasonic or friction.
- the inert material is introduced in such a way that it protrudes from the weld zone.
- the cable is made of the first metal, in particular copper and the support is made of the second metal, in particular aluminum.
- This protection may be supplemented by a retractable sleeve, in particular.a plastic material, or a varnish or other insulating coating.
- the filling or tinning is carried out in the usual manner by covering the solder area with a deoxidizing stream, and then melting the tin on and in the desired parts.
- the assembly is raised rapidly in temperature for example by induction heating, electrical resistance or torch or by tinning to the wave or under a hot air flow greater than 230 ° C.
- the welded assembly shown in figure 1 comprises a multi-strand cable 1 made of copper, a soldering zone of which is welded to a welding zone of a support 3 consisting of an aluminum bar, the welding of the two zones being effected at an interface 2 .
- the figure 3 shows that the welding zones forming the interface 2 and a zone 4 of the cable close to the weld zone are coated with a layer of tin.
- Zone 4 has a length, counted in the longitudinal direction of the cable 1, greater than 0.1 mm.
- the portion of the cable 1 located above (as seen in the figures) of the interface 2 and the portion of the bar 3 located below the interface 2 are completely covered with the tin layer.
- this layer of tin covers an additional portion 4 of the cable and an additional portion of the bar. It could also be provided to cover the tin layer only the portion of the cable 1 located above the interface 2 and not the portion of the bar 3 below the interface 2. Also the layer of tin could cover only the additional part 4 of the cable and no additional part of the bar.
- the interstices 7 between the strands 6 of the cable 1 and the gaps 8 between the strands of the cable and the support are filled with a material which is inert from the point of view of corrosion with respect to the two metals of the cable and of the support 3, that is to say that the electrochemical potential of the inert material (here tin) relative to that of each of the metals is such that corrosion can not take place or is minute.
- the inert material is soldered (conventional tinning) in the case of a third metal such as tin, the liquid tin thus penetrating between the interstices then solidifying after cooling.
- a third metal such as tin
- the liquid resin which flows in the interstices is introduced at temperature and allowed to set in bulk so as to be fixed.
- the metallic inert material such as tin, has a viscosity at the solder temperature of less than or equal to 100 mPa.s.
- the anaerobic inert material has a viscosity at room temperature that is less than or equal to 500 mPa.s.
- the anaerobic resin may be LOCTITE (acrylic resin, eg monomeric mathacrylate).
- strands are in contact with the support in a straight line corresponding to the flat and flat surface of the support.
- the stand does not surround the cable. Only the strands of the lower row are in solder contact with the support. In spite of this, the attachment by welding of the two elements (cable and support) has a long life.
