Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to a machine for inserting reinforcing panels within corresponding cardboard boxes.
- Specifically, the present invention relates to a machine for displacing a reinforcing panel within a cardboard box and in contact with a wall thereof defined by two reciprocally separated portions by a weakening line so as to allow an adhesive portion of the reinforcing panel to couple with the wall itself.
- According to the present invention, there is provided a machine for inserting reinforcing panels within corresponding cardboard boxes as claimed in the appended claims.
- The present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, which show a non-limitative embodiment thereof, in which:
-
figure 1 is a diagrammatic perspective view, with parts removed for clarity, of a preferred embodiment of the machine of the present invention; -
figure 2 is a diagrammatic side view, with parts removed for clarity, of the machine infigure 1 ; -
figure 3 is a diagrammatic plan view, with parts removed for clarity, of the machine infigure 1 ; and -
figure 4 is a perspective view of a cardboard box provided with the corresponding reinforcing panel. - With reference to
figures 1 and4 ,numeral 1 indicates as a whole a machine for inserting flat reinforcingpanels 2 insidecorresponding cardboard boxes 3, each of which comprises, in use, a horizontal upper wall 4 and a horizontallower wall 5 which are parallel to each other, avertical front wall 6 and a verticalrear wall 7 which are parallel to each other and orthogonal to thewalls 4 and 5, and two vertical side walls which are parallel to each other and orthogonal to thewalls wall portions line - Furthermore, the
box 3 is provided with a reinforcingpanel 2 overlapping thewall 6 and glued to theportion 6a to assure a relatively high resistance to vertical compression to thewall 6 and thus to thebox 3. - The separation of the
portions corresponding portions portions panel 2 allow thebox 3 to be opened. - As shown in
figures 1 ,2 , and3 , themachine 1 comprises astorage 9 for astack 10 ofboxes 3 arranged in an initial flattened configuration, in which eachbox 3 is arranged according to two overlappinglayers - The
storage 9 is limited at the lower end thereof by aconveying device 13, which extends in a substantiallyhorizontal direction 14, defines a resting plane for thestack 10, and is adapted to feed theboxes 3 of thestack 10 in thedirection 14, and is further laterally limited by two reciprocallyparallel guides 15, which extend in thedirection 14, and are arranged on opposite sides of thestack 10 in ahorizontal direction 16 transversal to thedirection 14 itself. - Furthermore, the
machine 1 comprises a gripping and expandingdevice 17, which is adapted to extract in sequence theboxes 3 from thestorage 9 at aloading station 18, and comprises, in turn, alongitudinal guide 19 parallelly mounted to thedirection 16 for supporting afirst gripping assembly 20 placed in a position facing thestation 18 itself. - The
assembly 20 comprises anactuator cylinder 21 fixed to theguide 19 parallelly to thedirection 14, and a supportingplate 22, which extends on a plane orthogonal to thedirection 14, is fixed at a free end of an outlet rod of thecylinder 21, is substantially C-shaped, comprises twoarms 23 which are parallel to thedirection 16, and is provided with a plurality of suction caps 24 (in this case four suction caps 24), which are connected to a pneumatic suction device (of known type and not shown), and are aligned reciprocally in pairs in thedirection 16 and in avertical direction 25 which is orthogonal to thedirections - Furthermore, the
device 17 comprises asecond gripping assembly 26 including, in turn, aslide 27 slidingly coupled to theguide 19 to perform rectilinear displacements in thedirection 16, along theguide 19 and under the bias of an actuating device (known and not shown); anactuator cylinder 28 fixed to theslide 27 parallel to thedirection 14; and a quadrilateral supportingplate 29, which is parallel to theplate 22, is fixed at a free end of the outlet rod of thecylinder 28, has a height, measured parallelly to thedirection 25, smaller than a distance between thearms 23, which is also measured parallelly to thedirection 25, and is provided with a plurality of suction caps 30 (in this case four suction caps 30), which are connected to the aforesaid pneumatic suction device (not shown), and are aligned reciprocally in pairs in thedirections - Furthermore, the
machine 1 comprises astorage 31 for astack 32 of reinforcingpanels 2. - The
storage 31 is limited at a lower end thereof by aconveying device 33, which extends in thedirection 14, is adapted to feed thepanels 2 of thestack 32 in thedirection 14, and defines a resting plane for thestack 32 extending over thestack 10 ofboxes 3, and is further laterally limited by two reciprocally parallel guides (not shown) which extend in thedirection 14 and are arranged on opposite sides of thestack 32 in thedirection 16. -
Machine 1 is also provided with aninserting device 34 adapted to extract in sequence thepanels 2 from thestorage 31 and comprising a vertical upright 35, which extends in thedirection 25, and supports aslide 36 slidingly coupled to the upright 35 for performing rectilinear displacements in thedirection 25 itself, along the upright 35 and under the bias of an actuating device (known and not shown). - Moreover, the
device 34 comprises anactuator cylinder 37 fixed to theslide 36 parallelly to thedirection 14, and a supportingplate 38, which is parallel to theplates cylinder 37, and is provided with four suction caps (not shown) connected to the aforesaid pneumatic suction device (not shown) and reciprocally aligned in pairs in thedirections - Finally, the
device 34 comprises, in this case, agluer 39 mounted between the twostacks - In use, the
suction caps 24 of thefirst gripping assembly 20 are displaced in thedirection 14 in an advanced position to engage thelayer 12 of thebox 3 arranged in thestation 18; thelayer 11 is withheld by means of a pair of stopping elements (not shown), which are mounted at thestation 18, and are movable between a stopping position and a releasing position of thelayer 11; and thesuction caps 24 are displaced in thedirection 14 to a first retracted position to reciprocally separate the twolayers box 3, in which thebox 3 shows a parallelogram section. - The
plate 38 of theinserting device 34 is firstly displaced in thedirection 14 to an advanced position to allow the corresponding suction caps (not shown) to engage thefirst panel 2 of thestack 32 and, then, to a retracted position to extract thepanel 2 itself from thestorage 31; theslide 36 is lowered in thedirection 25 firstly to allow thegluer 39 to apply the glue onto the newly pickedpanel 2 and then to insert thepanel 2 inside thebox 3; and theactuator cylinder 37 is actuated to displace thepanel 2 in thedirection 14, substantially in contact with thelayer 12 at thefront wall 6. - At this point, the
plate 38 is displaced again to its retracted position; theslide 36 is raised in thedirection 25 outside thebox 3; thesecond gripping assembly 26 is displaced in thedirection 16 so as to insert theplate 29 between thearms 23 of theplate 22; theplate 22 is displaced in thedirection 14 to a second retracted position to disengage thebox 3 from thestorage 9 and to displace thelayer 12 of thebox 3 substantially in contact with thesuction caps 30. - Finally, the
suction caps 24 of thefirst gripping assembly 20 are deactivated; and thesecond gripping assembly 26 is displaced in thedirection 16 to anunloading station 40, at which thesecond gripping assembly 26 releases the assembly defined by thepanel 2 and by thebox 3 to astorage 41 completely similar to thestorage 9. - During the displacement from the
storage 9 to thestorage 41, thebox 3 is returned again to its initial flattened configuration by aclosing roller 42, which is mounted with itslongitudinal axis 43 parallel to thedirection 25, and protrudes inside the path of thebox 3 to engage thelayer 11 and to displace the twolayers panel 2. - According to a variant (not shown), the
gluer 39 is eliminated and thepanel 2 has at least one adhesive portion which is protected by a backing sheet, which is removed from thepanel 2 before inserting thepanel 2 inside thebox 3.
