Description

The invention relates to a connector housing of the type comprising a base plate forming a support for a printed circuit board and a closing cap.

Connector housings known are made according to the type of connector and depending on the direction of the output of the connector. Such a direction may be parallel or perpendicular to the base plate.

In particular, in buses or coaches, universal boxes are used which are connected to multiplexing buses and which serve to manage inputs / outputs. The number and arrangement of these boxes vary according to the personalization of the vehicle required by the customer, so that these boxes can be arranged at different locations in the vehicle. Depending on the configuration of these locations, these boxes must have connectors whose contacts are either parallel or perpendicular to the base plate of the housing. Such an installation of boxes "a la carte" therefore requires, for the equipment manufacturer of the vehicle, to have housings of different models depending on the type of connector and in particular the direction of the output of the desired connector for each location.

In addition, some cases are likely to be exposed to liquid projections, which requires sealed boxes and connectors and further multiplies the number of models of cases.

US5548481 is considered to be the closest state of the art.

The invention relates to a connector housing that can accommodate any type of connectors, waterproof or not sealed, whose outputs can be oriented, depending on the case, in a direction parallel to or perpendicular to the plane of the housing.

For this purpose, the invention relates to a connector housing comprising at least a first reception zone of at least one electronic circuit and at least a second reception zone of at least one connector, said first and second zones being internal to said housing, this housing being remarkable in that said first and second zones are adapted to receive a support carrying said electronic circuit and said connector and extending from one of said zones to the other, and in that said housing comprises sealing means for sealingly isolating said first internal zone of said second internal zone.

Thus, the compartment reserved for electronics is sealed and the other compartment reserved for connectors is no longer, contrary to what is the case in known cases, locked under the hood. The invention thus makes it possible, on the one hand, to produce standard covers and thus to reduce manufacturing costs and, on the other hand, to mount in the second zone connectors of all types, sealed or not, with outlets. oriented indifferently in directions that may be parallel or perpendicular to the plane of the housing.

  • Ladite zone de connectique est conformée pour recevoir des connecteurs disposés suivant l'une d'au moins deux orientations différentes ;
  • un second compartiment définissant ladite seconde zone pour accueillir au moins une seconde partie de la plaque de circuit imprimé comportant ledit connecteur ;
  • Lesdits moyens d'étanchéité comportent un premier joint d'étanchéité disposé entre la plaque de base et une face de la plaque de circuit imprimé, et un deuxième joint d'étanchéité disposé entre la face opposée de la plaque de circuit imprimé et le capot;
The connector housing according to the invention may also include the following features, taken separately or in combination:
  • Said connection zone is shaped to receive connectors arranged in one of at least two different orientations;
  • The housing comprises a base plate adapted to receive at least one printed circuit board constituting said support, and a closure cover, said base plate comprising:
  • a first compartment defining with the cover in the closed position said first zone to accommodate at least a first portion of said printed circuit board comprising said electronic circuit, and
  • a second compartment defining said second area for accommodating at least a second portion of the printed circuit board having said connector;
  • Said sealing means comprises a first seal disposed between the base plate and a face of the printed circuit board, and a second seal disposed between the opposite face of the printed circuit board and the cover;
  • The first seal is in the form of a continuous loop and conforms to the contour of said first compartment of said base plate.
  • The base plate has a protruding peripheral rim and a projecting partition separating the first zone from the second zone. Such a partition and the cover allow crushing of the first and second seals against the printed circuit board.
  • The connector housing includes a second protective cover connectors. Such a second cover advantageously has a height substantially identical to that of the first cover so as not to increase the bulk of the housing.
  • The second cover is made translucent to, in particular, make visible a light emitting diode disposed in the second zone of the housing, indicating the operating state of the electronic circuit enclosed in the first zone of the housing.
  • The second hood is made of plastic.
  • The base plate and the cover are made of metal or plastic.

The invention also relates to a connector assembly comprising a connector housing as defined above, a printed circuit board and connectors fixed on said printed circuit board.

According to the invention, the connectors of such an assembly, fixed on the printed circuit board, are partly embedded in a sealing resin.

According to an embodiment according to the invention, it is provided that such an assembly comprises a light-emitting diode in the second zone of the connector housing and a second protective cap connectors made translucent.

  • la figure 1 est une vue en perspective éclatée d'un ensemble de connectique selon un premier mode de réalisation conforme à l'invention ;
  • la figure 2 est une vue en perspective de l'ensemble illustré en figure 1 une fois ces divers constituants assemblés ;
  • la figure 3 est une vue en perspective éclatée d'un ensemble selon un second mode de réalisation conforme à l'invention ;
  • la figure 4 est une vue en perspective de l'ensemble illustré en figure 3 une fois ces divers constituants assemblés ;
The invention will be further understood in the light of the embodiments which will now be presented, with reference to the appended figures among which:
  • the figure 1 is an exploded perspective view of a set of connectors according to a first embodiment according to the invention;
  • the figure 2 is a perspective view of the set shown in figure 1 once these various constituents are assembled;
  • the figure 3 is an exploded perspective view of an assembly according to a second embodiment according to the invention;
  • the figure 4 is a perspective view of the set shown in figure 3 once these various constituents are assembled;
  • and the figure 5 is a rear perspective view of the assembly illustrated in figure 4 .

On the figures 1 and 2 , the set of connectors according to the invention comprises a connector housing composed of a base plate 1 and two covers 3 and 5.

The base plate 1 is of substantially rectangular shape. It has a protruding flange 11 delimiting its outline, except in two corners 13 (only one is shown on the figure 1 ) that the protruding rim 11 bypasses.

The corners 13 and a tab 14 have through openings 15 for fixing the housing, by screwing or other equivalent means, on a device (not shown) for supporting it.

The base plate 1 also has cylindrical studs 17 which protrude from the surface of the base plate 1 at regular intervals along the inner side of the flange 11 and which have the same height as the latter.

Cette cloison 21 traverse la plaque de part en part en joignant deux bords opposés du rebord 11.The plate 1 finally has a bulge or partition 21 in the form of a rod or rib projecting from the surface of the plate on the same side as the flange 11 and on the same height as this one. This partition 21 crosses the plate from one side to the other by joining two opposite edges of the flange 11.

The partition thus delimits a first zone 23 intended to accommodate the electronic circuits of a printed circuit board 7, this first zone being called the first zone dedicated to the electronics, and a second zone 25 intended to receive the connectors fixed to the plate. circuit board along one of its edges, this second zone being called second zone dedicated to the connectors. The printed circuit board 7 is fixed to the desired height in the housing 1 by conventional means which have not been shown for clarity of the drawing.

The base plate 1 is made of metal, by molding in one piece.

The purpose of the cover 3 is to enclose and isolate the electronic part of the printed circuit board 7 (not shown). The cover 3 thus has an edge 31 whose contour is complementary to that defined together by a portion of the flange 11 and the partition 21 of the base plate 1, which define the zone 23 dedicated to the electronics.

In a manner known to those skilled in the art, the cover 3 has ridges or fins 33 forming radiators and promoting the cooling of the circuits, and is equipped with a plug 35 of the type "pastille cortex magnet", allowing avoid condensation in the housing.

Ils consistent par exemple en des trous borgnes taraudés réalisés dans le capot 3.The cover 3 also comprises means for receiving and fixing the screws 20 passing through the base plate 1. To simplify the reading of the figure 1 such means have not been shown. They are, however, known to those skilled in the art. They consist for example of threaded blind holes made in the cover 3.

Like the base plate 1, the cover 3 is made of a single molded metal part.

The connector box shown on the figures 1 and 2 also comprises two seals 37 and 39 made of elastically deformable material and liquid-tight, of the rubber or silicone type.

The seal 37 forms a substantially rectangular loop, of profile (ie length and proportions) substantially identical to that of the edge of the cover 3 to marry the contour. The seal 37 is intended to be applied against the flange 11 and the partition 21 and has on three sides a U-shaped section so as to accommodate the end of the edge 31 of the cover 3 on three of its sides. On its fourth side, intended to be clamped between the partition 21 and the underside of the printed circuit board 7 turned towards the base plate 1, the seal 37 is plan and lower height than on the other three U-section sides.

La même remarque s'applique à l'égard de la représentation de la figure 3 On the exploded view of the figure 1 in order to clearly illustrate the U and plane sections of the gasket 37 and the complementarity of its contour with that of the cover 3, the gasket 37 has been shown as if it were located above the printed circuit board 7 However, it should be understood that in the assembled position of the housing, the gasket 37 is applied by its three U-section sides against the flange 11 and that its fourth flat-section side is interposed between the partition 21 and the circuit board 7. The same applies with respect to the representation of the figure 3

The gasket 39 is rectilinear in shape and has a length at least equal to the width of the partition 21 so as to preferentially be superimposed on each of its two ends at the gasket 37 to ensure continuity of sealing around the first zone 23. Preferably, the fourth side 36 of the cover 3 intended to come to the right of the partition 21 is indented on a length complementary to that of the seal 39 and is adapted to be received in the opening of the U. The seal 39 can thus being crushed between the flange 36 and the upper face of the printed circuit board 7 turned towards the cover 3.

The height of the gasket 39, that of the gasket 37 on its three U-section sides as well as its fourth side, and the distance between the partition 21 and the notched edge 36 of the cover 3, are chosen as a function of the thickness of the gasket. the printed circuit board 7 so as to ensure a substantially uniform tightening of the cover 3 against the seals 37 and 39 in the assembled position of the housing.

Thus, when the cover 3 is fixed on the base plate 1, a portion of the printed circuit board 7, in particular having the electronic circuits, is totally sealed between the cover 3 and the base plate 1 thanks to the presence of the seals 37 and 39. These seals 37 and 39 provide a double seal, on each side of the printed circuit board 7 at the partition 21 of the base plate 1, that is to say at the limit areas dedicated respectively to electronics and connectors.

The cover 3 and the metal base plate 1, on the one hand, and the insulation and sealing means 37, 39 constituted by the seals, on the other hand, ensure not only a protection of the electronic circuit with respect to external fluids, but also an electromagnetic isolation of the electronic circuits.

In the context of this embodiment, the pins of the connectors 41 to 45 are oriented in a direction parallel to the plane of the base plate 1.

To ensure optimum sealing, the fasteners 40 of the connectors 41, 43, 45 on the printed circuit board 7 may be embedded in a resin.

The second cover 5 is provided to further protect the connectors 41, 43, 45, in particular by preventing any accidental access to the fasteners 40 of the connectors on the printed circuit board 7.

The second cover 5 is compartmentalized to accommodate each of the three connectors 41, 43, 45. It is also open on one of its sides to allow free access to the connection pins 42.

The cover 5 has, moreover, through openings 47 at its ends for its fixing by screwing 49 in tapped holes 44 extending in studs 46 formed in the zone 25 against the peripheral rim of the base plate 1 ..

The cover 5 also has transparent light guides 51 allowing better visibility of a light emitting diode which is connected to the electronic circuit of the plate.

This diode has not been shown for the sake of clarity of the figures. Its function is to testify to the good functioning of the electronic circuit, without having to open the case to make sure of it.

In order to allow a user to view this diode, the cover 5 is made of translucent plastic material.

The Figures 3 to 5 show another embodiment of a set of connectors and a housing according to the invention. The reference numbers have been maintained to indicate the elements common to those of the embodiment of the figures 1 and 2 .

In the embodiment shown on the Figures 3 to 5 connectors 52, 53, 54; 55 and 56 are aligned along the length of the printed circuit board, and fixed in a known manner on its edge (whereas according to the embodiment of FIG. figures 1 and 2 , the connectors are fixed according to the width of the printed circuit board 7).

Par ailleurs, les connecteurs 52 à 56 présentent des sorties, c'est-à-dire des broches 42, orientées suivant des directions perpendiculaires au plan de la plaque de base 1.Moreover, the connectors 52 to 56 have outlets, that is to say pins 42, oriented in directions perpendicular to the plane of the base plate 1.

The connector housing however still has two areas, one 23 dedicated to electronics and the other 25 dedicated to the connector.

These two zones 23 and 25 are defined on the base plate on either side of a partition 21 which joins two opposite sides of the flange 11 of the base plate 1.

The zone 25 has means for evacuating any water residue that would condense at the connectors. These means include an opening 63 which is made through the plate 1.

The base plate 1 comprises, not two, but four pierced corners 57 for fixing the connector assembly on a device.

The figure 3 also shows five chemical capacitors 59 soldered to the printed circuit, which are housed in a compartment 61 of the cover 3 when the cover is fixed on the base plate 1.

As can be seen on the figures 1 and 3 such a compartment 61 may have different shapes according to the embodiment of the housing according to the invention.

In general, it is understood that the invention authorizes the realization of all kinds of connector assemblies from a single housing, and particularly the fixing of connectors of all kinds without having to modify the housing, thanks to the realization of two zones in the housing dedicated respectively to electronics and connectors.

It should be understood that in the first as in the second embodiment, the zone 25 of connectors is adapted to receive, as desired, connectors having outputs oriented parallel or perpendicular to the plane of the base plate 1, or even a combination of connectors according to these two different orientations, which gives the housing its universal character.

It should be understood, however, that the invention is not specifically limited to the embodiments shown in the figures. For example, the two zones could be defined on either side of a projecting partition on the base plate which would be made in V, thus defining an area dedicated to the connection on two adjacent edges of the housing.

Similarly, the cover 3, the cover 5 and the base plate 1 could be made of other materials than those specified in the examples described without departing from the scope of the invention. For example, the cover 3 and the base plate 1 could be made of plastic.

It is also understood from the foregoing that the housing and the assembly according to the invention make it possible to well protect the electronics of the printed circuit board. The invention thus eliminates the exclusive use of sealed connectors, much more expensive than non-waterproof connectors. It makes it possible to offer standard housings that can accommodate different electronic circuits and connectors, whose manufacturing costs are lower than those of known packages, made according to a given combination of electronic circuit and sealed connectors.
