It is an object of the invention to provide an improved cable entry available, which allows precise installation with little effort of a coaxial cable.
This object is achieved by a cable entry with the features of
The cable entry according to the invention is suitable for connecting high-frequency, resp. Coaxial cables with - seen from the inside to the outside - an electrically conductive inner conductor, a surrounding dielectric, a concentrically arranged single or multi-layer shield with at least one outer conductor and an outwardly terminating cable sheath. In general, the cable outer conductor consists of a foil-like banding, which is surrounded by a wire mesh.
An inventive cable entry usually has a housing, a nipple and a contact sleeve. The housing has a hole with a first larger diameter, which serves to accommodate the contact sleeve and is tuned to the outer diameter so that it can be easily inserted. In the front region, the bore has a second smaller diameter, which is matched to the outer diameter of the dielectric of the cable to be connected. Also, the housing preferably has a thread in the interior of the bore, with which the nipple can be screwed. The bore has in the region of the first diameter along its inner surface a first circumferential groove which serves to receive an O-ring, which cooperates in the mounted state with an outer surface of the contact sleeve. Alternatively or in addition, an O-ring can also be arranged in a groove in the outer surface of the contact sleeve, which cooperates in the assembled state with an inner surface of the bore.
The contact sleeve has a bore which is aligned in the mounted state with the bore of the housing. The diameter of the bore of the contact sleeve substantially corresponds the outer diameter of the cable to be mounted. In the interior, the bore of the contact sleeve usually also has a circumferential groove in which an O-ring is arranged. On the one hand, the O-ring acts as a seal, but at the same time prevents unintentional shifting of the contact sleeve, in particular when mounting the cable entry on the cable. In addition, at least one of the O-rings act as a brake, in which it prevents accidental rotation of the contact sleeve relative to the housing and / or the cable specifically, especially when screwing the nipple. Alternatively or in addition, further means can be provided which prevent unwanted relative rotation of the contact sleeve relative to the housing. For example, in a groove engaging grub screws or a groove / pin pairing are possible in certain embodiments.
At the front end, the contact sleeve on an annular end surface which is designed such that it cooperates in the mounted state with a shoulder of the housing in alignment. The heel is arranged in the transition region of the first to the second diameter of the housing. The end face and the heel are designed such that wires of the wire mesh of the outer conductor can be clamped therebetween by pressing the contact sleeve in the axial direction against the shoulder of the housing by means of the nipple. The clamping is done so that the wire mesh does not damage. For this reason, the transition radii are chosen so that they do not lead to shearing of the wire mesh. At the rear end, the contact sleeve on a rear end surface, which occurs during assembly with the nipple in operative connection. The end surface is configured to assist in twisting the nipple relative to the contact sleeve.
On the outer surface, the contact sleeve on a front portion which has a slightly smaller diameter than the rear portion, so that during assembly between the contact sleeve and the housing forms a gap, find in the folded wires of the braid.
Both the nipple and the housing may have connections for assembly tools, e.g. Have wrench. For cables which have as a shield a first outer conductor layer, for example as a longitudinal foil, circumferential banding, braid or combinations thereof, and a second outer conductor layer as a braid, a partial area with an enlarged diameter is provided in the region of the first smaller diameter of the bore of the housing can absorb inner outer conductor layers.
The O-rings (sealing rings) fulfill, in addition to their actual role of seal between housing, contact sleeve and cable also other functions, e.g. as positioning and holding means, which simplify the installation of the cable entry considerably. By the O-rings, the friction between the contact sleeve and the housing or between the contact sleeve and the cable sheath is specifically increased so that when screwing the nipple with the housing, the contact sleeve in the housing not unintentionally rotates to prevent shearing of the braided wires. In one embodiment, the two seals are arranged in the axial direction at approximately the same height.
The sealing ring in the interior of the contact sleeve facilitates the installation of the coaxial cable in the cable entry additionally in that the contact sleeve on the coaxial cable is no longer freely movable and thus remains exactly at the desired position. Preventing the twisting of the contact ring can also be prevented by means of an explicitly formed guide pin / guide groove between the housing and the contact sleeve. As a further measure to prevent unwanted twisting, at least one of the contact surfaces between nipple and contact sleeve may be formed, resp. be coated so that they have a low friction. The outer diameter of the contact sleeve is chosen so that the contact sleeve is guided cleanly in the housing, but still essentially force-free, apart from the frictional force of the outer seal ring, can be used.
The installation of a cable entry on a coaxial cable is usually done as follows. The coaxial cable is cut to the required length, exposed at its end of the inner conductor and the cable sheath all around at a defined distance corresponding to about 0.4 to 0.8 of the length of the contact sleeve (other values are possible depending on the embodiment), cut to the exposed inner conductor, before or after the contact sleeve is pushed. Since the bore of the contact sleeve usually has a diameter which is greater over the entire length than the outer diameter of the cable, the contact sleeve (unlike the prior art) can be pushed onto the cable before the outer conductor is exposed by the Cable sheath is removed.
Both the nipple and the contact sleeve are attached to the cable, wherein the contact sleeve is placed on the jacket of the cable, that the contact surface is substantially flush with the transition of the cable sheath on the exposed outer conductor. The sealing ring within the contact sleeve prevents displacement of the contact sleeve. Subsequently, the wire mesh of the shield is widened, so that at least the annular end face of the contact sleeve is covered with wires arranged essentially in the radial direction. If necessary, the wires can be folded further back, so that they come to rest on the outer surface of the contact sleeve. The cable is then pushed together with the contact sleeve in the housing of the cable entry, so that the wires of the braid come to rest between the annular end face and the shoulder inside the housing. Then, the nipple is bolted to the housing, so that the wires of the braid are reliably clamped between the end face and the heel. The result is both an excellent mechanical fixation of the coaxial cable and an electrically defined contact between the outer conductor and the housing. In contrast to conventional radial clamping devices, the braid is uniformly clamped on a circumferential surface, without resulting in a load on the underlying dielectric. If the coaxial cable has another shielding under the wire mesh, then this will usually be on the dielectric leave and after insertion into the housing in the designated portion of the second hole to lie. Depending on the embodiment, the contact surface is substantially flat, designed perpendicular to the cable longitudinal direction, or conically formed at an angle to this.
